Hi SMS,

It's probably WAY bigger than you or me !!

Quote:
I understand where you are coming from, but I think that the problem is a little bit bigger than just beef isn't it.
Yeah, that problem has been around for decades - but exporting cars vs importing just DOESN'T have the same sort of risk that happens when we consider foodtuffs. We're talking HEALTH here !! Who's on our side when an import of crook beef has us losing the opportunity to EXPORT beef?

Quote:
Unless Australia is self sufficient in everything, then you are going to want to trade & trading internationally is bound to have trade-off's. With protectionism, everybody loses ultimately over the long term.
But, isn't there some SENSE in keeping some things "protected"? I see it that way.... Especially where the lack of protection can have both health risks, AND export risks.

Sorry, but I don't see much sense in having 10,000 ton of export beef passing 10,000 of imported beef on any ocean !!

Sure, sell Holden cars overseas, and have them pass by imports of Mercedes - no worries. We don't make Mercedes, so, import them.... and export Holdens where the opportunity arises. No worries - and no possible health issues there either, from where I sit !

But let's NOT be killing our exports (and risking our health) by having "beef out vs beef in" - doesn't make much sense to this little black duck !! Especially where the imports are NOT as rigorously controlled as our exports.

In the end, who KNOWS just how good these beef imports are? Or how SAFE we are from them.

I'm a simple man, SMS - let us export what WE do well, and let's import stuff that we DON'T do !! Isn't that workable? And let's oppose the import of stuff that "doesn't hold up to scrutiny" for valid reasons, particularly if it puts our nations' health at possible risk.

Hi all,

Just a quick one tonight - for the next few days, this place could well become a "Koh-free zone"

I need to be in Brisbane (fallout from that car accident in late 2007) so am flying home tonight, and back to Sydney late Tuesday. See you all whenever,

Koh

Hi all,

Here it is Easter - and I'm catching a plane to Brisbane later today, and I'll be there for a week (and TWO weekends )

Take care all - I may "pop in" from time to time while there, but certainly more "patchy". Back to Syd for Monday 12th...

Hehe, well, Easter time came and went, and I forgot to update my blog (good help is hard to find....)

Hmm, and, right now, I'm once again in Bne for the Queens Birthday weekend, and will be till Thurs 17th when I'll once again be back in Syd.
Until then, as always, my time on here will be limited.

So, if you are missing me right now, you'll understand why.... But, I'll still likely find a free 10 minutes or so (like right now) to check in ... not likely to do too much though

Sorry for being slack - and it hasn't stopped yet - there has been SO MUCH going on for me since the start of 2010.

Started with a huge VALLEY, metaphorically speaking - not quite "the valley of the shadow of death", though at times it FELT a bit like that... Just kept going down, down, down... (ulpp!!)

I don't have time to get into it all right now, 'cept to say I'm climbing out of that valley now, and on my way up the mountain (and, I'm starting to regain a wee bit of excitement re my future once more ). So, things are getting better daily.

When I have a bit more time, I'll share a bit more too - promise !!

Rock on, you three - and thanks for stopping by.

A belated thanks to thenewvee too - sorry, darl, as I didn't acknowledge you earlier

Hugs,

Well, as you know, "gems" are all about quality - and you seem to be one that delivers regularly in that vein.... No surprise to me,

Ho-ly - WHERE did 2010 go????

The early part of the year was (in French) "bloody awful" - the rest hasn't been too bad (except for some of the inane decisions of our current Federal Government ). Unfortunately, they affect us all, so 2010 ends (and 2011 looks like beginning) with me in a somewhat similar situation to the end of 2009, and beginning of 2010.

I'm NOT looking forward to that !!

This is not so much of MY making, but as a result of THEIR decisions !!Anyway, for now, there's still a bit of time to turn things around - and that will be my focus over the next weeks. Wish me luck - I'm gonna need a bunch - it is not "doom and gloom" yet !!!

I head to Brisbane tomorrow (up at sparrows, and driving...) should get me to Bne in time for lunch with a bit of luck. I have been requested to "take three weeks" (which is a bit of a bummer when contracting... ahh) so I'll be back in Syd early in the New Year.

Stay safe all - this special time unfortunately leads to having TOO MANY on the roads, and sometimes inattention can lead to accidents (even if it is NOT you who is inattentive). So, do drive with care, and let the silly bugger pull in front of you if he was stupidly trying to overtake 6 cars at once, only to find he's "run out of room" !!

You might not feel like "letting him off", but anything happening to him may well affect YOU too, far more than if you tapped the brakes to give him room....

It is the "silly season" from many angles - just don't YOU be silly !!

I may well "pop in" over these 3 weeks - but not nearly as regularly as usual. Just so you know.....

To all of my special friends on here (that means you), I just want to wish each and every one of you a special time of love and joy over the Christmas holiday period, and all the very best for the New Year to come.

Hugs,
Koh

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).
