Hi gorgeous ladies,

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. Just a quick one right now to say the "27th" unofficially turned out pretty good - and it seems likely that I will be returning to Sydney once more to start in a new arena with the same company.

The only "problem" was that the projected start time of 1st Aug was pushed out to 8th Aug (and today, I think I found out why..... ). It is not for publication, but is quite understandable under the circs.

So, for now, I am still in Brisbane, but expect to be returning this weekend.

Hugs,
Koh

Aww, thanks, all you darls !!

Yeah, I am a pretty happy camper. Apart from one further "little change", all is shaping up nicely for me !!
Quote:
I am still in Brisbane, but expect to be returning this weekend.
....and THAT was the change. Late last week, I learned that Monday 8th was "a little early" and that my start would now be Wed 10th - so, I stayed at home for a couple more days.....

But now I am back in Sydney (just got in). Another uneventful car trip (the kind I like ) - apart from several manual "Stop" signs keeping us on hold as Oversize trucks carrying pre-stressed beams for bridges took "right-of-way".

All good - they are working on several Bypasses on the Pacific Highway - and the time to Sydney will be shortened ONCE they are all complete - so, GO boys !!! Whoot, whoot, whoot !!!

The nice thing is that the 2.5 weeks I had planned for in Brisbane became FOUR weeks - so, a nice long holiday for me and the Missus !!

Anyway, back into the paid work once more - and "nicely paid" once again...... the "other stuff" is behind me now, thank heaven.

I managed to "pop in" here once or twice over that 4 weeks - but, for the most part, other things took priority (as they should)

@Louise - Thanks - I believe it has worked out for the best.

@MissNix - It is a nice feeling knowing that they can't do without me - and even nicer being back on my "old wage" (the GOOD one...)

@Embee, NewVee, Sapphire and Bells - thank you all for your sparkly good wishes. Gives me a lovely warm feeling.....

Hugs,
Koh

Well, here we are a few more days "down the track", and I have even had my first pay (noice).

I get paid Weekly now, rather than Monthly - how nice is that - it has been so long..... (whew)

The new role is looking promising. I know I will do it well, and they will get a good outcome. Much of my work could be done within 6 months, but then, if done well, they might choose to "look further", and want to keep me around to guide their steps in a larger operation. Why not?

As well as that, I have been "dipping my toe in the water" for a few months with seminars that are "out there" re wealth, and the myriad ways to accumulate it. Some interesting thoughts coming out from some. All end with "Pay us, and we'll show you".

That is fair enough, as the knowledge gained would be repaid many times over. For now, though, I am keeping my powder dry while I suss out "What's out there". With my background, anything Property related is particularly of interest, and a seminar a few days back was of particular interest to me. Let's see what eventuates, but, for sure, the presenter certainly gave me a few "Aha !!" moments. (that is always good )

"Koh, would you like to replace your yearly Income by doing something like one or two deals per year?"

Umm, I'll have to think about that.... for about a second and a half

Hehe, no, I am not about to sign up, but the thoughts espoused could well be "shining a light" for my future, using property already accumulated. Nice - again.....

Suffice to say, I am slowly coming to realise that "having a job" is not the be-all and end-all that I have long held it to be. I guess I just LIKE the daily interaction, the chance to "make a difference", and the good feelings associated with both of those.

I have been a PAYG employee for decades now... but who's to say it needs to go on that way? Can I do "two deals a year"? Hmmmm.... and have the rest of the year off? Twist my arm.....

So, in essence, that seminar made a lot of sense to me.

Is it something I can do? ABSOLUTELY !!
Do I know enough about it yet? NO
Will I know in future? YES is always possible....

Exciting, makes sense, and is quite a possibility. Thinking on it as we speak.... Hmmmmm.....

Koh

I hope that you find something profitable that suits you Koh.
I have always found that property is a great investment, though mostly one for the long term gain. When it comes to shares I have stuck with the bluechip and they have stood by me even through the GFC I have done okay compared to many. (and even a bit better by buying more when prices were down) It's always great to be able to make your money work for you, rather than always having to work for the money! Just make sure you do your homework well (which Im sure your will) we have just had all the poor folks up here who lost their life savings with Storm financial which made me glad I had always followed the conservative approach.
Best of luck my friend!

Good to hear the new role is working out for you
I spent 18 months working for myself from home, I found I really missed the interaction with people that comes with being a PAYG employee... but it had so many advantages too!

I dabbled in some ideas back then and upon researching them I found a couple of them were nothing but scams... as someone said to me if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is!

Hope whatever path you decide to follow it works out well for you... and like Louise said be careful and I am sure you will do your homework

Thanks Elle and Em,

Nice to get a few more thoughts.... and a further thought hit me tonight -re this earlier comment of mine :-

Right now, I am thinking "Why not do one or two deals a year and CONTINUE being a PAYG employee?" A little more conservative, but then, that sits pretty well with me - Hmmmm

Now, THAT makes sense to this little black dog !! Woof !!

Hey Koh,

Sounds like lots of interesting information coming your way and food for thought.

For me - I prefer to spend than save or invest but of late I have been giving investing some thought.

Good luck - I hope it all goes well.

Cheers

Hi all,

And thanks to you special people for dropping in.

Right now, I'm gearing up to be "away from here" for a few days.

I'm heading to NZ on Friday evening, and returning Tuesday arvo. My Sis lead me to a REAL deal - Jetstar does special "Friday deals" - I'm not sure it is EVERY Friday, but I managed to get two "one-way" deals for each of the trips. And, guess what I paid :-

Friday - Syd to Chch - $110 (was $99, but I selected the option of "Choosing my seat" - and then there were extra $$ for the booking itself). but I'm not complaining.....

And on Tuesday, Chch to Syd - same deal, but $110 NZ (which worked out to around AU$90) So, I get there and back for $200 total !!!!

I'm a happy camper !!! The original plan was to be there when a nephew "tied the knot" - and his brother was coming too, AND it is Sis's birthday (and Mum's 92nd just a week or two later).

In the end, the "tie the knot" bloke stayed in Massachusetts, but I'll get to see his brother for the first time in - oh, forever?? I last saw him when he was around 8 years old - he should be around 35 now

ANYWAY..... just looking forward to it, and to more "impromptu trips back home" from time to time. We've lived in Australia for 27 years now, so are really part of the furniture here. But, last trip (for Mum's 90th) we both felt a pull we hadn't felt on earlier trips back.

So, who knows???? Will we choose to move back? Not while I am gainfully employed, but then things change in contracting circles. Will I want to go on working now that I am the tender age of 65?

For now, yes - tomorrow

Anyway, if you don't see me around for a few days, NOW you'll know why !!
Koh
