Lightbulb Yoga or Pilates?

ladies, needing some advice, has anyone done yoga or pilates on the program, im not looking to exercise, but maybe alittle bit of toning wouldnt hurt...

i dont want to stop the weight loss, but thought getting out and doing something like this would also help clear my mind.

any thoughts / advice would be appreciated.

Hey Nicole........I've just recently joined the new and swanky gym at my local shopping centre........

I'm of course not doing hard core exercise yet, but am getting into it slowly and if all goes well then I'm planning to do a body balance class this weekend............it's an hour long class with a combination of yoga, Pilates and tai chi. It's meant to be a bit meditative as well as gentle and toning.......

They said at our gym that the straight yoga class is quite a sweaty one........probably means that you have to work pretty hard and I'm not quite there with that yet!!!!

Body balance is one of those Les Mills fitness classes!!!

Hi Nicole, I've been doing Pilates all the way through & will definately continue to do so!

It's definately helping with toning, apart from my belly skin seems to be coming back nicely & showing some definition underneath. It also leaves my body humming, in a working well way, not an amped up gym workout way. And the amazing feeling of strength that you get, pretty quickly.

I had a seized up back & my whole pelvis, hips, legs only wanted to move as 1 solid piece, went to osteo a couple of weeks ago & she said it's amazing how I can now isolate each of those joints to get unique movement within them.

Hope this helps a little. Yes, I'm a fan!!!

Pilates is great for the core. I enjoy yoga for the stretch and relaxation (though it can be quite a workout too depending on what type of yoga you choose to practice).

I have been doing a combination class called Centergy of yoga and pilates all the way through Cohen's. It didn't seem to hinder my weight loss and I felt good doing it!

Hi Nicole!!

Do you have sky? They have breathing room or some yoga thing on the living channel I think...might be worth giving it a go at home first and see if it makes you hungry etc??

I have avoided both....I heard that pilates and yoga not only clear your mind but clear your large intestine of flatulence too...tee hee!!!
Not brave enough to experience that one in a public arena! Lol!

For maximum weight loss, get some cardi exercise in there...but do the yoga and/or pilates to keep your muscles toned as you lose so you're not flabby.I've not done much pilates, but I LOVE yoga. It's great for toning and flexibility.

Hi Hondo,

Probably valid for those on Maintenance, but not while on Plan, nor even Refeed. Cardio builds strength, muscle, etc leading to a higher metabolic rate - the latter then helps to keep fat off.

Doesn't work too well for GETTING slim though - Cohens does !!

It's most definitely assisting with sculpting, apart from my tummy skin seems to be returning perfectly & displaying some meaning beneath. It also results in my body singing, in a working well way, not an amped up gym exercise way. And the awesome sensation of durability that you get, fairly easily.o

Nicole i started pilates about 3 months ago and it definitely helps with the toning and i love it, i also have a huge problem with bat wings lol and lots of loose flabby tummy skin and there is a big improvement but it is not an overnight fix it takes a while to see the results. I know the retracting of the skin can't be helped by pilates but you will see definition in your arms, legs and stomach, the skin will take time to retract.

I'm of course not doing dedicated work out yet, but am getting into it gradually and if all goes well then I'm preparing to do a body system stability category this few days it's an time long category with a mixture of yoga work out, Yoga and tai chi. It's intended to be a bit trance-like as well as soothing and sculpting.......

i have done both before, from my experience, i'd say you have to be more flexible to do Yoga than Pilates, although both requires flexibility, and also, i feel that i sweat more when doing Pilate, bigger and more movement than Yoga, but Yoga is more difficult i think.

I love my yoga, distresses me, stretches me out, relaxes me and dare I say it possibly speeds up my weight loss!

Even if it doesn't speed it up and it is all in my mind it is still totally worth it to just switch off my mind for that 1.5 hours and break a small sweat

I don't know how bikram would go on the program though, just because I know people on much higher calories who get light headed etc!

Well i like yoga because its a simple exercise that provides us physical fitness with mental relaxation. It is good for stress and helps to reduce it. With doing yoga we can get good body shape. It is best to do yoga for health.

Pilates is a lot better in my opinion. While yoga may help with relaxation and finding an inner peace, Pilates on the other hand will actually do something beneficial to your body. Of course, only with a good and trusted instructor as there are way too many incompetent bastards who may mess you up for good. You are as strong and healthy as your core is, so focus on the core strength and you will see the difference in the quality of life immediately.
