Re: mcpsych's diary
Mcpsych, I just read your post in the discussion thread about alcohol, and I really like this sentance you wrote;
"celebrations of milestones on this program should be disassociated from food and drink as much as possible- that is one of the keystones of this program- food is our fuel no longer our raison d'tre - see c-jaye for an outrageous method of celebration ( new clothes anyone) as the kohman says, raise a glass of diet coke - then look in the mirror look yourself in the eye and say "you my friend are fantastic" (didn't know how to do the proper quote thingy sorry). But this really is the key to success on this program and being able to keep up this healthy lifestyle for the rest of our lives. Its all about making it ok not having some of the things other people are eating/drinking and making an event about good company rather than the food - that is one of the many things I have learn't and are learning from this program anyway. Nah, I really agree with what you have written - I love the quote you added from Koh, and yes, love C-Jayes shopping idea as a reward - love it! Thanks Mark. Lisa |

Re: mcpsych's diary
okay- takes mod hat off, puts on psychology hat
please bear with me as a use a metaphor when one gets a cold one also gets a runny nose- this is a symptom. One treats the runny nose with codral- this does not cure the cold only treats the symptom. The obesity epidemic is not the same as a fat epidemic. Fatness is a symptom. Losing weight treats the symptom not the cause. Now some people have physical causes, thyroid, pecos et alia. Othere have psychological causes. Regardless, losing weight will treat a symptom ( fatness). Look to the cause and treat the cause otherwise when treatment for the symptom stops ( diet/exercise ends) the symptom ( fatness ) returns Psychologist hat off cheers mark

Re: mcpsych's diary
Greetings and salutations ( takes of mod hat)
I have a few things to say firstly- while I may not agree with what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it however, in the next few posts I am going go talk about my beliefs regarding life the universe and everything ( including weight and weightloss) you may disagree with what I have to say- that is okay but if you do I would appreciate it if you posted any disagreement in your own diaries ( your beliefs that is where they belong) I ask this to avoid any long chain discussions taking away from the points I wish to make thank you cheers mark

Re: mcpsych's diary
Firstly
no one can make you do say think or feel anything you don't want to do say think or feel everything we do , we do from personal choice if someone holds a gun to your head and says open the safe you still have a choice I admit it is a shtty choice but it is still yours if someone puts a chocolate cake or glass of wine in front of you it is still your choice if it goes in your mouth

MUSTERBATING
the use of irrational statements ( beliefs) to make descisions in our lives I must lose weight i must clean the house i must go to work Really???? It would be nice if i did the above but sometimes these things are not possible- does this make me any less worthy Surely- I am worthy of love and respect by virtue of the fact that I am a human being, I do not need to do or say anything , unconditional positive regard is mine by right. ( and hence, of course , yours gentle reader) While there are a number of circumstances where it would be advantageous to lose weight ( e.g. imminent death) there are NO circumstances where you HAVE TO lose weight. Hence, if you choose this program, i put it to you, that you choose to do it or not, you choose to complete it or not, you choose your own outcomes This is called Reality cheers mark

Who's Driving Your Bus
There is a fair bit of talk about getting back on the bus after a deviation. I think it is probably more important to check out the driver before you reboard. Would you want a junkie or a drunk driving your bus. If you let an uncontrollable food addict drive your bus what are the chances the bus will crash straight into a McDonalds deep fryer?- pretty high I would suggest. Make sure the drivers head is on straight before you get on board. Who's driving YOUR bus?

Re: mcpsych's diary
So instead of getting on the bus and taking a passenger seat - should we get on, grab the steering wheel, smile at the passengers and say "Strap in people, we're taking a ride and I'm in control"!

Re: mcpsych's diary
No no cc I don't mind comments cobtinueing in the diary ( because ,after all, it is all about me)
I just don't see any point in debating the points I make as they are made from my belief and I have no intention of changing them on another matter- hmm yes me and Keanu I can see the resemblance

I'm still processing the sypmtom/cause analogy - a goodie I thought. Will take my slow brain a while to even get round to the rest!
In fact I don't think I can absorb more than one concept at a time especially when there is talk of Keanu..... I still vote Mc Steamy. ff |
