Default New Members, give yourself a boost !!

Tonight, I just felt the need to post this Maybe I should've posted earlier..... I just witnessed - perhaps - the loss of another new chum..

I've noticed some "fold" by hanging out for their "4 week weigh-in". I know, it's part of the instructions - and, for those that can hold out, I'm sure it's all been good.

How about those that DON'T make it (because they were missing the "boost"). Let me explain it this way :-

Anything new is exciting, but it can also be scarey !! So, if that scareyness can be diminished, isn't that good?

For mine, I believe that any NEW journey needs EARLY affirmation of it's success. If only to ADD to the resolve of those taking their first tentative steps....

So, for you newer people, I reckon you should jump those scales early on - here's why :-

1. Seeing REAL results (good ones) can BOOST your resolve so much !!

2. It confirms that you are doing things RIGHT !! And, if not, you get to resolve the problem without losing a MONTH before you find out that you are doing something wrong !!

I ache for those who might've given up too early by "trying to stick to the rules" - harrumph, rules are meant to be broken, especially if they restrict YOU on your journey !! Break the SCALES rule rather than the food rules though - it might be ALL you need to hang in there.

The monthly weigh-in is desired IF you are the kind of person who needs to see losses DAILY to remain "up". Daily and even weekly losses are not guaranteed - over a month, though, things remain surprisingly stable.

Despite all that, an early affirmation that "This is working" can help new chums to hold fast against their own minds (and sometimes the rantings of others who are not overly supportive).

So, new people, jump those scales early on (5 to 10 days in) - and give yourselves a boost to your resolve

LOL Koh,
I like this and agree that you need that confirmation all is working for you to help keep you focused. But this might not be everyones thing and some can wait for 4 weeks, I actually go to the clinic and weigh in fortnightly but I do weigh myself daily. I do not get stressed if the scales don't show a loss but reaffirms for me that I am on the journey as I have not gained.

Aaah I wish I could resist the lure of the scales but alas cannot. It has been 2 weeks since any weight loss, I have 2 weeks till my 6 month contract expires and I have 2 kilos to lose till I can start refeeding. It is maddening! 2 weeks ago I was confident I would be ordering refeeding this week but now, of course, that has turned out not to be true.

I started out the week being very zen about it... certain the scales would move. But ever day it doesn't move I get a little more disheartened.

Hey M, nice to see you over here......

Will be an interesting race to see who gets there first........you're sooooo close.

You know, you've been pretty patient for 2 weeks now, surely you're in for a big drop pretty soon, although I must admit my first time round, the last couple of kilos became a bit more resistant to move.......either way though, you will get there.....I wholeheartedly understand your frustration!!!!

Will see you round here hey.......lots I wonderful and supportive people in this place........

Welcome to the forum......

Good to see you here too Collie. Yes, I must recharge my patience. The plan was to banish the scales but I couldn't resist, and was up 200g this morning. Argh!!!

Patience... patience....

Hope you're progressing well and good to see you across 2 forums and posts!

100% agree on this - early motivation comes from the scales and seeing the weight race down, I fully believe that the longer you stay DF free the better for the psych of it all.

To explain - early on I was weighing daily - every morning without fail I’ll carry my cold glass scales into the even colder bathroom and get my motivation for the day - validation of why I’m doing this and confirmation that it’s working.

After the second month I would weigh weekly because I had revved up my motivation from the previous month and that was carrying me through - by week 10 I was weighing monthly cause I knew it was working and so no longer needed daily confirmation that it was working I KNEW it was. Now into week 19 I only weigh when I officially have to, or I’m getting close to one of the mini goals I set myself and then carry on my merry way.

By now - I should and 100% do trust in this program and that it’s woeking and that I’m healthier and totally schooled up on what I should be eating, when, how much water is enough for the day and sleep is a god send!! The clothes that I use to avoid are, at the very least actually fitting, I’ve skipped sizes by not regularly checking and that is a win but a loss - as in I lost the opportunity to wear this when t fit but on the other hand I can wear something smaller (almost) lol.

So it does work as testament to the hundreds before me, and it WILL work even if the evil scales go up a bit, they will inevitably go down a lot
