Am I ready to start Refeed?
I have read all the threads here and they all say different things about when to start feed and it seems to be different for everyone. If you have been following my diary you will know the basics but I will outline it all here again. 1. This is my first time on Cohens and I don't want to come back here. My Cohens Goal is 54-57kg. 2. I lost about 25kg in 17 weeks with no deviations prior to my 40th Birthday Party followed by my NZ ski holiday. I went off plan during this time but was able to lose the gained weight plus some within the week I returned and went back on EP. 3. I then went on to lose another 3kg or so on EP 100% within a couple of weeks. 4. At 59.1, I was having cravings and cry hungry. I wnt for my blood tests on the Sat morning and then went on to deviate for the Sat night dinner and Sunday night dinner. 5. I went back on EP 100% on the following Monday and it has now been 2 weeks that I have been back on my EP 100%, no deviations, and have failed to get back to the 59.1kg (let alone lose anymore weight). I have been gaining and losing over the two weeks ranging from 59.2kg to 59.7kg. Very frustrating!!! 6. I have my Refeed Program now, ready and waiting. I am hungry, in fact I am craving all sorts of food. I am also having the occasional dizzy spell. 7. The weight is just not shifting on EP BUT I really want to get to 57kg before staring Refeed as I am not happy with my current body and would like to lose that little bit more so I can settle at around 55-56kg when I finish. 8. I have spoken with my consultant and she just keeps saying it is water weight on the scales and I shouldn't put too much stock in it. So my question is: SHOULD I START REFEED NOW? VOTE YES OR NO BELOW HOW CAN I LOSE THE EXTRA WEIGHT IF EP IS NOT WORKING? Thanks for your help!

Re: Am I ready to start Refeed?
Hi AZ
I have been following you for a little while now and completely sympathise with your frustration over this most agonising plateau in your weight loss. If you stick to the plan you will lose more weight. The plan averages out at between 800-900 calories a day, which by any measure is not enough to sustain your body (or anyone else's) at its current weight over the long term. Whether your plateau is due to water weight, hormones or any number of bodily variables it is impossible to say - but if you sit tight you will eventually lose the weight you want. All that being said, you are becoming very dispirited and possibly unwell as you are now experiencing dizzy spells. Your emotional and physical health is of paramount importance, and so for that reason I vote that you commence your refeed tomorrow morning. I have a feeling tomorrow will bring a significant weight loss, and cheer you on your way. And if it doesn't, I urge you to go to refeed anyway. You are a true Cohen's success story and should be proud of yourself dear girl. Be happy and proud, you are now slim again and can stay that way forever. There will be a build up of glycogen during refeed and you will feel better almost immediately. You have "hit the wall" just like a marathon runner, and are suffering because of it. Just to say it again: I vote REFEED. With admiration and concern, Am |

Thanks Amourage! Your words are wise and comforting as well. I have bought some pineapple and blueberries and think I might start tomorrow.

Hi AZ, that link will take you to Asy's thoughts on when to start refeed, but always listen to what your clinic is telling you too. I started at my goal, lost about 2kg on refeed, but did not stabilise, went back on plan and lost another 5kg so Asy's comments are pertinent to me. However, I do think too that sometimes we've "just had enough" too and that a break and then going back on plan can work (which is what I unintentionally did) Asy's thoughts on when you're ready are not having any extra fat padding, being really hungry (although some people say they don't) and being at goal. I realise this only adds to your confusion, so I say again, listen to your clinic. |
