How long have you maintained your weight?
Reading other people's experiences has made me feel normal and encouraged. I would like to hear of some success stories of people who have maintained their weight for more than a year or so. Is there anyone out there....? The extra encouragement would be great especially when I'm bored and feeling this will always be difficult so why bother with the long term..... Thanks for listening. |

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
Hi Kym
I started cohens a year ago and have now maintained for 5 months My friend who recommended cohens to me has maintained for 2 years - I refused to believe it was different until I realized she had maintained for a year so it was not too good to be true! In the past 5 months post "diet" I'd now be heavier tha When I started.... |

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I maintained for over two years but since Aug - to now I've gained around 3kg but it was due to just plain laziness and vacation, reunions & Mid-autumn festivals & Thanksgiving & Xmas coming up! But at the moment I'm actually only 3 kg above the top of my recommended range so I'm really not that bad. I'm debating a tune up in January which will be the 3 years from the start of my original programme in January of 2008. That might just be 8-10 days on the programme - just enough that I don't need to redo maintenance. Although, if I must, I will.
Most here have had to go back onto the programme at some point or another because they didn't learn the lessons well enough or thought that they really didn't need to change their lifestyles as the whole programme is about.

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I think it would be fairer to say "some" rather than most. But agree that most who have gone back on plan, you are correct about the reason....?

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I'm guessing "some" on here, but "many" who have difted away from the forum, some of who do return. There is a lesson here in keeping some touch with the forum when you reach maintenance, even if just to support others. I have always felt more posts from those in maintenance would have reinforced the fact that the diet is only the beginning and unless we make life changes (food selection being a major change) the weight will go back on.
I have been in maintenance for just under 5mths and am able to keep my weight under control (often though only just, and I know I push the bounderies, which is frustrating and makes it harder on and for myself - STOOPID.) LB x

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
methinks my words got turned around somehow when I was typing that. Most here who have come back on the programme..... was what it was meant to be. Thanks for picking up on that. (was starting to nod off and didn't proofread very carefully)

It's a bit hard to KNOW really - I have watched MANY who walked their paths, never looked like faltering, reached their goals, said "Goodbye" and we don't know how they are travelling now. Probably doing fine !! Hard to know for sure - all we do know is that some special people hang around to help others, while others call it "Done deal" and move away. Both are right (for them) - but only one group can be "observed" on here. A big thanks to those who do choose to stick around to help others following ... Koh

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
The ladies (consultants) at my clinic (4 of them) have never been a part of the forum. One has maintained for 3 or more years, another 2 have maintained for at least 18mths. The other for 6mths. No doubt they are constant encouragement for each other.

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I am deeeelighted to say I have maintained now for 5 months coming Monday.
In all my tryyyiiinnng to shed kgs before I only ever would get down a MAX of 4kg and give up. This time - THREE CHEERS for Dr Cohen and especially my own cheer squad here on the forum. I believe that the forum support is the catalyst for many successes, certainly made the difference for me! Narelle

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I haven't maintained my weight perfectly but I did refuse to buy clothes in a bigger size, well I bought one pair of shorts which were 2 dollars and I really needed some shorts and the only size they had was a size 10 and I bought a pair of junior size 9 jeans.
I like to wear a 38 european size in pants, a 31 in jeans, and an american size 8. It is almost 2 years down the road and I am now 2.5k above my start of refeed weight. The journey has had its ups and downs and sometimes those clothes were really tight. Last edited by carrieanne_c; 18-07-2011 at 01:28. |

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
I completed the Cohen's in December 2007 after 7 months on the programme . I lost around 30 kg. I am now about 2.5 kg over my finish weight and have maintained (pretty much within 5 kgs) since. It's a work in progress.....finishing the programme gripped me with fear ..I was so frightened of food. You just have to keep up a constant dialogue with yourself and realise that you have the power over the food not the opposite. I gain weight with Carbs...every time I over do the Carbs my weight goes up.
When I feel it creeping on again I revert to my programme for a week or so and it works.... |

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
Hi Catiecate,
This is exactly what I'm afraid of. I've not even done refeed yet but freakin' out about the future. I didn't do too well when I was travelling the past two weeks and put on around 3 kg (while on the plan!). I think I'm frightened of food as well - I hope I can be like you and have the power. Being within 5 kg sounds marvelous to me. My question is, is it safe to keep reverting back to the plan? |

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
It's safer to accept that you can never go back to the same type of eating. It's the same if you were a full-fledged diabetic. You know that if you eat this it's gonna kill you. Well you have to eat that way forever, just like a diabetic has to. It's part & parcel of being a person afflicted with the inner fat person syndrome that is alway going to be trying to find a way to escape. Like being an born again former Alcoholic who's on the wagon. You have to accept it for what it is. I finished the diet in June 2008 and stayed within 3kg for the next 2 years. In August last year I decided to find out if I had actually hit the bottom when I finished the programme two years earlier (I was having no problems maintaining). So, I gradually started eating more and wider varieties of foods and started gaining some weight so that over a period of around 7 months I managed to gain a total of 10 kg over my finish weight or 7 kg over the top end of my range. I went back on my programme full tilt, with the whole refeed programme as well. This time though, I went, not to the bottom of my range, but when hunger finally hit. That ended up being 65.5kg and the 69 which was the bottom of Dr. C's range. I finished my programme the same day in June this time as I did on the original programme in 2008. I've leveled off at 67.5 kg and like before, having no problems with maintaining as I know I cannot do what I used to do. Oh, like another here, I'm not a youngster either and will be celebrating my 64th in a couple of weeks.

Re: How long have you maintained your weight?
tips to burn fat....
Running is the best exercises because it helps you burn the calories. Just in 30 minutes a person can easily burn 300 calories. Walking, Sprinting and adding hills or an incline can burn 180 calories in 30 minutes. Bicycling and Swimming of 30 minutes can burn 400 to 500 calories.
