WATER
I was always advised by my original clinic that I HAD to drink at least 1 liter of water per 25 kg of body weight that I was carrying at the time - plus to take into account environmental factors - that is - hot days whether you work in the sun all day or in a office and things like that. I am concerned and have wondered about how much - as it is or could effect your weight loss so very easily if you are not drinking enough or if you are drinking to much - so please ask your clinics and add your results here and comments here ! It seems to be something that often comes up on the forum at some stage every few weeks. Andy

I was just wondering, as you rightly said, because it surfaces every couple of weeks. I have heard the stories of different clinics advising different things based on possibly their interpretations of things, but I've only ever seen the 2 to 3 litres per day thing "actually written in the program" under the "Golden Rules" of the program.
I have read elsewhere, that to much water can be just as dangerous as too little but for different reasons. Mineral Salt depletion from the body can cause problems as well in hot weather as well. This leads to the need to replenish the mineral salt content of the body. Sodium Chloride doesn't do it, so one would need to up their vitamin/mineral salt consumption or use various Sea Salts (as was discussed before as well). I personally followed the guidelines of 2 to 3 litres per day (averaging around 2.5 litre/day). I lost an average of 1.1kg/week throughout the program which was slightly above what my program was designed to do at my age according to Dr. C. Obviously working outside in hot weather will necessitate more consumption of water but with the replenishment of mineral salts as well. I think, like exercise, strenuous outdoor activity should be kept to a minimum during the diet (in you case - a one off - not possible due to the nature of your job). Just like exercise, running after the baddies is a form of exercise and as you lost weight, you ability to run after those baddies increased therefore increasing you exercise rate and perspiration/water loss rate. And as we know, exercise is actually against the doctrine of Dr. C. while on the program. Kinda like the vicious circle. I would be interesting to see Dr. C's take on the water issue as it would seem that what "some" of the clinics say don't necessarily agree with what the rest say. Back to the interpretational quandary thing I guess. In the meantime I believe the best advice would be to drink "at least" 2 litres of water a day as per the "Program Golden Rules" and no more than 1 litre/25kg current body weight. Otherwise there could be collateral problems like the body salt depletion issues. There is no way I could have consumed 1 litre / 25kg (which would have been 4 litres/day - I wouldn't have been able to eat the food that was on the program for lack of room in a completely distended stomach). I would have had to work from the toilet! Faithy, any way you can get a question to Dr. C on this issue?

I have just read the great skin diet by Karen Fischer
she recommends you have example weight 75kgx0.033=2.47ltr having more than your body is not good for you or your skin every day the Cohen's lifestyle is so much like her book we are all doing our skin great. But she does recommends we all take a good pro biotic & drink liquid chlorophyll in your water you can get it from any health food shop or Coles sells it it in a white bottle and the brand is grants & dandelion tea is great She doesn't like dairy except for plain youghurt bread she says to eat a good grain bread like Helga's for digestion |

My clinic also told me 1 litre per 25 kgs of body weight. It seems most if not all the Australian clinics have this info. I was also told that the maximum per day is five litres.
My water experiences: I started drinking four litres a day. One of my early blood tests showed that my sodium and chloride had both dropped below the minimum so my consultant suggested I add some Celtic salt, which has solved that. The other readings were all okay. When I reached around 87 kgs (3 1/2 litres a day) I started having dizzy spells. My consultant suggested that I reduce my water by 1/2 a litre a day. The dizzy spells stopped. I've had them again at around 75 kgs (I was still drinking 3 litres a day, waiting for my weight to catch up), again reduced by half a litre a day and they stopped, then again just recently, and have reduced water once more. It seems that my maximum is a bit less than the 1 litre per 25 kgs. At the moment I'm not being quite so careful with exact quantity, but drinking at least two litres a day and sometimes a little more than 2 1/2 litres. AJ

Started 11/1/08. Lowest weight reached 63.8 kgs on 10/11/08 and 40 kgs down. Thank you Dr Cohen.
Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time. My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight. Phew. I was worrying cos I only ever manage 2-2.5 L per day. Which is what I had read initially in my program, and already a struggle for me to manage. Was thinking how the hell i was going to manage to up this to 1L per 25kg!!! arrg.
Also thanks SMS for the health info. Its good to have it in one place/one summary post. My mum has very high cholesterol, so its on my mind to get this checked - even tho at the end of 2006 when i had my last full medical (and living a very unhealthy lifestyle) both that and the bp were fine... it was the waist measurement and BMI that were the problem but dealing with that now... so hopefully the current program will have even more benefit on the bp and cholesterol. |

How Much Water Do I Drink per Day
On the Program Clients must drink 2L/water
and it is important to take into account the other instruction Except in special circumstances like physical activity or hot days when water intake should be increased. Though uncommon, it is possible to drink too much water. When your kidneys are unable to excrete the excess water, the electrolyte (mineral) content of the blood is diluted, resulting in a condition called hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood). Endurance athletes — such as marathon runners — who drink large amounts of water are at higher risk of hyponatremia.

i was told my my consultant that i should have between 2-3 litres of water per day.
if i had to drink the 1ltr/per 2kgs, i would have to drink 7 litres per day. i cant currently only drink 2 1/2 and no way am i gonna try 7, thats too much water. i think any more than 3 litres is too much |
