Default How Do You Deviate? If Ever? POLL

I know there is only a small percentage of us who NEVER deviate, just wondering what the majority of us do?
I'm certainly NOT condoning deviating, we all know it's best to NEVER do it, but the fact is ALOT of us do! Lets just see how many huh?

HI

I have NEVER deviated - sounds good eh !!

Wish it wasnt just my 4th day though. I sure hope I can say the same thing on my 40th day.

Right now I feel very strong, I love reading the forum even though I have not yet created a diary. Have taken so much from your posts and I am in awe of the huge weights some of you have lost.
I need to lose 18kg, got a shock to be told it was that much. At age 55 I know its not going to be as easy as some of you younger girls, but Im going to give it my best shot.

DO NOT DEVIATE, DO NOT DEVIATE, DO NOT DEVIATE -

When I was on the programme originally, I deviated with the shredded mozzarella cheese and also with the paradise Lites crackers that were originally included in the crackers until Paradise changed the recipe and I was unaware that they were no longer allowed. Other than that it was only in amounts if we went out for lunch or dinner. To my mind I stayed true to the programme to the best of my knowledge for the 34 weeks that it took to lose the 47+kgs from start to refeed. .

I was thinking about this topic myself today, sort of.
It's SO EASY to deviate on Cohen's, having a piece of broccoli is a deviation, but so is a tim-tam.
And if people were going to knowingly deviate I bet I know what people would rather deviate with, and it ain't the green stuff.
I'd love some chicken and broccoli in soy sauce right now, but I shall not deviate.
My deviation was with Cohen's foods, when I ate 2 crispbread with cheese, cos i was starving, and dinner was still 2 hours away.

4 weeks in and no derivation's other than that I accidentally bought the wholemeal saladas but that was unintentional.

If I were to intentionally deviate it would big a huge cappuccino. Still missing that old friend...

I have been known to toss an extra mushroom in on occasions or a little bit more veggie than i should. but sometimes i just need something extra. I only do it with the veggies and its only occassionally so i dont feel so bad. I was using the wrong curry powder for a while as well, but that was unintentional. I use to dream about deviating and wake up horrified thinking i had, but thats settled down now as well...lol
I am a smoker and i feel like that "1" deviation will lead to a second, then a third....etc, just like that "1" smoke ends up being a full on smoker again with time. So i am really careful to stick to the plan as closely as possible.

I deviated several times- I found the start really hard- then realised I actually had deep emotional eating problems that had to be dealt with. So although it IS really bad to deviate- the guilt that came with it and trying to understand why I would do it gave me anew understanding of deep underlying issues I have and that need to be dealt with. Without deviating I may not have ever figured this out and NOW I WANT to be deviation free! And I want to heal my mind/emotions.

When I deviated it was almost always unintentional.
Like:
I don't want to throw out that 1 little slice of mango or even just buying smallish mangoes and eating the whole lot.. waste not want not and all.. Little did I know that it made me extremely hungry so I paid for that waste not.. and when I actually weighted that so called little mango it took me over the allowable weight.

then I too used the wrong curry powder for a while there...

I would also try and get the biggest apples I could, and they were massive. But I was once told and it was in ref to my mango issue that even 50grams over is like eating a whole nother peice of fruit, thats what got me to stop the waste not want not thing.

Oh and when I weighed out my yogurt I would weight the amount and lick the spoon which maybe equalled half a gram if that.

Carla.

I deviated
1) with the cooking red wine rather than red wine vinegar
2) miscalculation of addition of fruit + yogurt (real stupid mistake)

Other than that, I'm sticking to it as close as I can get

On my first night on the program, I accidentally deviated. By eating....one pea!

I was cooking dinner for my partner (an alfredo pasta with some chicken and veg, including peas) and I was checking to see if the peas were cooked to perfection yet. Tried to tell from pinching one of them, but wasn't sure. Automatically just popped it in my mouth to check. Wasn't until about 10mins later when I was dishing it up for him that I thought 'hrmm, what's that weird taste in my mouth...oh...pea...oh...no!'

Oops!

But the upside was it made me really concious from then on about the fact that somethings I 'automatically' put in my mouth without realising when cooking and to really make a point of not doing it.

Just glad I realised and readjusted early....now veryyyyy vigilant.

i agree carianne- but would be a 40 ounce bottle of bourbon- one drink is too many and 100 not enough
in light of this in 6 weeks i have not deviated at all ( i am a pain in the **** checking when my wife does the weighing of the food hahaha)

i had two planned deviations during 10 weeks of phase 1. The first was set even before i started on CD and the other at the end before i started Refeed.

Gained weight and Stalled weighloss by a week each time but it was worth it coz they acted like pressure valves for me to continue on. Always went back to strict compliance the next day

I deviated big time once, went berserk in week 8. But in hindsight realised that it was more an emotional response than anything else. And deviated during travels (no choice). Until now (week 15), have stayed very disciplined and true to the task!

Are certain types of deviations worse than others?

Hahaha! I deviated on the 10th day of my Cohen plan. I have sever lower abdominal pain during my stay in a hotel with a friend. I drink less water that day because I don't have enough source. And I wasn't able to eat on time since I have to join my friend to buy food which delay it so much. That's when the pain happens. I can't stand straight.

So long story short, when the pain subsides, we went down and I ate the food I usually eat. It was suckling pig with rice and I didn't like it because it's so oily. I wasn't able to consume everything. Then, we had ice cream and the story went on until March 16.

I enjoyed eating though but then I suffered again from being bloated and guilty for not doing something to lose weight. So I went back on plan. I did OK until March 23. My housemate cooked yummy Chicken Pork Adobo and I only wanted to smell it since I thought I'll just be immune to it. But ended up eating. Then, I feel so disappointed to myself, I just cheated the whole day by drinking milk tea and eating the food I'm craving for.

And so after that day, I went back on plan again. And til now, April 23, I haven't deviated as horrible as that. Though sometimes, I get confused with the weights of food I feel I mixed it up or an extra fruit. But I'm happy it taught me how horrible deviation can cause you. So from then on, I stick to the plan as closely as possible.

Well done Trish... you deviated and now time to get back into your plan.. It dosnt take much just a lil more determination to start again and stay and look forward to losing all your extra weight.

I deviated as well.. I know I shouldn't have but the fresh damper rolls just looked to nice.
So here I am back on my plan 3 days later and back to the weight I was before I deviated.
For me it was like a pressure release and I enjoyed it but now im back for good.

look forward to losing all the weight now.

Things like that happens Jackie. We made mistakes but what important is that we go back to where we're supposed to do and focus to it til the end. You can do it dear. You're not alone with the deviation thing. Many people failed and tried and failed and tried. Yet, they made it through so as you.
