Default Diary rules - discussion thread

THIS is the only place on the forum where the new diary rules will be able to be discussed. Information on these rules, and why we've made this decision, can be found . The actual rules can be found .

Please remember to keep your discussion to the point, and of a mature and thoughtful nature.

If you are going to disagree with someone, remember to keep your disagreement based on the topic, and do not get personal.

Thanks,

asy.

One further thing. And this is definately NOT what I wanted to do, but I find I'm forced to...

If anyone posts threats either to myself, the administrators, the forum or Cohens clinics on this forum their diary will be immediately moved, and they will be banned.

I'm sorry, but I've had an interesting morning. Lots of support for the new moves, but one dissenter.

I have, unfortunately, had to ban this person after receiving threatening emails from her.

I don't appreciate being threatened, and I will not put up with it.

By ALL means, disagree with me. Disagree with what we're doing. No problems there. But do it nicely. Please.

asy.

Wow Asy Im sorry to hear that you've experienced that this morning!!

I personally dont agree with the new rules (even though I understand the intention behind them) - I also know that this is your forum!!

What I wonder is how you can track the plan number? surely you dont have access to the actual plan numbers and thus how will you ever know that people didnt just key in a bunch of random numbers?

I too can understand your position and reasoning, I just find it very unfortunate and maybe somewhat unfair for someone whom I won't name out of respect, who has made the enormous effort to turn their life around, giving full disclosure of what she was doing and with her doctor's consent and approval, so that she could get to the stage of being accepted by Dr Cohen on the programme. She also totally discharged any and all liability to the good doctor.

It seems too, that her diary has been removed effective immediately without the 2 months notice that was stated would be given to wind the diary down.

It must have been a tough decision for you all Asy, and I'm sure you considered all the available options to you. It is unfortunate it had to come to this.

I was reading the post this morning with a little apprehension, but glad to see it's a very reasonable request. I thought maybe you were cracking down on 're-starters'.

There are plenty of other diet forums that Non-Cohen's people can use and give and get advice on. If I'm constipated I don't want to be told to add more beans to my diet, cos that's not allowed, or I should do some exercise if I've hit a plateau, cos that's not allowed.

And now to read that threats have been aimed at Asy and Cohen's is despicable. Build a bridge, get over it and suck it up is what I say to the dissenters.

Go Asy!!

Her diary was removed, not because she didn't have an authentic programme, and not because she disagreed with me, she's welcome to do that. It was moved because she made threats to certain members. Her comments were just awful, not just against me, which I'm big enough to take, but EXTREMELY hurtful to some members who simply don't deserve it.

I was at work, and didn't have time to 'clean it up', so I moved it out of sight until I would have time to muck around and remove the threats.

Unfortunately in the meantime I received vitriolic and threatening emails from her, not about moving her diary, but about other things I don't feel it's right to go into, including making threats against other members, and against Cohens clinics. THAT is what caused me to remove her access before she could do any more damage.

She could have quite happily had the 2 months to wind the diary down, even then she could have stayed on the forum, albeit without a diary, for as long as she liked, but alas... She took a different path...

I really feel sorry for her, I can see by her emails that she's not a well person, but I simply could not allow the threats to be made on the forum, and I had no way of knowing what threats etc she was making behind the scenes in PM's etc. There was really no alternate course of action unfortunately.

It has been a VERY difficult decision to make these changes, and took a LOT of discussion, but it was really felt that this is the best course of action in the long term.

Babytime,

Thank you SO much for your post, it, and the other votes of confidence I've had, have made my day better. Thank you.

You know your post made me smile.

You wouldn't know this, but that's almost exactly why I started this forum. I was a member of another forum, where there was a little group of cohenites, and we kept having people coming in and telling us "you won't lose weight that way, you need to eat potatoes" and such.

IT got so frustrating that I finally said "stuff this, I'm going to start my own, where ONLY people on Cohens will come and discuss the programme. We won't have people telling us to eat potatoes!"

And thus we began.

Your post was prophetic and poetic.

Thanks again,

asy.

Asy,

I understand your decision and as you explained the situation, I understand why you removed the diary immediately. I was not aware of all of this and your post fully explains the circumstances. I would have done the same thing in your position!

You have provided us with a great tool with this forum and I fully understand your decision to restrict the membership to those on plan. It is for people's own good in the end.

Thanks for the update! I plan to hang around this forum and give back some of the love I've received that got me through to the end!

Hi Asy, glad its all sorted. Just letting you know after a day of thought about it I realised being a mature woman.. (Cough cough) Seriously that theres always two sides of a story and at the end of the day we need to do whats right for not just yourself but for all on this forum.

This forum has been a valuable tool for myself and so many others and with so many people now on board there as to be guidelines.

I for one am 100% behind Dr C and what the programmes tools have done to change my life for the better.

Thankyou for starting this thread so we were not left in the dark...

Finding the right programme for many can take years and years and like myself after years and years of excuses (and all the experience myself in this industry to be honest) have found that excuses and blame have to stop to win at this war.
Cohens and this forum with so many valuable members are my tools and I totally agree with all the other posts on this thread.
Thanks for starting a great place for us likeminded people to have somewhere to go where we are understood.
Maria

That's Ok Mel,

You only need a number to have a diary, and Koh loves posting in others diaries but I doubt he will keep his own... so he will stick around.

THANK YOU so much for that, Mel. I do feel "part of this place" - and am happy to stick around. Re the diary, well, it is oft-neglected by me but of course, I am always happy to receive visitors. As you know, this recent rule is only to do with diaries, and doesn't prevent people from "hanging around" - so, bank on the fact that I'll be hanging around.

Whether I manage to keep a diary or not is of little importance to me really. It took me almost a year to start one (and then, it was only so that people knew who/what "Koh" is....) So, if I lose it, it doesn't bother me at all, as I'll still be here, and adding thoughts where it seems right.

But, again, thank you so much for your thoughts. I'm chuffed

Hugs,

Koh

hi Asy
i was a bit concerned when i read the new rules, however reading the above posts I understand where you are coming from. I agree that we don't want advice that is counter to cohens. I was sorry to read the story above and the outcome as the diary writer referred to seemed genuine, however we only get some of the picture.

I would like to know more about the rule that we are not to discuss what we are doing to lose weight. Does this mean you don't want people to discuss what they are eating on a daily basis as I know a lot of people discuss their meals??
cheers
Polly

Unhappy 2 more cents worth

Wow, this has really stirred up quite a hornet's nest and is making me incredibly uncomfortable.

I may be a restarter, and in some people's eyes that means that the program has failed me. What a load of rot, if anything it is I that has failed Dr Cohen. He may get his money from me regardless of whether I complete and maintain goal for the rest of my life or not, but this is a tool that has no equal and the reason I have not abandoned it and kept coming back.

Coming back to a place where I thought we could all just get along.

There is no denying that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and of course we are all happy when the forum members lose 4kg or 40kg, but just don't skin your cat here unless it's a Cohen's approved skinning. (terrible analogy, sorry about that)

What we really want is a place to be free to discuss Cohen's without having other diet methods shoved in our face. Some people have had to save their pennies to be able to afford a program in the first place and second-guessing themselves is the last thing they need. It's like posting your favourite recipe for Pork Casserole on a Kosher recipe site. Very bad taste.

Even though I never knew or communicated with Kath and Nickhy I don't want to come on here and find that I don't actually need to pay all that money, I could have just as easily lost weight by following Pre-Cohen's. And where did Pre-Cohen's come from?? The people that had eating plans that were nice enough to post what foods to cut out, what foods to start eating and what rules to start following for optimal weight loss.

I'm now going to avoid reading the posts and diaries that address this issue, as scintilating as they are.

Over and out

Hi Polly,

I'm sorry if that sentence was ambiguous, and I agree it could have made more sense...

That was only meant for people without authentic programmes.

For example, if someone does not have an authentic Cohens programme and they want to maintain their diary for the allowed month or two (depending on their status), we did not want them discussing what they are doing. IE: Giving information or advice on other means of weight loss other than Cohens.

There are many, many other forums out in internetland which cater for non-cohens weight loss programmes, and whilst I may think this is the BEST way to lose weight, I agree, some people may not think it's for them, or they may not be able to do the programme for whatever reason. They are welcome to keep a diary and discuss how they lose their weight... Just not on here.

I hope that makes more sense now...

Oh, yeah, you CAN discuss WHAT you are eating, (just not quantities as that's a violation of Cohens copyright). So recipes etc are definately IN

And, MelB, thanks for your concern!

Koh WILL keep his diary. He is not discussing weight loss in there, he's never said that he's keeping his diary as a weight loss method, actually, I'd be HORRIFIED if he did want to lose weight, he's actually really scrawny... It'll be entirely up to him whether he keeps it in the Diaries section, or moves it to the general section, but I'm quite happy for that to be the one exception to the rule.

asy.
