Hi all,

This gem started with a rather sage, yet haunting, poem .... and went on from there. Here's a teaser (not the poem itself, but the thoughts that followed) .....

So what does it really all mean? I guess it means that no one knows their destiny, unless they were to remain completely stagnant in which case nothing would ever change. If we never took a risk, we would never be open to experiences that shape who we become. If we never took a chance then how would we grow?

............... I think, for a long time, holding onto my weight was safe. There was very little 'risk' in this for me. The thing about being overweight is, that for me anyway, I never really let anyone in, and I never really let myself out. ........... Hide myself in fat and you wont see my pain because you'll never take the time to know me. Being fat did not make me vulnerable.

But now I have realised something, ........ I've realised I've done myself a HUGE injustice. I've let myself stagnate. And that's simply not ok anymore. I am worth more. ......... I thought I was ok, clearly I wasnt. I'm so glad and gratefull I took that first risk.

But wait, there's more - SO MUCH MORE !!! Wherever you saw "..........", I was editing out some seriously good stuff (just so that this teaser didn't become the whole post).

Wow, it's the era of the new posters at the moment. Tonight, some words from Kay (Kay's Creation Diary) had me reaching for the gems thread:-

I had a bit of an ephipany yesterday where I realised that the weight I carry is not me, it was something I took on board many years ago but really isn't mine. (long story) So therefore as it is not mine, I no longer need to hold onto it and I can let it go. This helped immensely as I can let go of an old belief that wasn't really mine.

Kay, that quote holds it all - intrigue, yet clarity, and a message for many I'm sure. Though you are one just starting out, my money is on you to finishing this in style !!! You sound so "together"

I've been on an "Easter sabbatical" - so haven't been around for the last 10 or so days. But "he's ba-a-a-c-c-k-k!" now - and THIS quote from Penny (Ropemaha) had me searching for the "gems" thread - see why:-

there is a lot of evidence that people address emotional issues when they feel safe.....without sounding to simplistic, a good example of this is being a child in a domestic violence situation. victims of dv, particularly women, often attract and have families with dv perpetrators....the premise is this, if you arnt feeling safe, or if you are just reacting to the daily dramas of your life, emotionally your too busy to address underlying causes, so for someone to experience dv as a child and then live it as an adult may mean they havent ever been emotionally safe enough to address the real stuff....
its the same with weight issues or anything else really....its about making ourselves feel safe so we can go to the core....now when i say safe i dont just mean physically, i mean safe enough to not be judged, doubted, controlled or unsupported.....and this is where i think the key is with this forum....it really is a safe environment for us to purge our thoughts without risk of negative responses....

This one's for you, Asy - (I should re-phrase that) this one's FROM you Asy !!! To deviate, or not to deviate - THAT is the question !!

I'm not strong. I'm not fantastic. There's nothing special. I just REALLY REALLY WANTED IT. I wanted to be healthy. I wanted to be fit. I wanted to... LIVE.

One other really odd thing I've noticed, not sure whether anyone else has, is that those who have the most to lose, who otherwise I'm sure people would have thought had less willpower than others, seem to do the best on this programme deviation wise. Why is that? Is it because we have been faced with our own mortality? Is it because we know that if we don't do it we'll die? Why does that not apply to the people who have lesser quantities to lose?

Hi all,

ConnieK has been "doing it tough" with the omni-present PLATEAU !! But wait, she's found her own answer!!

I need to smile despite the fact that I am frustrated - it WILL all come - patience is NOT one of my virtues! ( I have always been better at sins than virtues ).

But this is one thing I cannot rush – I need to focus on getting a warm fuzzy feeling from something other than the scales .... really need to get my head in the step back a bit space or I'll go nuts!

Wow - is THIS a gem !!! Hexi has been amazed by some of the UNEXPECTED benefits of doing Cohens.... (And she sounds like one VERY happy lady....)

It has helped me with confidence in asking for what I want. It has helped me to prioritise my needs as well as my childrens instead of being a doormat. I am finding the real me...and it FEELS BLOODY FANTASTIC - life's good and I would say probably 100% better than when I started in November @ 95 kilos.

This is the thing that amazes me - I never thought I would be working through and addressing conflict as I have I always thought it was only about fixing my weight/body image. I never really accepted that I had a problem..but if I can do this I can DO anything. Bring on the world

Wow, Hexi - in retrospect, what wouldn't you have paid to do Cohens if you'd known that THIS was part of the deal??? Sounds to me like you got a BARGAIN when you paid your $$ for your plan.

Now THIS is a gem with a difference !! Lily (Garden Goddess) has advice for dealing with intractable visitors

I have a device that I use in all communications with my mother.
It's called an i-pod.
You load Guns and Roses onto it and when she rings the doorbell you ram it into your earholes and turn it up full blast....
Then you assume a gormless , vacant , benign smile and periodically nod your head like a 'special person'. The function of this gesture is to replicate agreement with whatever monotonous diatribe she is discoursing.
This behaviour should persist until a loud noise is heard indicating her departure , in disgust , via the front door.
It is now safe to remove your i-pod and resume functional living.
Trusting these instructions are of some use.
