It's probably not so important to observe the 2 hours between meals and bed on refeed, Rose, as weight loss isn't the primary objective any more. I'm not suggesting you ignore it, but don't be too concerned if you need to go to bed earlier. You're doing well with the losses.

I mentioned in another post how challenging refeed is and today i know why i said so. Family ate out today and i ended indulging for supper I
am not going to dwell on it....i probably messed up my refeed but i will continue to the end anyway. Even though i ate a small portion it still wasn't on plan so will see what the scale's verdict will be for my crime.

Rose, it can be so difficult during refeed to remember that you haven't yet finished and still must stick to your plan. Yes, go back onto refeed and finish it off properly. Maybe ask your consultant if you should go back a couple of days. However, don't stress about the lapse. As long as you finish the rest of refeed, one meal off plan is not going to ruin anything. What is important is that you don't give up because you didn't stick to plan for one meal.

Thanks for the encouragement AJ. As it turned out i am sentence was huge! Went up 800g overnight Shocking! I would like to think it's only water wt but not sure. I do however know i didn't eat enough to put on wt. So lets hope it's water retention only. And yes, I do plan to finish refeed...I know i can..i know i can...

Hi Rose

Just to be sure that you are conditioning your body properly, go back two days of your Refeed program

The purpose of the Refeed is to introduce foods gradually. Personally, I consider Refeed to be of critical importance. Without it, our bodies will just swing back to fat retention mode and all our good work will be undone.

If you have just tucked in for one meal, and your weight has jumped by nearly a kilo, that shows that your body was shocked and has responded with it's imprinted memory: Plenty of food, store some for later.

Go back two days, it's only another two days but may make all the difference.

To use the Medicine analogy again, you have overdosed, you took your medicine at the wrong time and in the wrong sequence. It will take a day or so to recover but that doesn't mean that you should stop taking the medicine, as prescribed, for the remainer of the course.

Rose, you can do this. It's not long now. Finish what you started and your body will thank you for it.

Cheers
Kristine

You didn't say what you ate, Rose, but if I have a large serving of refined carb food I can add 1 1/2 kilos overnight. If you had only a small serve, you won't have put weight on, and the 800 gms should disappear again quickly. You have been on a very low calorie diet for months, effectively in starvation mode. You need to increase calories gradually now or, as Kristine said, your body will hold onto everything.

Not far to go. Stick with it.

HI
AJ: I was actually too embarrassed to say what i had but it was some Thai noodles, probably less than a cup and mostly veg anyway but somehow it doesn't matter. Still off plan though. I must admit it was REALLY good. I was doing so well on refeed...even lost 500g and i think that gave me false comfort in thinking that i'd be ok. How wrong i was. Even though i only went up 300g from my refeed start wt, it was rather disappointing. Kristine is right in that it was a huge shock to my system. I will see what my wt is tomorrow... if it has gone up more then i'll have to reconsider going back the dreaded two days.
Thank goodness i didn't touch the pizza my hubby bought himself. It's amazing how old habits can come roaring in your face. I used to have this habit of eating everything bad the one day hoping to restart the diet the next day. A vicious cycle! This time, however, i didn't have from the pizza. If it weren't for the nasty wake up call this morning, i'd be patting myself on the back for that little bit of restraint....
Pray that the wt hasn't gone up more tomorrow please!

Hi Rose
It was interesting to readthat you started refeed before goal weight and I will be following with interest. It's also interesting to read how you feel and think differently about the 'new food' you are introducing. When I had my initial consultation at the clinic they were very adamant that after the program I could go back to a eating 'regular normal foods' but reading others refeed and maitenance - I'm not sure that many want to and do.
Wishing you a great day today - remember be kind to yourself this is yet another challenge you are doing.

Congratulation yourself on not eating the pizza, Rose. That's one habit you did overcome. Take credit for it.

In addition to the noodles there was the sauce with all its additives (I assume) plus the vegetables. You don't know what might have caused the weight increase.

Some on maintenance find that they add the weight the second day rather than the first. It looks like you might react as I do, immediate weight gain, then it falls away over the next few days. Good luck for tomorrow. I think you will feel happier when you see the scales in the morning.

You'll find the same thing happens when you get to maintenance and have an evening out, Rose. It's disconcerting at first to go out for an evening, splurge a little with your meal, then discover you have put on a lot. However, once back on Cohen friendly food, it disappears again.

Thanks KITKAT
My consultant somehow just picked a ball park figure for my goal wt and i wasn't happy with it. I actually chose a lower number.Frankly, I have no idea how she came to 60kg as a goal wt as she didn't even work out a proper BMI. I, however, took it upon myself to set a lower goal. I know it's not what i should be as i still have a flabby tummy and could lose more around my thighs. Like i said b4 though, weak as it may seem,I was really becoming frustrated with my program and i wasn't enjoying much of my food and actually thinking of deviating. Thus i decided to go onto refeed so i could end the program correctly. I am happy with fitting into a UK size 8 skirt and a size 10 pants. The hubby also got frustrated with me for not eating with the family. I think as much as the program is for ourselves and partially for hubbies as well(i'm sure they luv having a thinner wife), realistically it does take a toll on the family.
What remains to be seen is how i do on maintenance. Luckily, i have the tools now and can go onto the program on two wkly bursts if i really want to lose the rest

As for my complaints on refeed.....I think it is more because the portions have been so small and even adding 30g per has an effect on the psyche. 30g may not look like much, but it's a 30% more per meal which my brain can't seem to handle. I am sure wants the carb demon comes knocking...my brain will have no problems adjusting. It's just strange now, that's all. I seriously doubt i'm gonna be complaining when on maintenance

Default Day 10

Starting wt:56.3kg
Current weight: 56.0kg
Overnight change: -300g
Nett:-300g

Changes: 1 bad fruit/3 bread. xtra protein and veg and mixing of protein

Grateful for the mini loss today but i really put a spanner in the works. No major reactions to any of the new additions. Today i enjoyed some starawberries and i am thinking of maybe making some jam for a slice of toast tomorrow. Thus far i have stuck to low GI bread instead of the normal white and maybe that's why i didn't have any major discomfort.
I enjoyed some ostrich on my toasted cheese sandwich with tomatoes. It was awesome BUT the veggies...I hope i don't develop a phobia for it! Tomorrow i get to add a new protein and as i can't seem to handle food load i decided to have a milky coffee. Hope it goes down well
Until tomorrow..

Hi Rose
I know what you mean about the food load. I spread my extra allowance over two meals and they were huge. If I had more time to plan the menus I think I would have tried to spread the extra over three but then gets harder to keep track of. I found myself staring down huge amounts of broccoli at times!

I was really surprised regarding the bread. I put off moving onto my full allowance for a little while but once I did my weight continued to drop and was more stable at the end. Maybe just a coincidence but I found refeed really interesting in the last week.

You're nearly there!!! And thanks for dropping by my refeed diary.

Rose, I think it's important to remember that being slim doesn't mean we're all going to look like supermodels. I think that probably most of us reach maintenance with some extra deposits of fat and flab in places that we wish weren't there. Everyone has some fat on their bodies, even professional athletes. Most of us have some areas where the deposits are a bit larger. Once you are able to start exercising you may be able to tone up a bit in the problem areas.

Hi All

Starting wt:56.3kg
Current weight: 55.9kg
Overnight change: -100g
Nett:-400g
Changes: 2 bad fruit/3 bread/ xtra protein and veg and mixing of protein +40g new prot

Happy that my splurge didn't have a lasting effect. Still some loss, so i am very happy. I realise that i now become hungry soon after having the bad fruits. So that's something i'll have to keep in check. Despite this, the load is still great so I decided to make up my new protein with some milk. Maybe two coffees a day. Is there a limit to milk? Better ask my consultant.
Having my coffee now and 50ml of milk not that much. Whether i have a reaction to it remains to be seen.

I must say, i am absolutely loving my toasted cheese sandwiches. Even b4 the diet i never used to have them that often as i tried to cut out on the bread and cheeses(in my effort to lose), so i am taking advantage and having them everyday! I have never gone thru so much bread b4!... Best be off..
Until next time.

Thanks AJ and SIrroco for stopping by. It's almost over! Then the toning and exercise begins

Hi Rose,
Do you have some protein before your fruit, that will help with the insulin spike from the fruit.

I had a limit on milk that amounted to about one milk coffee a day, Rose.

Good to see that you've got past the splurge okay.

Default DAY 12

HI AJ and Shell
Shell...i didn't have protein with my fruit. I grabbed a banana on my way to work and i think i stawberries in my yogurt for breakfast. I should try addin a protein..thanks for that
AJ...I decided to one milk a day anyway even though my refeed doesn't specify. It would make sense else i would end up having a glasss of milk a day to not be bothered with adding other protein. I made the silly mistake of having full cream milk...dumbo(Only keep full cream in the house becos of my 1yr old) I think i'll just can the milk for now until i can buy some skim. BTW, that milk gave me gas!!! is that normal? was it becos of the fat content?
As for today:
Day 12

Starting wt:56.3kg
Current weight: 55.7kg
Overnight change: -200g
Nett:-600g

Changes: 2 bad fruit/3 bread/ xtra protein and veg and mixing of protein +80g new prot + 50g carb

Glad to see the scales have forgiven me.*shoo*
Today went well. Finished my last day at work today so onto my new adventure. I am probably going to be without a salary for a couple of months and struggle to make ends meet but hope that in a few months i'll have a steady stream of patients lining up my door and hopefully have them leaving with happy faces. God willing, a hopefully not too stressful time ahead. Time will tell.
Looking forward to baked chips this evening with my added portion of chicken leg. The dreaded bulk of veggies as usual!
Happy losing everyone!
until later

Hi Rose

Regarding the fruit, my program says quite clearly that you can have fruit with yoghurt, but not fruit before protein.

There is a real insulin spike if the body gets fruit after fasting

My maintenance program also advises not to eat carbohydrates until at least mid morning, for much the same reason.

The principles of the original program hold right through refeed and maintenance.

It's how we eat, as much as what we eat. So make sure that you start the day with protein

The lactose in the milk could be causing the gas.

Milk can be substituted for some of the 'old' protein, not some of the 'new' protein, unless your refeed program is different to mine!

Thanks for your comment in my diary about the vegetables.

Luckily, all the vegetables can be eaten cooked or raw. When you look at the 'carbohydrates' list, all the common vegetables are there .... corn, broccoli, carrots ... all carbohydrates!

Meat & 3 Veg really is Meat & 3 Carbohydrates, and then add the potatoes!

When I started back on the milk in 2006 I couldn't get over how greasy my mouth felt, and that was with skim milk!

And after 3 Breads today I am as bloated as a lead Zeppelin!

Anyway, first day of Mixed Protein for me tomorrow. Mixing proteins in the one meal flummoxed me last time, I feel no more encouraged about it today!

You are nearly finished now Rose, well done to you!

Cheers
Kristine
