Default Exercise and Cohen's - can they co-exist?

Hi all,
Just wanted to check...
I was told that it is best not to start excercising if you haven't before your Cohen days as it will make you feel hungry.
I love swimming and am thinking of going 1-2 times a week - do you think this is a good idea?
I have a little 15 month old so by the time I am ready to go for a swim it's probably close to 9pm so there isn't too much time or opportunity to eat after, maybe just a piece of fruit after?
What do you think?

Hey NewMoi!

I guess it would depend on how rigorously you plan on swimming, hehe

And for how long... I would try not to eat after 9:30.

You could give it a go, and if you experience hunger then you could stop.

Personally, I have been taking the easy route... I have even stopped using the stairs... oh how lazy I feel using the lift for 2 floors, muhahaha.

Exercise if you havent done it before will upset the insulin levels and your weightloss will slow....as your body goes into conservation mode....I think you should leave it

As your body is only receiving enough nourishment to maintain the engine in idle mode while the HGH does it's thing, the caloric intake is just above "starvation" mode. Therefore it is unlikely that you could exercise without slowing down or stopping your losses. Why? Because if your exercise burns enough calories to cause your body to go into 'starvation' mode, it won't matter how little you eat, as your body will try to store any intake of nourishment it gets, therefore fat burning stops and fat storage starts. You cannot make your body lose any faster by trying to do extra on the programme. Same for not eating your crackers and/or fruit. It won't speed it up at all. You can try it if you want, but many here have tried without success and some with disastrous results (deviation). Dr. C has designed the programme to enable you to lose the weight at the maximum "healthy" rate that your body can endure. Trying to tweak it by modifying the programme will only lead to either disappointment or frustration. Let the programme work as it was designed. It's better for you in the long term.

Presumably "normal" day to day activity won't be enough to send us you into starvation mode? I mean walking round the shops, playing wth the kid, chasing after him as he heads for the road etc? (Not that I'd NOT chase after him in those circumstances!)

Normally, no. But if it's your habit to chase your kids for a hour on the footy pitch, it might be a good idea to scale it back some. Most everybody who does this diet has families, or works. Most do not hole up somewhere for the duration. Even Dr. C says, if you are currently doing a regular exercise programme, it's not necessary to "stop" but you should scale it back enough that it gives the programme the room to work that it needs. Obviously life has to go on, but your losses may be a little slower that some, if it is, you might have to scale back a little. You will know as you go. Guaranteed.

Actually this could be ideal. Gives me the perfect excuse to sit down with my book while my husband chases the kid around

As we all are fond of saying here, you have to remember the biggest thing is that "THIS IS FOR YOU". And always remember to tell yourself that "You are worth it!"

Hi there New Moi, quite frankly I found the no exercise clause quite appealing initially from quite a lazy perspective but then I thought about it realised that the whole Cohen program is about the chemical processes going on in our bodies and correcting them to burn fat instead of depositing it. If at the time of our blood tests we were not exercising then the chemistry in our bodies would reflect this and the Cohen program would be calculated based on this fact.

I intend being more active when I lose the weight because I find the weight precludes me from doing what I want (cramps my golf swing lol). I love exercising if I am having fun, hate it if I am doing it solely to lose weight.

Good luck on your journey, I am losing weight carrying on the way I was before Cohen's.

Andy
