Articles for Thought
The Moral of the Story is Care There is a book about a little boy who says, "I don't care" to everything, by Maurice Sendak. When a lion shows up threatening to eat Pierre and he retorts with his usual, "I don't care", the lion eats him. The moral of the story is, care. So often we hear people who struggle with their weight say, "I saw the piece of cake and a voice inside me said, "I don't care, I am going to eat it." Or [they tell us,] "I sat there with the Girl Scout Cookies and heard myself say, I don't care, I'll eat the whole box. After all Girl Scout Cookie season only comes around once a year." Or when getting ready for the gym, that same voice will say, "I don't care if I ever wear a bathing suit again." We are here to tell you not to believe that voice. The truth is that you do care. You care very much. That's why you've tried diet after diet and that's why you looked for and found our website, book, or online program. Human beings feign disinterest when something feels too hard. If you have a child you've probably heard them say, "I don't care if I never ride a bike." "I don't care if those kids invite me to their party." They care very much, but they're afraid of failing, and so are you. It's not that you don't care, it's that you feel defeated or afraid to set yourself up to fail. And why shouldn't you? Diets set you up to fail because they don't offer you the information you need to lose the weight you want. You don't need someone to tell you that a box full of caramel coated cookies isn't good for you. You already know all that. What you need is to find your hope for real and lasting change. The kind of change you're looking for in your body begins in your mind. It begins with a conviction to care. Care for your health. Care for your self-esteem. Care for your future. When you care, you can stay true to yourself in the moment and make better choices. http://www.shrinkyourself.com/articl..._2_9_11&bhcp=1 |

Re: Articles for Thought
haha- would caring have prevented the little boy from being eaten or just made the realisation of being eaten harder to take
opinion- you dont have to care just to think rationally about the situation and act appropriately, this takes the emotional response out of play and thus icreases the liklihood of a successful course of action

Re: Articles for Thought
This is a GREAT site! Thanks DI! I'm totally an emotional eater (as I've proven to myself over and over) but this is really useful!
And yeah you probably don't have to care to think rationally, but lets face it, I'm a woman with raging hormones (at times). If I don't care then I don't...well...care about thinking rationally. I have to care otherwise all sense goes out the window. If that makes sense. I think caring is a good thing Shows a bit of self love |
