Hows it going Peter.? agree with you, I think in the last part of the program I ate more muscle than fat. Some fat just doesnt want to be metabolised and will hang around your middle!

I have been going to Gym and doing Kendo these days building muscle mass, my weight has increase to 84.5KG * but body fat now down to 19.1% from 21.5% when I finished Cohen at 78KG, so I think I have built 7KG of muscle mass. I have been attempting to treat the process with the seriousness I approached Cohen, planned routines and increase loadings of weights at the gym, lots of lean protein 300gms/day (drink supplements, creatine on gym days etc), HIIT.

I honestly think the HIIT training is clearly one area in which menin particular can lose weight through exercise...but only some weight , maybe the fat that cannot be metabolised whilst in a restrictive diet. HIIT would be nonsense for the obese, the me of the past

Not good less Fatty.

It seems I have settled into a routine of a few days in row on the diet and I lose 2kg but then a weekend or social event comes along and I go back up. I am not following my rules above.

So I am sitting at 87kg and 25% body fat and yes, that is chubby, size 36 ok but 34 tight.

I have been reluctant to write here and I keep saying to myself "tomorrow, or next week I will get into it". I have the motivation but not the time so really I dont have enough motivation.
So I think I need the public shame and personal statment to get myself back in the groove. I hope I have not let too many fans down.

I think I have to make the commitment to the next stage like yourselef to make fitness as dilligent as COhens. Ther eis simply gym locally and I could go after my daughter goed to bed.

Anyhow got to go so will come back in a week, with good news I hope.

Peter 14.7

PS I like your link to the HITT. Thanks for that. I might try that with my walks. It makes sense.

Peter,

It's not easy coming of the plan and sticking to your weight. I've also hit 88kg but have dragged that down to 83.9 (as of today). I fully expect to have 1 month of cohens starting Jan 1st after what will be a Melbourne based home cooked Christmas. I have tried a couple of half hearted attempts and "sort of" done it but I guess we've been the same in that a blow out hurts and seeing we're blowing out from a higher base, it gets worse.

So I intend to start my diary here again January. Why don't you join me ? I reckon we could have a quick 8kg sprint race. Winner takes it all. It's only one month of Cohens. After the 5-6 months effort we put in this year, we owe it to ourselves, our familes, friends and supporters here to get back to where we should be.

Are you up for it ?

Yes I am up for it. That is a deal! A race like the good old days will be very motivating. Do we start new thread or run on from these ones? Run on is probably best but I am open.

Sorry to hear you have gone done the same path Baloo. I expected an reply from you AND for it to be very critical, so in a perverse way I feel a little better.
It reinforces to me businessmen types like us, when off the diet, are exposed to a lot of bad choices. I seems to creep it. What is the solution?:

I stopped daily weighing as I was made to feel I was getting paranoid. Maybe that was bad idea?
Gym has been stop and start, so not much real results. Whilst I am a lot stronger than at 77kg but I have the fat to go with it.
Most of all I hate not fitting well into my new slim clothes, I refuse to buy bigger.

AND I dont think I have been that bad? Is it simply at 42 and a mostly sedentary life I cannot eat much at all? Ever again.... unless I beef up the physical stuff.

So I have been thinking about getting serious for a while but you know what I think is holding me back????... and this may be BS.

Most people have not noticed the gain and say "well you look healthy now." So when I even hint I am going back onto the diet they give me the look. You know the one. The "you are getting obsessive" look. All they see is the 25kg still off, not the 10kg gained. My wife would like to see 5kg off but no more. I want 7kg and muscle.

So it makes sense to start after X mas as I know I have a number of functions/lunches/BBQ coming up and I cannot be bothered with the angst of having to defend myself.

We will make a good team Baloo and maybe we can set a goal in the interium till 1st Jan of building some muscle to start at a higher level with? Less Fatty at 84.5kg and 19.1% makes me peeved. We can do better mate! :P

Default Re: Peter 14.7 Diary : new me started 27 Feb 07

We can continue the old threads. It may make us read our earlier posts and see how committed we really were.

For me, I was up again quite soon after finishing refeed. Saturday was my first "no cohen's day" and Sunday I flew to London for a business trip. Alone, in London, wining and dining and allowed to eat anything for the first time in 6 months, 2 weeks and 4 days - a recipe for disaster. I came back a week later about 5 kg up. I used to flactuate between 86/87kg on a Monday and drag that down to 82/83 on a Friday. It's obvious that weekends were a kille. I didn't mind that too much as I was still comfortable in my 32" pants and shorts (33" in levis for some reason).

2 weeks ago I ran up to japan. That wasn't the killer but I left the wife and baby baloo there for an extra week. So there I was home, alone for the first time in a while and I pigged out snacking left right and centre. I had nothing to do (I wanted to get some rest) and sat in front of the TV. I ended up suplementing my meals (Macca's, Pizzas) with instant noodles in between and the mandatory 2 tubes of pringles a day. The result of that was a definite shift up in weight. Body fat % on my scales went for 17%/18% up to 22%. This morning it was 20%. Clothes are tighter.

So, for me, it's the indulgences of the weekend and when I am bored. I now my issues, I just need to find a way to control them now. Gym sessions have been stop and start due to various sporting injuries I've picked up along the way. really that's an excuse. I've just been lazy.

I also hear you on the "you look healthier now" comments. They annoy me no end but I can see why they say it. If they looked at my body they'd see "solid" or "cuddly". Not too skinny. But it's the face they look at and after loosing so much weight so quickly, the skin hasn't had a chace to tighten up so we look gaunt. I know and you know that it's just a matter of time before it tightens up, but others aren't so sure. My wife has started calling me fat again so I guess it's her subtle way of telling me I need to drop a few Kgs.

So, let's aim for Jan 1, though it might be tough. Jan 7th wihich is a Monday better ? Gives as a chance to finish off the festive food lying around and relaxing a bit. I won't have much chance of hitting a gym until then as we're off to Melbourne.

So, the race is on. I'm actually quite excited about this again and I can feel the commitment building again.

Reading your post is like reviewing my life.

Commitment during the week ok but when away or social weekends..... then it falls apart.

Does not help, as stated before, I have a wife that can eat anything and bakes as a hobby. Gingerbread men, shortbread etc... And you know I dont really need.crave them but I like the comfort feel when back from Sydney business trip to sit back with cup of tea (with milk) and home made bikkie. Means I am home again.

Anyhow I settle on an apartment in Sydney next Monday so then I can cook more and it has a gym and a pool. I expect to be there one week ifor 3 days in two weeks fixed so having a set routine should help.

On your visit to Melbourne I am only 1hr drive in the Macedon Ranges. Interested in catching up if you have time. It is an easy drive and lots to do (sadly too much of it good food) but we could walk up Hanging Rock! OR Bush Walk Mount Macedon. Little Baloo's pram will fit.

Dont care which day we start but how about we start a new thread were we both post our daily results? That way those watching us only need to comment at one point and the race is more intense?

Peter

As much as I'd love to have a picnic at Hanging Rock, we're only there for 7 days (that includes the 2 days at airports) and my parents are already complaining about not having enough time with their grandson.

I have a cousin getting married soon and hope to come back for another week. Hopefully we can meet up then.

Yeah, a single thread sound good.

Hi Baloo and Peter

good luck! It sounds like the typical trap of boredom and 'cos I can' eating. 2 tubes of Pringles, and I bet if you hadn't started on the first one, you probably wouldn't have missed anything either. But they just find their way into ours mouths once we've started.

Your journey is an inspiration, I'm on day 8 of re-feed, and dreading the time to come. However, as I've been deviating moderately throughout the program and the re-feed and still been able to reach and then keep my weight, I am hoping it's not gonna be that hard for me to stay straight.

Anyway, looking forward to your race on your consolidated thread from 7 January 2008! Have a great Xmas, but remember, you're in a race now, so every kilo you pack on during that time will make the other one look better.

Katrin

Yeah I was thinking about that.

We perhaps need three measures such as over the perios of the race:

BMI lost
KG lost
BF lost

Winner best two out of three. That way if one of us finishes before the other then he is required to keep the weight off and then build muscle to lower the BF and BMI

Hi to both of you and Merry Christmas,

Congratulations on your most personal posts and letting others here inside your worlds. This must be such a difficult road and like you say sedentary work is a killer on the weigh. I applaud your new commitment and look forward to seeing you back in the new year. A few kgs is nothing in the overall scheme but exercise and toning I'm sure will be your saving grace.

My doctor not long ago said to me to be careful with restricted diets and bone loss as this can have a devistating impact down the track so just keep that in mind when revisiting this program often.

Journey well both of you and have an excellent Christmas.

Melissa

Hexi, this is a family oriented forum. There will be no man-on-man butt whipping, at least with me involved !

And you won't get your magic dust anytime soon. You are totally going about it the wrong way. Instead of buttering me up, you keep trying to get others to over rule me.

Hi to Peter and Baloo

How exciting - a duel of two great cohen masters , to become lighter, trimmer, buffed and scuffed and all in the month of January with the entire rest of us on the forum watching your every post! I am excited as i love others challenges even more than being part of one msyelf!

Yes, having read both of your diaries in their entirety when i came on the scene in August, you clearly both have more than what it takes to call forth a new reality that reflects yr inner strenth on the outer, rather than settling for slightly flabby soft bodies and body fat % higher than LessFatty! Bring back the 6 pack I say!

Oh and Baloo, i find the dancing bananas very inspiring when i am replying which is contrary to what Kannadew said. Plse poll for consensus BEFORE hiding them in (more).

So peter, are we doing this ? Start jan 1st or jan 4th ? I am up for either really.

Going by today's weight I should have about 10kg to lose which will bring me to the bottom of Santa's original range. I'm thinking that I should try the LF approach of dropping the weight to the lowest of the range, or even less (LF went 10kg under) and then start building the muscle up so that I can still hover around the 78-80kg mark after some muscle gain and fitness.

Let me know when you are keen to start and I can create a new combined diary.

Hey Baloo and Peter

You have some competition! I am back to 100% strict Cohens starting TODAY cos i want to go 4kg UNDER the low end of Cohens!

I for one choose NOT to wait until 1st Jan cos being a true blue scot i need something else in place to stop me doing the good old scottish get paralytic thing ya do on New years eve . My family (dads next door to me and the family are visiting him with the aim to "get drunk !!!" they told me yesterday and hubby and i are off to dine with our born again Christian pastor and wife - both NEVER touch the grog, so perfect place for me to "behave"!

My sister said, just join us when you get home and i replied - nup, this can be my first time EVER in the history of my adult life (now 53yrs old!) when i dont see it as an excuse to eat and drink to excess (if you know scots, they dont stop till they drop!!! )

Dont ya love Santas plan! Anyway, i was wondering if yr countdown with Peter was still on cos you two have been quiet, glad to see it is and looking forward to reading all about it! Pandora
