What a great thread buried in pg 2.

I've only been on Cohen's for 4 weeks but already feel changes
Apart from the obvious weight loss, I have oodles of energy. My body shape is changing. From an apple to a pear. Tell ya, my bum better catch up with the boobies .
I have never eaten so well. I used to think it was very expensive to eat healthily. But lol what an excuse. I have more money in my pocket after the supermarket then I ever did eating **cheaply**

Great read seeing how everyone has different reactions but very similar in others. But I do have one query

Why is it such an emotional ride for the ladies, but men seem to breeze through? Just from reading diaries, it seems women are more likely to dev then men. Then kick themselves forever over it. Interesting how that works. If anyone has any idea, I would love to hear it.

Maybe penny will pop in here with some insight on that. But for me, it would seem that for women it's harder to lose from a physical POV but I also sense it's also a more emotional problem that seems to go hand in hand with it as well. For the guys, well, I can only speak for myself, but it seems we are able to see it from a purely logical POV and therefore it's a guideline to follow without thinking about it too much. We don't seem to get "involved" in it from an emotional perspective. At least I don't. It's just something I had to do so I did it. I guess that why the men rarely deviate as well.

I'm not trained the psychology so this is only my guess...

I think you're right SMS.

Men are logical creatures, and women are the emotional bearers. Not saying that men don't have any, but they don't seem to rule guys as much as women are by theirs.

Psycology is an interest of mine and it is interesting the differences between the sexes.

I'd agree with SMS - In my particular case I'm a creature of habit who jumps into the deep end more often than not and sinks or swims! I'm also a stickler (is that a word?) for doing things the right way the first time. This is why I'm finding Cohen's so easy. Eat this food and drink this water in this quantity at these times don't eat this and don't drink that. It takes all the thinking out of it and makes it easy to follow. I know what to eat and when to eat it and that's it, nothing else to worry about as my decisions are made for me! After a little while it just becomes habit and a part of my routine.

During this programme, there is no emotion, no justification, no motives, no thoughts, no regrets about it as I already went through all that when I made the decision to go with Cohens - that was then and this is my Given'r and Get'r done stage, just given'r and gettin'r done. Just another perspective! Good luck with your own Given'r and Get'r done stage!

In my experience women turn to food for emotional reasons men turn to alcohol and drugs for the same reason. However I have met quite a few male emotional eaters as well and Moony a while back was tempted to deviate because of an emotional issue...so not all black and white.

On to the physical changes other than weight loss...

I'm walking the way I used to, when I was carrying 23 extra kgs I had to start "hitching" my leg up from the hip when walking up a step because I could't trust my tricky right knee to take my weight. Now it's all straight ahead and easy. Hooray!

Default Grey Hair

Well, this one I wouldn't have believed if I hadn't seen it for myself!

This one is about my hubby. He's not doing Cohen's 100% but started eating the same foods as me, just in whatever quantities he likes. He's been really good for the most part, just not drinking the water, preferring the soft drink.

Anyway, before he started tagging along for the ride his hair was going quite grey and with the stress of work (we have our own business) and long hours I was literally watching him get greyer. But now, it's about 2 months since he started and he's 20 kg lighter!, his hair is losing the greys and it's becoming darker, like it used to be!! Yes, he does still have a few greys but NOTHING like what it was. There's a marked difference!!

I can't say if the same has happened for me as my hair colour comes from a bottle but I'm amazed at the change in colour of hubby's hair!

I'm sure it's diet related as nothing else has changed, work is still stressful and hours are still long .......

Anyway, it would be nice to know if anyone else has found this as a "side effect" of the Cohen's diet.

Louise

Thumbs up Some of the things that Dr. Cohen's Diet has done for me!

Hi everyone,

Hopefully this will inspire a newbie on the Cohen's Diet, Yes it is tough at first but once you get in the swing of things, it really is a definite lifestyle change and one that you conquered when you stick with it.

I started out at 110 kilos back in October of 2006 and lost 26 kilos and then emotional eating took over and I gained it all back to 105 kilos. January 1, 2008 I started the journey again and now I am around 62 - 63 kilos ......

* I have saved my own life by losing the weight and added years to my life!

* I no longer require surgery or have severe pain for surgical hernia's from botched surgeries or was it my own fault because I ate all the time, now I am able to manage them 100% and I was in alot of horrific pain evidently from the fat & twisted guts & now I'm not, just a hiccup every now and then but nothing that I can't live with.

* I feel so much better about myself and I am at peace with me and for once in my life I love myself which is the most important thing!

* People actually take double takes when they see me now because they try to figure out if they know me or not!

* No More blood pressure medication that I took for bloody 10 years, I don't need it!

* My cholesterol medication has been reduced in half & my doctor is pleased with my health which has improved 100%. (family history of high cholesterol & father had stroke @ 60yrs., all contributing factors to her precautions with keeping me on it, otherwise I would be off it now)

* I feel better than I have in over 20+ years physically and mentally, I feel that I have a whole new lease on life!

******& best of all I finally have learned HOW TO EAT HEALTHY for the first time in my life, after the initial shock of reduced amts. of food, better food choices I eat to live, not live to eat!

Thank you everyone for being here so that I could share this!

Have a Happy Cohen's Day!

Jooz

Well guys i actually have a bad change - everything else great but a warning.
Since losing weight i can now cross my legs when sitting and i do it all the time!!! So guess what - i have given myself a slight foot drop - damage from crossing my legs ....lol
I should have known better - i''m a nurse.
Oh well - being thin makes it all worth while.

Smile IBS Just about GONE!!!

I have posted in the IBS thread but I thought I'd just drop a note here to say that my IBS, which I have had severely for 4 years now, has eased to the point that I'd say I feel like I dont even have it now. Its a great feeling!! It can only get better from here, I can't even begin to imagine how great my stomach will feel once I've shed my last 12 kilos.
Yayeee!!! No more pain!!!

PS., I am more regular on this diet than I was pre-cohen. Yay!!!

Hi everyone, AJ has just prompted me to put an entry in this thread. It looks like the thread hasn't been used for a while so lets get it started again.

Well, I have 50kgs to lose and have been on Cohen's for 5 weeks now. In that 5 weeks, not only have I lost 9.8kgs and 43cm, BUT Cohen's has also:

  • stopped my snoring
  • no more acid reflux (would wake up choking and without breath)
  • given me a smaller head - go figure... but my sunglasses keep falling off
  • given me healthy fingernails
  • and most importantly, changed my blood pressure from 198/137 to 115/75

I'm sure you all have great stories to tell as well.

Have a great rest of the weekend,
NBS xx

Living in the hot tropics, I used to perspire very easily, even in air-conditioned rooms! I use packets of tissues everyday to clear off those perspiration...
Now I can even sleep through the night without switching on the electric fan or air-conditioner. Save some bucks off the bills in a way?!

Wow, that's is a HUGE change in just 5 weeks !! Are you noticing the difference in some way (at a physical level?) With a change that big, you must be feeling quite "different"...... Less "rosatia" (spelling?), less or no palpitations? Dunno - but you would....

Koh,

Yes, I do notice a difference, my breathing is more controlled and I am not out of breath as easy. It's amazing that such a change can happen after just 10kgs. Maybe the moment I hit 100kgs the health started going downhill and now I am under it's becoming more in control - who knows.

Basically, I feel a whole lot better and sleep really well. Another thing I have noticed is how many dreams I have in a night.

Sweet dreams everyone, NBS xx

Default My changes

It's interesting reading all these comments about the physical changes and I guess I'm lucky in that I didn't have anything like asthma or PCOS etc etc. I knew I needed to lose weight for my overall health etc but hadn't really thought about how I would feel.

So......for me (after losing almost 20kg) I have suddenly found myself with so much energy I sometimes don't know what to do with it. As a keen gardener this means that I can work outside doing all sorts of quite heavy work for anything up to 8 hours where previously I could only last about two to three hours.

I have also restarted my morning walks with my 6ft 2 inch husband and dogs and can scamper along quite easily - even up hills.

On the downside, I seem to feel the cold a lot more than previously. Not so much fat to keep my warm!

Also, I am spending too much money on clothes. It's tricky when you're in the middle of losing. Everything is too big but you know that whatever you buy will also end up too big. I have resorted to ebay and that seems to be working well.

I have energy but no strength. I went sailing on the weekend and couldnt grind the winch like I used to. I was very disappointed that I needed to ask the boys for help as I have never had to do this. I am now in the domain of the skinny sailing girls who need help. When I am on maintenance I will have to start some strength training so that I can still keep up with them without weighing more than them!!

this however is a small price to pay for being able to fit into clothes that I havent been able to in a long time and making room in my cupboard for more new and girlie clothes. I bought myself a size 10 wet weather jacket for the winter sailing series so I have to get there to wear it. I cant wait.

I have found this program to be expensive- and no I am not talking about the cost of joining. I am talking about the fact that I go into the clothes shops and suddenly all these small lovely clothes are fitting and looking great so that I just HAVE to buy them!!!!!!

and did I say that I love cohens - thank you cohens!!
