Hi AJ

You are doing great.

Yep that water is hard work and the toilet is your best friend. I'm thinking of decorating the toilet at work as I'm in there so much!!!

Keep up the good work.

Irene

You are so lucky to have 8 crackers .... I can only have 5. And I really ENJOY every crumb. Don't think I will be bothered with bread when I finish Cohens (unless it is something special) cause crackers are so much nicer. Glad to hear that you didn;t suffer the migraines etc that I did when I started. You're on your way.....

Annabelle,

It looks like you are off to a flying start. Keep up the good work. Let's show them young'uns what we're made of!

I wish I could drink water like that. I had to get up about every hour on the hour all night last night after drinking almost 4l of fluids. Bit inconvenient I have to say.

Day 4, Week 1
First, thanks to everyone for your encouraging comments. These first few days are quite difficult at times as hunger definitely kicks in, and also habit. There are times when I want to get something to eat, and I know it's habit rather that that I'm actually hungry. I kept busy yesterday afternoon, didn't eat anything between lunch and dinner, and didn't feel hungry.

Down another 400 gm today, a total of 3 kg. That's nearly half a stone in only 4 days. I spent so many years with stones that I stayed with them, am only now converting to kilos for my weight, have a spreadsheet that's doing conversions back to stones and pounds for me.

Further to yesterday afternoon, I went to see a client expecting to be away 1/2 an hour and was away for three hours (I should know better, it always happens). I managed to keep up my water, but didn't get my mid afternoon crispbreads or an afternoon fruit, then forgot crispbread with dinner, so didn't manage the 2 1/2 hours between serves, and also ate rather more than usual between dinner and bedtime to get it all in (necessary in the first 10 days).

Today will be a challenge. I'm working at the winery, it's going to be hot, and probably busy so I'm likely to be on my feet all day doing tastings rather than in the office. In addition, a former colleague of my husband's is meeting him (us) there around lunch time, the idea being that I will join them if I can. No chef today, so if they have lunch it will only be a cheese platter and maybe some terrine, but still a challenge for me to sit and not pick at it. And by the end of the day I'll really be looking for a glass of wine.

I've decided to add phsyllium to my diet, both for the roughage and hopefully to make me feel fuller between meals. I'm going to have some with my between meals crispbreads whenever I'm at home, took it with breakfast this morning.

Re the water, FotoHijinx and SMS. I don't think our kidneys process as well as we age. I'm not going to the toilet as much as I expected during the day, but am up every couple of hours during the night. My husband's noticing the lack of sleep too

Re crackers, jackie. I think they disagree with me. I have a pain about where my stomach is. I've had it in the past, had it checked out and there's nothing to worry about. I have suspected wheat products, and know that it disappears when I go onto a low carb diet. I normally don't eat wheat products. The occasional bread doesn't bring it on. I like the wheat based crispbreads, but might have to try sticking to Ryevita and see if that helps. It's a minor discomfort rather than serious pain.

Are you feeling excited, ahealthylife? I was as I waited to start.

AJ

Day 5, Week 1
I haven't changed my ticker this morning. In fact, I've gone up -- back to 102.2 where I was 2 days ago. However, I believe it is due to fluid retention as I didn't give in to any temptation yesterday. I even sat with my boss, who's a friend, at the end of the day for an hour as she was very 'down' and wanted company. She spent the hour eating cheese and biscuits and drinking wine, I drank water.

During the day I drank quite a lot of water, but didn't process it. I tend not to when I'm busy. I lost count of the number of times I got up during the night, 6 or 7 I think. I'm sure I'm still retaining some fluid from yesterday.

I arrived home about 8, very tired and with sore feet, then had a number of phone calls to deal with. I haven't had time to read anyone else's diary since Monday, and today's going to be another busy day. I have my week 1 Cohen's appointment today. Pity it's the day I've put weight back on.

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement.

AJ

I reckon that is the reason Santa says not to weigh daily, so we don't get discouraged when our bodies have up and down days.

Blow it off to you body going on strike for taking away the junk. When it realizes it's not getting any it will then cooperate and I'll bet the next weigh-in will show a big drop. It's too early to get discouraged, especially seeing you haven't had any real detox problems. (knock on wood, neither have I - Yet!) Hang in there!

Day 7, Week 1
I knew yesterday was simply retained fluid. I was disappointed not to see a drop, but in no way discouraged. Today I'm down 600 gm from two days ago, and 1.2 kg from yesterday. Another fairly busy day yesterday, but managed to stick to the diet okay. I was up multiple times during the night again, but there might be an advantage in that. I read on the Internet that Human Growth hormone (HGH) is secreted by the pituitary gland in the first hour of sleep, and after exercise. I'm having a lot of first hours of sleep in a night. Perhaps there's some advantage in having aging kidneys and bladder after all, SMS.

A couple of other things I've noticed. Usually I'd be looking for a glass of wine at 5. Apart from briefly about that time on Tuesday at the winery, I've not felt any desire for wine. That's got to be good for me. Secondly, and this is not just since starting this diet, I weigh more after I have a shower in the morning than before. Usually, it's only a couple of hundred grams. Naturally, I always take my 'before' weight. This morning there was a difference of 600 gm. I suspect my scales might have been a wee bit generous first thing this morning. They have 200 gm increments.

Hi Annabelle,

You are doing great in your first week but I am puzzled as to why you are weighing yourself before and after your shower each morning Don't be discouraged by the ups and downs on the scales, your clothes are a better guide to the losses. This is only the beginning to a new you. Little by little the 100 grams make up the kilos.

Have a good Cohen's loss day.

Day 1, Week 2

The end of the first week for me. No loss today, but I did think yesterday that the scales were generous. That's why I weighed again after the shower SOS, I don't usually do that. I have in the past for similar reasons, but the after shower weight is always higher. I should know by now.

I lost 3.6 kg in the first week. I'm very pleased with that. I took my measurements today; a total of 6 cm of the main measurements, but nothing off my hips, the worst trouble spot for me. Maybe I'll notice something there next week. I'm not discouraged by it. I know that by the time I reach my target weight my body will have adjusted and the fat will have come off.

I'm interested to see what happens in the next week. I'm expecting the weight loss to slow down, it's always most in the first week.

Overall, I'm very happy with week 1.

AJ,

You had a very good 1st week.

Given a little time the cm's will come off the hip measurements as well.

It would sound like we may have similar body types. I have a Meso-Endomorphic body type which tends to give me a low centre of gravity especially with my short legs.

Sounds like you are on a roll girl. Keep it up!

Day 2, Week2

Discovered my bathroom scales aren't as accurate as I thought they were. I've had similar problems with previous scales, thought these ones were accurate. I'll stick with them for now. I've taken today's drop as 200 gms. Not much in two day, BUT today I can see results in the way my top fits over my hips. I did a quick check with the tape, and I'm down 1 cm on my hips and 1/2 cm around the waist from yesterday. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over the next week.

I've adjusted to the small portions of food. I'm now having difficulty in remembering to eat my 8 crispbreads and 3 fruits in a day. I'll cut some out after the 10 days are up. For most of the first week I never felt full. Now I do. I'm managing the water well too.

Thanks for the encouragement, jeannie77 and SMS. It helps a lot to receive messages of support. Yes, SMS, I certainly have a low centre of gravity, big hips and heavy legs, top and bottom. And, of course, the fat disappears from the top, where I wouldn't mind keeping a bit extra, first.
