Default Fruit.... salad?

Okay - so here's two questions for you all about FRUIT that I've been wondering about for the longest time... could someone please put me out of my misery?

1) So I'm allowed 2 "medium sized" fruits a day (like most of us I think?). I've been wondering whether "medium sized" has a weight limitation attached to it? I've been told what the weight limit on green melon and kiwi fruit needs to be - but let's take mango for example - what's medium sized in terms of a mango? Could anyone out there please let me know how they work that out? Can anyone give me a gram measurement at all? I really want to idiot proof myself as much as possible.

then...

2) Is there any rule against having a fruit salad? Let's say I take half an apple and half a peach and mix them together and take that as 1 fruit for the day? Or 1/3 apple, 1/3 peach and 1/3 nectarine into a salad = 1 fruit serving? Or am I pushing my luck? Any thoughts on this? I know it might be a dumb question, but I've just been wondering about that one...

OK...

Firstly, the only DUMB question is the one you don't ask..

With regard to your fruit, if there's a weight listed, that's it, if there isn't, it's one 'medium sized fruit', use your judgement (and conscience) to pick.
Mango is weighed, there is no 'medium size' in 180g! hehe (Don't forget, you weigh the FLESH only. Weigh-what-you-eat).

Yes, you can make fruit salad. Yes you can mix fruits. The only thing you can't do is have more than one 'fruit' at a time. Whether that one serve is made up of two halves, or three thirds or whatever, that's fine, but one serve, then wait 2.5 hours (min).

Oh, and, while we're on the subject, you don't HAVE to have a whole fruit at a time. You can break your fruit down into four halves a day or whatever (assuming you have two fruits in a day).

I used to have half a fruit for morning tea, half for afternoon tea and a whole one for supper. (I'm a night owl).

And, you can break up the 'weighed' fruit to add to your fruit salad. So, for example, your fruit salad could contain 1/4 apple, 1/4 peach, 1/4 nectarine and 1/4 mango-allowance and still be 'one fruit'.

Hope that helps.

My mango allowance is 150 gms. It's listed in my programme. I've been buying packs of four small mangos, each of which has about that weight in the flesh on them. I eat them in half allowances.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.
My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight.
What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/
Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

It took me 30 weeks to find the weight of the mango ........ and a plateau of almost nil weight loss for at least two weeks - by overeating on my fruit sizes - mango especially - I assumed that a mango was a mango - at a cost of less than normal weight loss - so ask those questions and read that book and together we can work it out.

Also way back when i started had bought a bag of very small apples thinking that it would be the way to go ......after telling my consultant in an email - she checked and was told by Dr Cohen that the medium size fruit - so long as not a huge piece was better - the reasoning as explained to me was that the smaller the fruit the more concentrated the sugars in that piece of fruit. However I have found that when looking for fruit I do tend to buy the larger pieces than the smaller ones - old habits die hard.

All the best mate - ask those questions - we are all learners in this game.......so fire away.

Andy

Thanks AJ,

I don't eat mango, so I was trying to remember the weight without having to go look it up

Ah you guys just rock!! On my fruit list the only one's listed with weights allowed is the Green Melon, Kiwi and Pawpaw. I specifically asked my consultant about it and she told me there isn't a specific measurement for it just to go for "medium sized". Hmmm. I had been sticking to 130g of it to be on the safe side, but sheesh, if I can push that up to 150g - that's just SUPER DOOPER!! Thanks!

I've just checked my plan, and Mango is 150g. Sorry for the confusion.

Evave, double check yours, I can't see why it's different. Please let us know if it's really 120g, and if it is, how old is your plan and where are you???
