Default Trouble with olive oil spray

Hi All

Recently I switched from Canola Oil spray to Olive oil spray as I read in Busybee's diary that her new plan did not state canola oil spray, and instead only had Olive Oil spray.

I use a ceramic non stick pan for my "pan frying" (and it is going to be so exciting in refeed to move from the 20cm pan to the 25cm pan when my portions increase).....one of my fave breakfasts is the zuchinni hashbrown.

Here is my problem. When I use canola oil, I can cook my hashbrown on one side, slide it onto my plate and flip it over to cook the other side. I tried making it using olive oil spray this morning and half the hashbrown stuck to the bottom of the pan! I still managed to salvage it, but I had a lot of carbon, and lost some of my breakfast to the pan.

Has anyone had this problem - foods sticking with olive oil compared to canola oil? Does anyone have any tips (I don't want to overuse the olive oil spray to stop things sticking) they could offer? Should I just use regular olive oil instead of the spray?

Please help? I don't want to crucify my favourite breakfast every time!

Thanks in Advance!
M

Hmm, this is why I don't like pan frying food! haha. It always sticks to the non-stick pan!! I mostly use olive oil spray and yeh maybe that's been my issue all along! I use it very sparingly.

Hope someone can help!!

hahaha, YES McB!!!! Not only will it be super handy in maintenance... Like really REALLY handy it's just the cutest kitchen companion. I use it for everything! It's a mini-oven that also fries! What's not to love?!!!

Meanwhile, I had an airfryer mishap

Burnt myself!!!! I have a wound on the side of my hand... nice and weepy and blistery. Okay, it's tiny but MY GOD it hurt!

I am wearing a dressing on it because I keep knocking it which hurts (like as I'm going into my bag) and I don't want that blister to pop!!

Ewwww, ouchie!

I am tempted, but I might have to save up for a month (and not spend it all on clothes) before I feel like I can justify the expense (even though there is one on trademe right now - $30 or something crazy for shipping though).

Will check my lotto ticket on Sunday .

Ladies, what is an air fryer? I don't think I have ever seen one here in the US and I consider myself a Kitchen Electrics Geek.

Something like this.....

http://www.usa.philips.com/c/airfrye...bcat_asc_group
Hope that link works - otherwise just google search phillips airfryer....they sound wonderful and magical. A few people on here have them and rave about them.

hehe, I am in love with mine. hahaha

I really use it as a mini-oven right now, but it does crisp things up beautifully. I think the best advantage will come in maintenance.

Hey Mcb, just an idea how about sparing the actual food lightly on both sides instead of the pan, keeping in mined to use the same amount and not more (if more than one set them side by side making a filled circle and quickly spray it to use the space and not end up spraying allot).

Question with the Airfryer too, I had my food stuck in the bottom of the basket (cheese especially) still can't get ride of it even after soaking it!). Do you guys use plates to put everything in when using the Airfryer? Do you use maybe aluminium foil? I read that it can stop the airflow within the fryer.

I'm confused coz I love my fryer

Hey Witty!

I a) don't use the basket for my meals... and b) use a little ceramic dish- Yep no airflow, but still delish and moist! And it cooks super fast!

The first time I used it, I did use foil with my chicken and it was fab! But I find using a dish is just easier and cleaner.

Is your gefu the hand held one or the one with the handle on the top and the bowl at the bottom

McBell I'm going out on a limb here and saying this is a newly proven theory... But I never had any problem with my nonstick pans until I used Olive oil spray.. Everything sticks now ! AAAaarrgggh!
I haven't bothered too much then someone bumped the thread up the other day and I realised it exactly my problem with my pans lately!

Very interesting to hear that someone else is experiencing the same problem Relles....I only switched from canola to olive as I had heard canola had been dropped from the approved list with someone's new programme....but just had to switch back.

apparently you shouldnt use spray oil on nonstick pans "ScanPan told me off". I use the bottle that you put oil in pump it and then it sprays. Works well.
I'm very interested in this Air Fryer, I've never seen one in action, just on the shelf. Off to google it now
