Aeroplane Food & Travel
We are flying from SA to NYork in 4 weeks- about a 23 hour (travel from door to door). I generally take food with me on short flights but this time it is 5 of us travelling and I am going to be hands full with the two smaller kids. So I was wondering if I should order diabetic meals but then it probably comes with pasta??? Any advice of what I should order that comes closest to our Cohen meals. I could pack my food too (as a last resort) but If I don't have to carry all that and there was an option what have any of you experienced as the best option. Opinions? |

I flew for business and pre-ordered a diabetic meal or a gluten free one. It's pot luck really and depends on the airline and what 'class' you're traveling.
New York New York! Look out here comes Tes!!!!!!! Hugs Andie

Re: Aeroplane Food & Travel
Hi Tes,
Just wondering how you did with the traveling as I'm a Cohen newbie and on 16th September I travel from Cape Town to Paris for 8 days on an incentive trip. The intinerary is crazy busy with breakfast lunch and supper all at restaurants and cocktails almost every night. Please help , the only thing I can probably pack in is my crackers? We traveling in a group of about 20 so it doesn't make it any easier. Should I inform the airlines and switch to gluten free ? Help !! |

OMG Shaz! What an incentive! You have to tell us all about the trip. Please post regularly whilst you're away. I've been to Paris but only as a child would love to go back as an adult. Am so excited for you. The food and wine will be exquisite. I love their bread and butter and chocolate. There is nothing else like it in the world. Oh to be you on a few days. Take care beautiful one. Enjoy your time.
Hugs Andie 😉

Re: Aeroplane Food & Travel
Hi Sharyn welcome to the group. I cant say i was too successful with the airline meals. I ordered diabetic meals so i got low fat natural yoghurt and fruit not on plan fruit though. The main meal was always fish and the fish was always hard as rocks and gross. I would suggest you try gluten free and put in that you are allergic to fish this way you might get beef and chicken with veges. If there is sauce just scrape it off - really its so small a meal.
that's my observation on this front. I was in france for three weeks last july all i can say is DO NOT visit a boulangerie. Get yoghurts and eat egg and fruit. The wine is is cheap- in fact it was more expensive to drink a coke zero or softdrink than to drink booze!! If you are on an incentive trip -which sounds AMAZING - congrats - then hopefully cost isn't too much of an issue. The cocktails unfortunately are going to be a challenge you have to just decide you either have them or not and if you do try to get them to do it with diet soda and spirits which is probably less than wine which is lots of carbs and sugar! As far as meals go well the less carbs fat and sugar the better so salads and steak or fish. You can take your provitas so that and some fruit will cover you for snacks. Look forward to hearing all about your lovely trip. Good luck👯 |

Re: Aeroplane Food & Travel
Oh and Sharyn i read somewhere that people consume six times their normal calorie intake while waiting in airports and flying so beware of taking snacks on the plane amd having meals in the airport then on the flights too. Drink all your water plus more its so hot you will probably need more. I always struggle with water so i try to buy two litre bottles every day this way i can be aware of how much i still need to take in.
