I was given a couple of size 12 three quarter pants and did not expect them to be any where near me at the moment and surprised myself by not only getting them up but being able to do them up, yes slightly tight over the stomach but that does not matter the did do up and fit, haven't been in a 12 since I was about 21 and I am now 52 so that is a great feeling.

Hi Wendy,

Lovely feeling eh? You're not far short of fitting them properly....

But wait - don't wait more than a week to start WEARING them as they'll be falling off you shortly after that.

You might get a month out of them, or 2 at a stretch (or at a shrink - maybe pop 'em in the dryer )..... but after that, all bets are OFF - how nice.

Rock on, Wendy, and keep that smile on your face,
Koh

Hi Koh

Yes definately a lovely feeling, will have to keep trying them on to see how the fit is going, the shrinking idea might be a good one lol.

Definately will be hard wiping this smile off my face for a while.

Hi Wendy, You must be well into your size 12's now maybe even in size 10's !!
I have re discovered "baby safety pins" it is not unusual for me to have up to 3 pins around my waist area of any of my trousers at any given time, this way im finding I get even more wear out of them.

Go back to the start of this really good thread to get a new perspective on "to buy, or not to buy, new clothes as your body shrinks".....

I don't have the funds to be able to buy many new things along the way. I really want to buy new clothes so going to give the op shops a go. Then once I hit my ideal weigh I have a bit more money to play with.

It is always nice to have one fab out fit for each stage of the weight loss journey, Op shops and hand me downs are a great way to have them at a low price. When you keep wearing saggo baggo clothes your mind doesn't catch up as quickly to your new real size. Also since tunic style clothing is in if you by a stretchy belt and cinch it around an older bigger tee shirt you can show off your new found waist and not have to spend buckets of cash.

i have loved going to the Op shops and recycle boutiques. Have really enjoyed selling all my clothes to the recycle boutiques too. But the problem is; when do you stop buying new clothes? I just get off on trying them on and finding they fit - what an absolute buzz but I am very worried about my bank account.

This is a great thread.
I think we should all pop a few dollars in a piggybank for all the fattening food we aren't eating. We save on takeaway milky coffees....no more chocolate bars or fish& chip nights....so put that money aside for small shopping splurges! I had a serious coffee addiction....several takeaways a day, or cake & coffee over a " meeting"at work....... I bought myself a nespresso machine & now have decaf black at home & fill a travel mug! I've paid it off already in 4 weeks of use!

So having just started I have been through my storage and pulled out some clothes from on the way up... for on the way down. I can't wait to start wearing them again.

I am also going to visit places like the Red Cross shop - which is done so nicely - to pick up some on the way past clothes - so not spending heaps but definitely having something new to wear. Its also good to support a charity.

Can't wait!

Thanks for that Pandora.

I guess you have to wear clothes that are the NEW you not the clothes that make you feel like the OLD you. I will definitely keep that in mind!

It's a bit like meeting up with an old friend isn't it JoG?

I have clothes from the way down my first time on Cohens. They're in my wardrobe packed neatly and separated into sizes! I will probably throw out a lot as I get to them and buy new outfits but it will be more like a milestone with each size box I get to.

Actually Michelle, you probably will, I'd kept many many favourites over the years to wear when I got back to my 'normal' self, but when I got there (first time round that is), not only were most of them too big, but, as it turns out, I felt they represented someone who I simply wasn't anymore.

I was so disappointed to find that the reality of how i felt about them didn't match the picture I'd held on to for all those years. They just didn't do it for me anymore.

I moved onto bigger and better things of course, but it's something I'll never forget.

Talking Re: BUY NEW CLOTHES NOW !

I've just gone from a size 22-24 in a big 'wow' moment, down to a comfortable 16. I was in 'The Carpenters Daughter' shop having a look, hovering around size 18 at that time (3 weeks ago), and the assistant was super nice and after I explained that I was just browsing and couldn't really buy any of their gorgeous clothes due to shrinking so much at the moment, she not only said that she totally understood but IF she was to interest me in one item only, it would be the wide curved belt that they sell - I screwed up my nose and said 'I don't like wearing belts' and she didn't push it (that is how nice she was!!!), but after a few moments more of looking round and chatting to her and realising she was quite genuinely being friendly and not pushy, I asked about the belt and could I please try one on - I was wearing a lovely (but now baggy!) tulle vest with a wee cardy over the top and when the belt went on it sat on my hips, really nicely due to the curved leather, and instantly made the top look like it fitted AND took me down at least another size visually - I couldn't believe it when looking in the floor-to-ceiling mirror that that person was ME - and I was also assured the mirrors were 100% normal household ones and not 'doctored' to make the shopper look skinnier (like some shops do). I was so amazed at this belt that at $NZ185 I stopped cringing and handed over my eftpos card - I have had it for 3 weeks, wear it every day, and any tops I have that I would normally throw onto ebay and sell I am now getting lot more wear out of - I haven't bought any 'pre-loved' clothes since - hubby was a bit in awe (shocked) at the price but has already noticed how much I wear it and how much more styley I look, as well as getting more mileage out of my wardrobe. I am a rectangle/brick shape so this style of dressing really suits my figure (am I allowed to use that word now, I have never had a 'figure' before!). I now also think nothing of wearing a dress and putting a wide elastic belted belt on the empire line to create a better flow for the dress, with a nice long tulle cardy over the top (or a short one - I do love tulle!!!) it look super-smart and makes me look smaller than I probably realistically am

And belts, plus dresses, are now my friends!

A belt that gives you a figure! That's got to be worth the money.

I'm off to Google the shop you mentioned to see if we have one here or if they have a catalogue online. I wonder if the shop assistant who helped you realizes what a fantastic morale boost she has given you with her small suggestion.

Could you post a picture of the belt, or you in the belt, so I can see what it looks like?

You have inspired me to update my wardrobe!!

Shopping for clothes is a new journey for me before i would wonder through the clothes departments and dreaming about wearing the beautiful clothes in smaller sizes but always returning to the coner in the shop with not that much choice in sizes 18 and up(where i was)......at this stage i can buy something from the side with all the choices size 18 and down(where i am now).......and i do not know what to do with all the choices and sometimes i will find myself in my old shopping corner in the shop looking at that clothes and i would ask myself what are you doing here .....nothing fit you here and we are never going to shop here again..................
I was very fortunate to have the lady that inspired me to start cohens she hand me her clothes as it got to big for her.......and i and good up to size 16(this is me know) so now i'm shopping for somthing in size 14 to motivate me to keep going i dont think i was ever in a size 14 i skipped that so i have no size 14's in my skinny cupboard that i was holding on for years.......i was a size 10/12 before i got pregnant 16 years ago and after that baby the 30kg stayed behind the smallest size i went down too was a size 16..........so size 14 is up for grabs for now and that will be amasing to fit into that so enjoying shopping even though i stick to a jeans i do look for some fashionable to where with it ......... With fashion i am a infant and is only learning to crawl.....but i love the journey
