Your upcoming weekend sounds very interesting!! I'd also wait with starting the program until you've got that out of the way!
I'm very impressed with your commitment and attitude to the program!! Well done, you will soooooooo succeed and melt those kgs away and be nearing goal before you even realise it! It does seem a bit overwhelming and impossible at the beginning, but as the kgs drop away, you see it becoming more and more of a reality and possibility! It's exciting stuff!

Have fun dancing around the fire this weekend!

Vee

YEH, watching the timing of my water yesterday paid off - 1 kg down - that is .5 that I 'gained' and .5 new ! That makes 2.8 total - not bad for 5 days pre cohens.

I was so pleased with myself today - was eldest sons birthday so bought him cake - one of my previous faves was what he wanted. Had no problems not eating it although whole family were sitting there eating huge slices with milo and milk. I just had a coffee. I would not have believed that was possible a week ago. Wow. I really don't want to stop them completely having things so I am glad I have found the internal strength to be OK with it.

Thanks for stopping by my diary my friends.

AJ - thanks for the thread - have read it - think I will let 4 be my max most days - maybe a bit of flexability in there until I see what works for me.

Mette - your taking one meal and one day at a time is working well for oyu - you are on the downhill run to the finish!

Bruni and Vee - firecircle is next weekend - this weekend have a performance up in the Blue Mountains at a festival there. Sometimes it seems like a long way til I will be starting but only a bit over a week - and i will be eating this way for a long time. I think this way is giving me time to adjust.

Manderella - glad I gave you a laugh - quickest way to lift the spirits. I honestly don't know when I was ever that weight lol.

Oh, yes I realised I have started - so goal one achieved. I started on Sunday - 12th October 2008 - that was day I got in the ZONE and changed eating patterns. I am very close to under 130 kgs so that can be Goal 2 and then Goal 3 is to begin offical Cohens programme. Hope Goal 2 comes before Goal 3.

Blessings All
Shanara

I found that I had to cut back water about half a litre from the 1 litre/25 kgs, Shanara. I would get dizzy if I drank the full quantity. It's handy to know that reducing water can help if you do get dizzy.

Well done you on not having any cake

It actually felt really good for me when I resisted my first dessert last week, I proved to myself that I can still socialise without putting the unhealthy things into my body... kind of the same feeling as when I quit smoking and realised I can still talk to my H2B, without a ciggarette

It's so great that you are in "the zone" before you have even officially started Cohens.

Enjoy your weekend

Tam

You're a champion Shanara! Well done on losing 2.8kgs resisting birthday cake!

The next birthday in my house is mine... and I have asked for no bday cake. Obviously I can't have any, so there is really no need for the others to have to have some too.

I have my fingers tightly crossed for you... I hope your goal 2 comes before goal 3 ( I have a strong feeling it will )

Ooh I hear you on the cake, I have been so proud also of even making my lot cakes and desserts and then nibbling on my vitawheat while they eat. Lol it was hard last night when they had pizza and spag bol. But mighty glad when you see the scales go down next day.
You are powering along, keep up the good work!!

Feeling quite tired today - yesterday was a big day. I am going to have to be really organised to do these festivals whilst I am on program. With the choaticness of the space I lost contact with my water ...and there was absolutely nothing there I could eat. It was a potato festival in a community garden - so everything had ....you guessed it ...POTATO!

I got home, very late ..happy and very hungry ...lucky I had taken some apples and a sachet of tuna. I know if I wasn't doing the precohens I would have just pigged out on carbs. I did eat some saladas though ...was saving them til I got on the offical programme. I just knew I needed some carbs so thought Saladas were the best option.

Leftovers of sons birthday cake was staring at me ....yet I didn't succumb. One of the main things I am getting out of this is a real sense that I can do this if I set my mind that I can. Glad I am getting a chance to work out how to deal with life's chaos on this program.

Slimstar - yes - we have to really keep those scales and our bodies foremost in mind.

Lisa - maybe a Cohens muffin with a candle in it ?????

Tam - good on you for quitting smoking - think that is a real challenge too.

AJ - yes - I am going to speak to my consultant about the water - shall watch out for the dizzy bit.

Yes I feel good about resisting birthday cake - just wish he'd hurry up and finish the thing.

Blessings
Shanara

Shanara!
Well done on sticking to your pre cohens! I admire your strength.
Keep up the brilliant work.
I told my husband today that I don't want any cake... so he agreed to buy me a beautiful candle that I can blow out instead. Still got a few weeks to worry about that yet though A cohens muffin sounds yummo though!

Lisa

I don't know if its strength or fear - really don't want to go through the detox again - that was my motivation for doing Precohen in the first place - make it easier on myself when I start the programme.

Nevertheless I am doing it .....YAYAYAYAY

Thanks for your encouraging words - most people wouldn't understand the joy of resisting a piece of cake ...not that I'd have stopped at one before.

Blessings

Congrats on being so strong and determined, Shanara!
You are so going to just take this journey home, even before you begin, as you have your head in the right place and you are all set to go!
Your losses to date are fantastic, and they will be even better and more continuous right down to your goal weight once you begin!! You are in for an awesome journey, of which you have already begun!!

That takes guts as well as determination, and I see you have both!
Great to see!
I'll be following your journey with much interest and cheering of your achievements!

Hi Shanara,
Just catching up with your journal.

My daughter can only eat pasta or potato based foods (due to her disability and oral sesnory issues) so before cohens I think everymeal contained pasta, potato or bread for me. Not any more. I know where you are coming from in that aspect.

Some hints that have helped me along are:
1. Prepack your meals - Saves time and no excuses if your running late because it is ready to go.

2. Chewing gum when preparing food (I can't remember who told me that one) help to prevent picking while preparing food.

3. Inspiration notes for your self are really helpful. I have a chart on my kitchen wall saying how much I have lost, how much to go before next goal and how much to go total. I have also been doing a good old sticker chart (which my daughter thinks is fantastic, mum has one as well has her) I place a sticker if I have been 100% all day, It's good motovation because anyone who comes over can see if I have been eating and I love their positive comments so don't want them to see an x instead of a sticker.

4. I have heaps of clothes that are too small for me which I have hung up my favorite outfit, that is 1-2 sizes too small for me, in my bedroom where I can see it every day, great focus point. The first pair of pants I had up there already fit me and I have a heap of shirts which are back in my wardrobe instead of my box of clothes that dont fit.

5. Water - I aim for 3 lts a day so I fill two 1.5 litre water bottle every morning and when I go out I take them with me so I have no excuse for not having access to water. (I was caught out one day when my car broke down, not happening again)

You are doing great so far, well done.

Good on you for resisting all the temptations, Shanara! Every victory makes the next one easier, and soon the habits will be cemented! Once that happens, you've won! And then the weightloss is just a formality. Stay strong and keep smiling!

Well, I got my programme today and as I read it I could feel myself having this real fear reaction - you know dread in the stomach - hair follicles sensitive, mouth dry, fear in the body.

Somehow getting the programme makes this really concrete and the variety of food really limited. Somehow its the variety thats really got to me - I might eat too much but we eat lots of fresh, healthy, organic vegetables - and I just freaked when I saw the list of allowed veges.

Just concentrating on breathing now -

Forgive me for drawing attention to this but I really feel a bit devastated.

Jenny - thanks - I hope you are right.

Mette - not feeling very strong now - don't worry - i'll get over it .

Bruni - yes was until now - am starting next Wednesday after my weekend out in the bush - will keep doing precohens til then.

SJL - thanks for all your tips - am taking them on board. I have a dress I bought in Peru that I am really excited about the possability of getting back into - thought it was never going to be.

Well best go I am supposed to be doing an assignment - but can't concentrate on it now - so thought I would just spill myself in here. Hope it works - have to get these assignments done.

Blessings
Shanara

A very belated hello Shanara I've just caught up with your diary and wow you're setting the scales on fire already!

I just wanted to say that I also felt a lil nervous when I first read through my plan. I didn't trust myself to stay interested in the Cohen's foods and to resist temptation when I was allowed what seemed like so little.

But I can tell you, as soon as those scales started to move the right way... that fear started melting off right along with the fat *laughs* There's a great saying that's often used around the forum.... "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"! And it's SO true. Cohen's rewards you with results SO quickly that you have the high of seeing the success of the program immediately and it really helps to keep you strong.

Also, I found that reading through the recipe book I was sent and also the recipe section of this forum here REALLY helped me! When you read some of the great and inventive things that other Cohenites have come up with, it really gives you faith that YES you CAN have things that will taste yummy on this program!

You'll find that soon enough you'll have found your favourite snacks and favourite dishes which really DO taste/feel like a treat when you have them!

Happy Almost Start Date!!!

I think you'll be surprised once you actually get in to it, Shanara. And the recipe book and the recipe section of the forum will give you heaps of ideas so you'll be able to use what you can have in so many different ways. I understand the fear, but I promise you it will abate when you see the results and the happy hormones set in. And don't apologise for writing what you feel in your diary. This is your space, and you can put whatever you want in here. You'll be fine, trust me. Take care!

Great post Mette!

Personally, I was really surprised once I got into it how easy it was to make meals. Initially I thought, What? No carrot, corn etc - they are the only veggies I love.

Fortunately Cohens really does give you what your body needs, so for the most part I've found that it's only the battle in my head I have to face. There really has been no battle hunger wise or anything.

You'll do great once you get into it - I'm sure of it one little step at a time (meal by meal... day by day... gram by gram)

Shanara, it's not long before you really notice just how good the vegetables taste. I discovered cabbage, a vegetable I had always found boring. I now love cabbage, probably ate more of it than any other vegetable. I did get tired of only having green and white vegetables by the time I reached the end, but didn't get tired of the taste of them.

Treat your diary as your personal space, which others can visit if they wish. Write whatever you are feeling, particularly if you are feeling strong emotions, and get it out of your head.
