Refeed questions
im almost ready to start refeed, id like to get down to 60kg before i start, if i can hold out on the hunger!!! it comes on quite suddenly, so im glad i ordered my refeed last wk and im reading it everyday now to make sure i get it perfect! my next clinic appointment is in about 12 days and i will definitely need to start before then, so although im still waiting to hear back from clinic regarding how i should go about going through refeed with them before that, i thought id ask you guys in case you can help me out a little! so here it goes: (dont laugh if they seem like silly questions hehe i need to know these things because it would be awful to screw up refeed and im so excited im here!) 1. when is the best time to eat your bread, whether it is 1, 2, 3 pieces? is it better to eat it for breakfast with cheese or egg or for lunch, snack, with dinner? 2. when adding pasta, can you have gluten free, or corn or rice pasta? or does it have to be normal wheat pasta? 3. does sweet potato count as a carb? it says butternut and pumpkin, so not sure. 4. if you decide to swap your bread for cb, do you have to eat all the cb? and then does the 2.5hr rule still apply? and are you able to eat more than 2cb at once? 5. can you have brown rice, or just white? 6. when im adding the butter/margarine to 1 piece of bread, could i instead use the butter allowance in a pan and fry my egg with the toast or make french toast/hole in the middle? 7. do you have to eat the 2 biscuits at the same time? 8. when adding in the new fruit, can i split some of the fruits, so say half an apple at breakfast, the other half at lunch, a whole fruit in the arvo and a whole fruit with dinner? 9. can i use tinned corn, drained? i think that would be a yes, but just checking! 10. can i snack on the extra veg, and can i snack on crispbread and cheese in the afternoon, once im allowed to mix protein, as long as i dont go over my allowance of cheese? NOW THAT WOULD BE EXCITING! ok i have about 15 more but i wont post them, too much, and i will ask my consultant!! any answers would be great, thanks peeps xx

Hey hope_ful,
Congrats on being so close .. the hunger is a pain isn't it ... I can answer some of these and others can elaborate some more. 1. It beleive it doesn't matter during refeed - in Maintenance we are advised to not start the day with carbs - so I personally don't eat bread at breakfast, but during refeed I did it on a couple of days because I couldn't fit all the food in ( which was a nice change). 2. during refeed I was advised to stick to the basic everyday equivalents so wheat pasta, no health breads etc. Just base foods so semolina based pasta. 3. Sweet potato is a carb food but is not on my refeed list so I did not add it until maintenance, if it is not on your lists don't add it until maintenance. It is not a true potato so is not included in potato - but it is definately a carb. It is very high in natural sugar. 4. I didn't always eat the bread or crispbreads on refeed, but I tried to. 3 crispbreads per slice of bread was quite a lot 5. nope just white during refeed. 6. I don't see why not ... it's still the same quantity, just in a different order. 7. No I don't beleive so. 8. Yes, I made fruit salad and had several servings throughout the day. 9. yes - but only if it has no sugar or salt added - check the label. 10. I was advised not to do that during refeed, after it's fine, but try and stick to three meals a day. Now this was the advice given by my clinic - yours may give conflicing advice as may others on here based on their clinic. This is just what I was told and did. Good luck Connie

thanks connie!
you answered all of them hehe yay, clears some stuff up for me. i think ill understand the whole process a little better once i start. i went to coles this morning to buy some more tuna and mozzarella, and walked past all the biscuits and thought "hmm i could buy them now, and save them for when im allowed obviously" and then i thought nooo they will sit in the cupboard and tease me, and my sisters will probably eat them first anyway hehe. on maintenance do you eat crackers with your breakfast? or just protein? would you eat protein and then fruit for breaky?? also can you have two serves of yoghurt a day on maintenance? like for breakfast and then as a snack in the afternoon? i read in my plan it says you should snack on protein, not fruit. (but i love snacking on apples). thanks have a good day xx |

I tried LOL.
I have been known to have crackers with egg at times, but mostly I have yoghurt for breakfast I am a creature of habit. If I have eggs I have steak and eggs and vegies etc etc or an omelette with mushrooms and cheese.. so I usually don't need crackers as well. As a rule if I snack on fruit I add protein to it - fruit and cheese, fruit and yoghurt etc etc. Thats what the Dr recommends. If you look in Shell's, mine and probably others maintenance diaries, we all got a little carried away with cheese for a while ... it's dangerous cause it's pretty calorie laden LOL ..... Having said that I try not to eat between meals because I find it just makes me want to eat more often. Also I do have days when we have friends over for breakfast and I have pancakes and eggs and bacon etc, but then I just watch myself for the rest of that day and probably the day after and it all comes good LOL Maintenance is all about finding what works for YOU. Connie

connie im thinking of starting refeed this wed, as i have a wedding to go to at the end of march, and i think it would be better if i have finished refeed, as i wont be able to weigh the foods and i really couldnt take all my own refeed food, id be hiding and eating my food for so long that people would start to worry!! hehe so even though im not at my personal goal of 60 to start refeed (i do have tomo and wed to have losses though) do you think thats a good idea?
id rather be finished refeed by the wedding, i know i wont eat badly then anyway, 1 or 2 drinks, and no wedding cake! i find i dont eat a lot at weddings as im normally running around chatting away. i dont want to rush into refeed, but i also know if i start in a few days, i will be almost at the end of refeed by this celebration and i dont want to make things harder, or think "gosh i wish i started 3 days earlier!!" xxx oh so my point was, if i start this wed i will be finished the day before the wedding! |

In refeed it quite clearly states you are not allowed to increase the amounts for the yoghurt, egg and cheese, so unless you have yoghurt listed in more than one meal, the answer is no.
It sounds good to be finished before the wedding. It means you don't have to stress for the wedding and you can focus on enjoying yourself. Vee |

thanks vee!
yeah i would definitely be stressing out at the wedding if i was still on refeed, and the couple are good friends of my boyfriend and i, so i want to be relaxed and enjoying myself! i did read that about the egg, cheese and yoghurt, just thought id ask because they didnt mention tofu in my refeed guidelines, i just got a generic one which lists meat and chicken, which they know i dont eat. so im waiting for a reply from my consultant on the tofu issue! also, it says to only mix proteins of chicken, tuna and meat. since i only eat tuna, am i allowed to mix tuna with egg/cheese, or tofu with egg/cheese/tuna?? i dont think id be allowed to mix cheese and egg!! and i definitely wouldnt want to mix yoghurt with anything!! haha how gross. mmm yum i'd love some tuna in my yoghurt please! gag. xxx |

ok i got all my questions answered by my consultant yay!
im feeling guilty about starting refeed, how stupid does that sound? i feel like im cheating because i could maybe continue on with the plan and lose more weight. i am getting hungry, and a little snappy at everyone. im waking up earlier than normal, but not at 4am like others have mentioned. i dont have backache? i do think its good to get it done by the wedding but i also want to give myself the best chance at stabilising a low weight. it sounds ridiculous. i am very excited to be here! but could i get further? im always thinking i havent done enough (story of my life) and i hope i am just being silly.. i dont want to get too low, im in the middle of the cohen's range. hopefully i lose more on refeed! anyway i could just lose more on maintenance if i still want to right?? xx |

Hope_ful,
only you know when you are ready, there have been some on here who did refeed earlier for special occasions ... but it is harder to lose on maintenance ... you may well lose more on refeed as well though. I'm afraid only you can answer that one. Vee - hope_ful was asking about two serves of yoghurt on maintenance - not refeed .... so all is OK Connie

thanks connie.. after having another chat with my consultant we've agreed it's best i start refeed today or tomorrow.. so im starting today.. excited to add a good fruit and increase my meals a little.. getting very hungry!! last night i woke up at 130, 430, 530, 630 and then finally at 7 for my alarm for work hehe
ive read asy's new rules re diaries, but to start a refeed diary do i just make a new thread?? thanks for helping me out on this also ive just discovered the jalna low fat greek yoghurt! in a light blue tub. its not watery, and is thick and creamy so a little confusing hehe but its so good, low fat, if you want to try it i recommend it.. it's the best yoghurt ive had on the program.. except for the black swan which i had in the first week until i realised we're not allowed inulin!! xxxx |

The Black Swan yoghurt is really tasty. I have been using it for my breakfast almost daily since finishing refeed last August. I had a few frozen berries, occasionally some honey. I hadnt realised it wasnt allowed on the programme, pleased I didnt discover it then. |
