Funny how a few well-chosen words can "smack you between the eyes"...
And, tonight, that is EXACTLY what happened - to provide this gem :-

Quote:
I always think it's the times I really dont want to post that are the times when I most need to!
It's a simple message, but how PROFOUND are the thoughts that spring from it?

Thank you, Louise41 - helluva good post !!

Gems are where you find them.... sometimes unexpected, but, there they are, and IMPOSSIBLE to ignore. Like this one.....

Aww, that is GOLD !!!

Thanks so much for that one, Alli...

Tonight is a VERY SPECIAL night !! Tonight, I managed to put two and two together - and it equalled FOUR !!

I'd seen a VERY supportive post in the New Members area from one who had succeeded on Cohens over three years ago. But wait, there's more....

This lass expounded much re Cohens - like this:-
Quote:
I completed Cohen's in December , 2007 having lost 30 kg. I have managed to keep 27 kg off.. just could not manage to stay at my goal for more than a month. It's the best thing I have ever done. The most positive experience of my life. I too, had tried EVERYTHING , Potions, shakes , injections , pills , pre prepared meals , WWatchers Jenny Craig...low carb, no carb, low GI..I had been overweight since the age of 11 ...it took til I was 51 years old to get to Cohens....finally something that worked. Cohen's is the only programme I have ever been on , that when adhered to delivered on all its promises. I never slept or felt better in my entire life...do not be worried be excited.....it is all good from here on...Good luck and hang in there ..you just wait!!!
Can't argue with those thoughts, eh? Seems Catie might have not been able to "settle" at goal, so has had to settle for goal +3Kg - tough problem - perhaps the body has spoken. But that's not the point...

The point is that "Life can/will go on" - and, to see how well, read the words (once again) of one that graced these very pages early in 2008 !!
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=128600#post128600

Earlier in "Gems", I'd made the comment "when this lady posts, you sure better LISTEN" (or words like that...) Never truer today !!!

And, Catie, welcome back - I'm not sure to what we owe the pleasure, but a very real pleasure it is to have you with us once again...

Hi all,

Today, I spied a post that seemed to me can provide a LOT of "light-bulb" moments for others. It also neatly dovetails with the previous gem.

Usually, I endeavour to highlight points that "did it" for me - but, with THIS one, I'm going to simply present the link, and have YOU decide just which of the many gems therein most relate to you.

I'm sure many others will see themselves in her words, and gain for themselves the knowledge and hope that FB has found and shared in here:-

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=323818#post323818

The main thrust seems to be FB finding out for herself how to "let go, and just be" (my words) while on the program. If that sounds useful to you, go check out the link

And Flutterby, you little gem - you go girl !! Thank for you for such a VERY useful post (your final comment is "so far from the truth" though - norty norty.....)

Some seriously good learning going on for this young lady !! And she shares her success SO well ......

It details her success in winning against her "bad thoughts" that were telling her she should EAT MORE !! She thought about it, then said "OK!" Wait, I'll let RC tell you herself :-
Quote:
You start to wonder if you are going to make it - which is absurd really because we have so many days where we KNOW that we are going to release this weight all thanks to this great program. I laughed about your back and forth dialogue about deviating - had one of those the other day..

Mine went along the lines of

Okay, I give you permission to deviate ....
Then, further down......
Quote:
hang on - i dont feel like deviating now

DISASTER AVERTED!!!
Click the link to discover HOW she won, and there is SO much more there too - RC "speaks" so well, along with a sense of humour that will brighten your day too.
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=332639#post332639

Oh, and one other thing - in case you don't recognise "RC", it is because to me, at least, RT (Revamped Tramp) is a Revamped Champ !! And, I like to keep you all guessing too - had you noticed? Bad puppy....

Hi all,

Well, in this bl__dy cold weather, this particular puppy was too busy curled up in a warm corner to add any more to "gems" for SO long.... Sorry....

Then, THIS post came by and shook me out of my torpor. Its impact can't be ignored, and what a marvellous "first day of the rest of my life" post it is.

There is so much in Mary's post (as she begins Maintenance) that got my attention - try this, for one:-
Quote:
Today I found it interesting that now I am able to choose what I eat or dont eat that the fast food ads which have driven me crazy the past 176 days no longer have any power over me.
...and....
Quote:
Tonight I feel like I am walking on air
I wonder if I am "down-grading" it by calling it a gem - seems to me it is more like GOLD !!!

WHAT a fillip for Cohens she gives too - see her comparison of the results between "an earlier diet" and "Cohens" - it'll knock your socks off too !!!

Check it out for yourself here:-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=337427#post337427

And Mary, Thank you for sharing your immense joy with us all - I felt it with you too, and, slim lady, I have a huge smile on my face for YOU today !!!

Awesome !!!

Hugs,
Koh

Hehe - I read this one last night, and mentally noted "This is a GEM"....

I fight myself at times - like "Everyone's already read it tonight - they don't want to read it again.." True....

But then, this thread was formed to offer hope and inspiration from the words of our members. Those yet to read this might not join until next month...

So, sorry if I am including a gem that you read last night. I'm sure you will agree that Kristine's post should form part of this thread, to inspire others following (or you, if you want to have an uplifting day in a few months time - or even over the weekend)

Which post? THIS one :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12849

Kristine, it is SO good to have you in NewYou once more, sharing and caring as you do

Rock on darl,
Koh

I personally like Hexi's signature today, which says this :-
Mind~body~spirit approach is my winning formula

And the post I want to highlight tonight fits with that mantra. Her thoughts relate directly to those who have shed really large amounts of weight, but is still well worth reading for everyone doing Cohens.

It's all to do with that old adage (from a REALLY early gem) that the Cohen journey is 10% about losing weight, and 90% about the mental (and/or spiritual?) side of things.

Hexi explains it really well :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=343287#post343287

Top post, wee girl !! You are such a gem

Jeez, just as well I "revisit" places on here... it just happens (or maybe the Universe is having a say ) Suffice to say, tonight I happened on this one - and it is WELL WORTH your time to read it :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=338470#post338470

Many of you have been inspired by Greeni over the last few months - and, re her journey, THAT post just nails it for me !!

I am SO glad I revisited it tonight, and was prompted to add it here, where it deserves to be,

Koh

PS A later thought struck me - Greeni added words re "keeping herself safe" - and it is SO valid - you are of no use to anybody if you are not safe (and maybe even a liability....)

I just re-discovered the post that entered my mind from a few years back. The subject was about "Do you fit your oxygen mask first in an aeroplane emergency?" Why not? One girl had said "No way - kids first" - hmmmm :-

Well, well, well !! I may be indirectly posting "a clinic's view" of what's important here, but it strikes me they have got it right - so, why not? It's still a gem !!

These words are courtesy of Chillichic (Gaylene) who received the words from her clinic - and, don't they make sense? Here's a little teaser :-
Quote:
Of course, your Program is about permanent lifestyle changes, not just weight loss. You need to understand that you have a life-long condition which can be controlled in much the same way as many people manage allergies by eating sensibly. There is still much to learn about which foods are more likely to trigger the ‘Fat Factory’ back into action; which foods are best to begin each day with; which kinds of desserts are less likely to affect your weight than others and much more. All this information is part of your lifestyle Program and you will need it if you are to stay slim for life.
Of course, there is more - much more - but you need to "work" for it by clicking on the link below :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=346556#post346556

And, thank you Gaylene, for sharing such IMPORTANT information !! I specially liked their reference to "the Danger Zone". Seems the Cohens zone keeps you safe for a long time - until... along comes Danger Zone.

Top post, Gaylene,

Koh

This place changes so much (for the good) whenever Kristine.. is around !!

Today I spied a post from her that certainly "highlighted the truth" - both the good and the bad.

No punches pulled, but shared with love anyway, and SO TRUE

Here's a teaser :-
Quote:

Then, imagine how difficult life would be. Restricted eating, medication every day, perhaps infections or even gangrene in your toes. A really difficult situation for the rest of your life.

You have come across Cohen’s and have been accepted for the program. This indicates that although you are seriously obese, you are in good health.

At this point you should be joyous and embrace the program with both hands. In good health! How wonderful is that!
Those last two paragraphs are SO GOOD, I had to highlight parts of them.

But wait, there's more... Here's the link to Kristine's complete post :-

Hi Koh,
What would we do without you on this forum, you always pick up the gems we may have missed, only need to be off the forum for a few days.
This post by Kristine really makes you think about so many aspects of our weight loss journey, does not matter where you are in that journey, it is a work in progress for the rest of our lives and always something to learn along the way.
The health issues that Kristine brings to the fore we can sometimes forget when we are feeling so well from the weight we have already lost, good to remember how it was, how hard it used to be carrying all of that extra weight around on our bodies that were never designed to be so burdened.
Thank You Kristine for writing this and Koh for bringing it to our attention again.
Cheers Marg (MaggieLyn)

Default The power of a word !!!

I love finding gems - and yep, another one popped up today.

Just how important can words be? Sometimes it can come down to ONE WORD !! Which word? Well, on Plan, "No!" can be a very useful one.

But, now and then, the wheels fall off, and it can be a struggle to "get back on the Bus". Can one word help with this?

Kristine.. thinks so - and she shared it with one who was close to goal, but had fallen and was struggling to get up again. And what was this powerful word?

Well, you'll have to work for it :-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=207655#post207655

And Kristine, yet another powerful post from you - awesome stuff, lovely lady !!
