Shell, wonderful comeback and the sad thing is it is so true. When we need help the most it isn't forthcoming, but the moment we do something for us everyone becomes an expert.

Hi all,

A simple quote - but so heartfelt, and so true - onya Hexi, this was so well said:-

Hi all,

This gem started with a rather sage, yet haunting, poem .... and went on from there. Here's a teaser (not the poem itself, but the thoughts that followed) .....

Quote:
So what does it really all mean? I guess it means that no one knows their destiny, unless they were to remain completely stagnant in which case nothing would ever change. If we never took a risk, we would never be open to experiences that shape who we become. If we never took a chance then how would we grow?

............... I think, for a long time, holding onto my weight was safe. There was very little 'risk' in this for me. The thing about being overweight is, that for me anyway, I never really let anyone in, and I never really let myself out. ........... Hide myself in fat and you wont see my pain because you'll never take the time to know me. Being fat did not make me vulnerable.

But now I have realised something, ........ I've realised I've done myself a HUGE injustice. I've let myself stagnate. And that's simply not ok anymore. I am worth more. ......... I thought I was ok, clearly I wasnt. I'm so glad and gratefull I took that first risk.

But wait, there's more - SO MUCH MORE !!! Wherever you saw "..........", I was editing out some seriously good stuff (just so that this teaser didn't become the whole post).

Click the link below to reveal the WHOLE STORY !!!
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...7&postcount=59

And, Trips, I was SO CLOSE to posting an earlier day of yours as a gem - but, you'd only just got here, and I didn't want to freak you out. But now, after 10 days, you're "one of us" - so you're fair game for "gems" from now on - OK? :P

Wow, it's the era of the new posters at the moment. Tonight, some words from Kay (Kay's Creation Diary) had me reaching for the gems thread:-

Quote:
I had a bit of an ephipany yesterday where I realised that the weight I carry is not me, it was something I took on board many years ago but really isn't mine. (long story) So therefore as it is not mine, I no longer need to hold onto it and I can let it go. This helped immensely as I can let go of an old belief that wasn't really mine.
Kay, that quote holds it all - intrigue, yet clarity, and a message for many I'm sure. Though you are one just starting out, my money is on you to finishing this in style !!! You sound so "together"

And thanks so much for this gem,

Koh

Hi all,

I've been on an "Easter sabbatical" - so haven't been around for the last 10 or so days. But "he's ba-a-a-c-c-k-k!" now - and THIS quote from Penny (Ropemaha) had me searching for the "gems" thread - see why:-

Quote:
there is a lot of evidence that people address emotional issues when they feel safe.....without sounding to simplistic, a good example of this is being a child in a domestic violence situation. victims of dv, particularly women, often attract and have families with dv perpetrators....the premise is this, if you arnt feeling safe, or if you are just reacting to the daily dramas of your life, emotionally your too busy to address underlying causes, so for someone to experience dv as a child and then live it as an adult may mean they havent ever been emotionally safe enough to address the real stuff....
its the same with weight issues or anything else really....its about making ourselves feel safe so we can go to the core....now when i say safe i dont just mean physically, i mean safe enough to not be judged, doubted, controlled or unsupported.....and this is where i think the key is with this forum....it really is a safe environment for us to purge our thoughts without risk of negative responses....
There was SO MUCH more - but to read it all, you'll need to click the link below:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=678

Read on afterward, (in their replies to her), and you'll see many others have already seen the worth in Penny's post - could that be you too? To do that, click the link - it shows Penny's post only - then go top right of the page, look for "Thread: Penny's Diary" - click on that and it opens the thread from Penny's post onward....

Thanks, Penny - applause for the post,

Koh

This one's for you, Asy - (I should re-phrase that) this one's FROM you Asy !!! To deviate, or not to deviate - THAT is the question !!

Quote:
I'm not strong. I'm not fantastic. There's nothing special. I just REALLY REALLY WANTED IT. I wanted to be healthy. I wanted to be fit. I wanted to... LIVE.

One other really odd thing I've noticed, not sure whether anyone else has, is that those who have the most to lose, who otherwise I'm sure people would have thought had less willpower than others, seem to do the best on this programme deviation wise. Why is that? Is it because we have been faced with our own mortality? Is it because we know that if we don't do it we'll die? Why does that not apply to the people who have lesser quantities to lose?
Ah, but that is just a sample. Asy was putting it all out there re deviations on Cohens - to read it all, click here:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138794#post138794

Asy, our benefactor, has laid it right out there. Some SERIOUSLY good points made there girl. YOU are a gem (I think we realised that WAY early on in this 'Gems" thread - and here you are again )

Hi AJ,

I'm almost certain this is not the first gem you've posted - but tonight, THIS one spoke to me:-

Your friend is still looking for the impossible -- an eating plan where s/he can lose weight but not give up eating in the same way as put the weight on. Been there many times, finally understood the reality.
What an insightful post - I'm sure BFG is already reaping the benefits - and I'm sure others reading will also benefit from it. You said it so well,

Hugs,

Hi all,

Our Debs is back with a vengeance - she had done it tough, trying to "bust through" some ingrained road-blocks - then tonight, after a little help from her friends, she is seriously on track (and she tells it so well - but nothing new there - she always did):-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=141

And if you are a new chum, and want an insight into the journey, the pitfalls, the triumphs, the joy - take the time to read Debs Diary in its entirety. She tells it so well, whether good news or bad, and gives some great tips along the way.

You're a true blue gem, Debs

Girl, YOU are rocking !! And, when you speak, it is ALWAYS worth a listen. Yup, it's Debs again - and laying her thoughts about FEAR right out there. Here's a teaser:-

Quote:

I want to finish this post with a quote...I don't know who said it...but I want to remember it...

FEAR GIVES SMALL THINGS BIG SHADOWS...

From yesterday, I will be cultivating some new skills. I will be saying more of what I really think and feel and trusting that my friends will still love and respect me for it...and to be perfectly honest, if they don't then I don't need them as my friends...

It's still going to take a while to get this thought through properly and right in my brain.... but here's my first step...

I don't accept that I am overweight.... I don't hate myself for it...and I am not a failure because of it...and I can't change the fact that I had a huge starting weight...
Some SERIOUSLY GOOD STUFF right there, but SO MUCH more in her diary. Go check it out..... This little gem is worth a look - well, go on, click the link !! :P

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=152

Looking forward to more, Debs - and we can always rely on you to give it, truthfully, pointedly, no-holds-barred, and completely !! Keep 'em coming you little champ - your introspection I'm sure will be instrumental in helping many others,

Hugs,

Koh

Hi all,

ConnieK has been "doing it tough" with the omni-present PLATEAU !! But wait, she's found her own answer!!

Quote:
I need to smile despite the fact that I am frustrated - it WILL all come - patience is NOT one of my virtues! ( I have always been better at sins than virtues ).

But this is one thing I cannot rush – I need to focus on getting a warm fuzzy feeling from something other than the scales .... really need to get my head in the step back a bit space or I'll go nuts!

So Connie now has her own list of "warm fuzzies" to help her get through. See her diary if you need some ideas:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=351

And Connie, it's a gem of a post - I'm sure your introspection will help many others - onya girl

Wow - is THIS a gem !!! Hexi has been amazed by some of the UNEXPECTED benefits of doing Cohens.... (And she sounds like one VERY happy lady....)

Quote:
It has helped me with confidence in asking for what I want. It has helped me to prioritise my needs as well as my childrens instead of being a doormat. I am finding the real me...and it FEELS BLOODY FANTASTIC - life's good and I would say probably 100% better than when I started in November @ 95 kilos.

This is the thing that amazes me - I never thought I would be working through and addressing conflict as I have I always thought it was only about fixing my weight/body image. I never really accepted that I had a problem..but if I can do this I can DO anything. Bring on the world
Wow, Hexi - in retrospect, what wouldn't you have paid to do Cohens if you'd known that THIS was part of the deal??? Sounds to me like you got a BARGAIN when you paid your $$ for your plan.

Onya, girl - you rock !!!

Now THIS is a gem with a difference !! Lily (Garden Goddess) has advice for dealing with intractable visitors

Quote:
I have a device that I use in all communications with my mother.
It's called an i-pod.
You load Guns and Roses onto it and when she rings the doorbell you ram it into your earholes and turn it up full blast....
Then you assume a gormless , vacant , benign smile and periodically nod your head like a 'special person'. The function of this gesture is to replicate agreement with whatever monotonous diatribe she is discoursing.
This behaviour should persist until a loud noise is heard indicating her departure , in disgust , via the front door.
It is now safe to remove your i-pod and resume functional living.
Trusting these instructions are of some use.
Hehe - nothing like a "gem that puts a smile on your face" eh? Great work, Lily - keep it up

Wow !!! Wow !!! Wow !!! Gotta catch my breath here...

Read YET ANOTHER gem from this poster - I haven't been too prolific here in "gems", otherwise it could have become her WHOLE DIARY !!

Then it struck me - her whole diary (indeed, every post she makes) is a gem !! So I posted this in reply to her "Wow" post:-

Quote:
I was tempted to put this in "gems" - but then, I thought better - henceforth, everybody, the gems thread now starts HERE :-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4028
And, in case you missed it, THIS was that "Wow" post:-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=144575#post144575

Thank you SO much for sharing and caring as you do, Faithy. Who knows how many hundreds of people have already been beneficiaries of the goodness you give to us all right here. YOU are a gem, girl - of infinite value !!

I'm sure I've said it before, but don't ever change, hey?

Koh

PS for new readers - in case you wonder why recent posts (that you may have already read !!) are posted here, "it's for those that come after!" Otherwise HOW else would they "find" these gems? (Takes a LONG time to read all of the diaries today - had you noticed?)

Hi all,

Every now and then, another "Wow!!" pops up - unfortunately, I don't get to record them all - but I hope those I do post in "Gems" give you the same warm feelng that I get on reading them, then presenting them here.

Tonight, the gem came from a new reader who is just cranking !!! Could be next year's "Slimmer of the Year" right here (who knows?)

All I DO know is that Barb's comment SHOUTED at me tonight, so I had to offer it to all right here:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=146430#post146430

Any new reader who may be having ANY doubts (the old "too good to be true" thing - you know....) DO check out Barb's words.

Onya Barb - keep on cranking, girl - you are ACEING this journey and, you are a gem....

Hi all,

There's no gem like a heart-felt gem - even if it comes as a warning, it's still heartfelt (and it shines because of that).

This poster is no stranger to "gems" - and I've no doubt that will continue into the future.

The gem presented today talks specifically to "those struggling with the Cohen plan" (in the later part of her post) - so, if that's YOU, do click and read the help and hope presented for you by one of our resident gems..... "Debs"

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=190

Onya, Debs - you are a star !!! And do keep on helping others in your own unique way - you say it so well, girl

Hugs,

Koh

Well, THIS is a first !!! A "gem" from out of left field !!!

What do I mean? Well, this post doesn't directly relate to "weight-loss" or this journey per se, but the truths presented are UNIVERSAL !!! (And SO well written too - hats off to you, SMS !!!)

If every one of you doesn't find SOMETHING of value in this post, I'll eat Irene's NEW pair of ugg boots too (in joke :P )

100% SMS !!! What a gem,

Koh
