You will have some weeks that are slower than others, and also your weight loss may slow down a little as you lose more, although it still comes off at a steady rate. There's nothing wrong with a kilo for the week, most non-Cohen dieters would be ecstatic about that. AJ

Thanks AJ for that. You are right.
I suppose I am putting more pressure on myself thinking about the fact that my support contract runs out on 7 January and I need to have reached goal weight and done the refeed by then. My target weight is tiny and I haven't been that weight since I got married 18 years ago. I just wonder how on earth I am going to get there. I have never ever got to a maintenance stage with any diet, so I think it is going to be a bit of a psychological thing for me. |

Hi Kim,
Quote:
1. From what I recall, the refeed is already covered - you just need to have completed the weight-loss portion by then 2. Even if you haven't completed the W/L part, you can choose to go "month-by-month" for a small fee (this MAY vary from clinic to clinic...) and the "biggie":- 3. I've got $20 that says you will be "done and dusted" before Christmas (refeed and all) - as long as you stick on track, of course - and that is a VERY conservative estimate as I like SAFE bets You could well be finished as early as November, depending on how your long-term losses shape up (you haven't been here long enough to really know). Anyway, please don't let it concern you at all - stay light and bright to get the best results - kick all stress and anxiety (that you possibly can) right out of your life..... You've started well, Kim - keep on staying true, and you will be fine !!! Koh

Koh's said it all for me, Kimmy. Don't stress about it, stressing only slows you down.

Week 5
I reached my four week mile stone of 72kgs last week. I have lost nearly 32 cms all over and now I am feeling really good about myself. My jeans keep falling off my hips and are now quite baggy around the thighs, very tempted to start buying some clothes but will wait it out a bit longer.
I have just finished week 5 now and have noticed that my weight loss has slowed down to a 600 gm weight loss this week. I know that there are flucuations and plateaus and I think this may just be one of them. I will keep on soldiering on as the results speak for themselves. We finally had a bit of a social life this weekend. I have felt quite the hermit lately, so we invited some friends over for afternoon tea. I supplied Lattes, scones, cream and jam and just nibbled away on my crackers. I found myself being a bit grumpy after they left but proud of myself for hanging in there. I never realised how much socialising we do around food. Hope you are all having a great week. Keep up the great work. |

Well done, with the weight loss and with resisting temptation. I've got about the same amount to go as you, and I'm also resisting buying new clothes, even though the ones I'm wearing are baggy, because I figure anything that fits well now will be baggy in a few weeks (it had better be). I'm hoping that by the time the weather gets warmer I'll be close enough to goal to start working on a new summer wardrobe.

Hi Lessismore
Well done on your weight loss you have achieved huge losses. A friend said to me today that sometimes it takes a while for our brains to register what our bodies are achieving. She suggested that I buy one or two things just to help me adjust to being smaller and getting in the mindset that things are changing. Good advice I think, any excuse to shop! Take care. Kim |

Well done on staying 100% when surrounded by food, Kimmy.
We have such amazing losses on Cohen's that we forget that 600 gms is a good loss on any other diet. Yes, your weight does fluctuate from week to week. Just stick to the diet and you will have steady losses, although not necessarily as rapid as you would like. AJ

Hi Kim,
You are a couple of weeks ahead of me. My losses have not been spectacular, but steady. That's also the way that I gained all the weight. Nothing all at once, just a kilo or two each year. I figure that each kilo I lose takes me back about 1 year. My goal weight is the same as when I got married - 34 years ago!!! It doesn't seem possible to me at the moment. I will be very happy to get back to 50kg. That will take me back to the 80's. Still a long way to go, but at least I'm closer than 3 weeks ago. Here's hoping you have a great week.

Week 6
Thanks everyone for all your replies. It helps so much to have support from you all. I have had an awesome week this week. My weight loss this week has been 1.5 kg and another 8.5 cm. Certainly makes up for last weeks dismal results.
I am finding Pilates a lot easier to teach now my stomach isn't getting in the way. I don't feel so embarrassed of my body standing in front of a class as I use to. I am getting a lot more comments now as the weight loss is certainly noticeable. We had a family dinner with my parents on the weekend and my Mum said in front of everyone she really admired my determination to see this through. So that was a real buzz for me. Hope you are all having a great week. Speak to you next week! Cheers Kim |

Hi
Ki Ora Aloha,
Thanks for your message, much appreciated. Yes we have had one of our worst winters ever. Very little sunshine and more rain than I ever wish to see again. Out of 15 weeks, there have been seven weekends of torrential/stormy weather, so you can imagine we are getting quite fed up here. Our South Island has experienced a lot of minus temperatures so at least Auckland seems balmy in comparison! Congratulations on your weight loss - 10 kg is nothing to sneeze at. I hope you get back on the program soon. Remember one day at a time (or in my case one meal at a time!) Cheers Kim |

Hi Kimmy,

Now I know your height, I also know you are cruising down through the "Overweight" range (you're almost halfway down, with a BMI of 28 ) and I wanted to see if I could welcome you into a "new range" yet. But not yet..... Still, I'll stick with my original prediction that you will be one happy little lady come Xmas.... Koh

Congratulations on your losses, Kim. I wish we'd had some of your rain. We have had some rain this winter, but need far, far more that we've had to fill our storages.

Week 7
Hi everyone,
I have had my ups and downs this week emotionally. One of my very close friends is about to turn 40 and his wife would like to do a sit down hosted dinner - crap. They are planning it in a fortnight's time. I don't know what to do. I don't want to sit there eating my little plate of food and have all their friends wondering why I am not eating what they are being served and having to explain yet again to the caterer. Another thing is I don't want to be around alcohol, I miss my glass of wine. I have had to be in this sort of situation a couple of times now and I am getting quite tired of it. I have to say I am a little upset with my friend who knows that I am trying to achieve something that is really important to me. To be honest I would rather not be invited! Anyway enough of my whining! Sorry I just have to vent. I have been reading some of the maintenance diaries this week and I have come to the realisation that you can't just go back to eating what you like. There are consequences to everything we put in our mouths. I had this idea that after completing the food plan that I would be able to eat anything I liked without worrying. I am now beginning to understand that my food addiction craves for the return of my bad eating habits but in order to defeat that addiction I am going to have to try and stay away from the foods that lead me down the garden path so to speak. What a wake up call I came across an article in the NZ Herald a few weeks ago which some of you may be interested in. I have kept for when I go on to maintenance. In it, it talks about a pill which may lock in the benefits of dieting, allowing dieters to return to normal eating without puting on weight. They also claim the dietary supplement alpha-lipoic acid (sold in health shops) also slows ageing, which is a known effect of low-calorie diets. The scientists have discovered that by following a calorie restriction diet for six months and then taking alpha-lipoic acid while eating normally fools the body into behaving as if it was still on whatever diet it was following before the supplement was added. Apparently it has an anti-obesity effect. Although the weight does rise when you come off the restricted diet, if you take alpha-lipoic acid, even though you ar eating normally again you still have a reduced weight. I am going to look into this more, but it sounds like it might be an aid for me for the maintenance part of this program. What do you think? This week I have lost a kilo and 4 cm. I have now kissed the 70 kgs goodbye for ever. Speak to next week. Cheers Kim |

Pity about the dinner. I guess this eating seems so central and all important to us, while we're doing it, but it's really not that to others around us, and they continue their lives and expect us to fit in with them. Can you, politely, say no and explain that while you're on your current eating plan it's not something you can do?
The medication sounds interesting. At the moment, I feel quite positive about making permanent long term changes to my eating - and it is, as you said, a breakthrough moment when you work out you are going to have to do that. LiM
