Default Coffee and Cake

Hello all,
My workmates and I often do 'coffee and cake' as a social outing - don't think this is a cohen friendly situation!

Obviously there is no such thing as a cohen cake, but what are allowable cafe coffees if any and what do others do in this situation?

Thanks for the help!!

Kat x

Hi kat,

I just do straight Long Black - and I've been carrying around my little sugarines in my handbag so I can add that. I'm actually really enjoying my coffee without milk - will probably stick with it even after I'm finished the program.

Best of luck!

Hi Cheekykat,
You could always use your cheese & cracker allowance and make a cheesecake (see recipes ) cheesecake smuggled in with a long black and a hint of sprite zero (changes the taste to what I believe is like turkish delight..) is great and you will feel like everyone else..
Hope it helps enjoy...

Cheers Di

diane is right, u can make cheesecakes, also u can make a mango and ricotta cheesecake or cinnamon spiced apple cheesecake, very yum!! i made little cakes with my apple, egg and cracker allowance and ate veg on the side.. very yummy warm with extra cinnamon sprinkled on top! u can also have most regular tea and even an iced latte (black of course, with sweetener not syrup).

I usually carry an apple in my handbag and order a long black. I find the apple mitigates the 'strong' taste of the coffee for me, and it is a good teeth cleaner too (I am paranoid about staining my teeth). Or I just have a long black and, if they are my friends, I am open and say I wont be having cake, but you girls enjoy, if it is a work function type thing, then I just enjoy my long black, do lots of talking, snack on my apple if I want, but try never to look embarrassed or shy. I know its hard, but i find people tend to take the cue from you, if your not shy or embarrassed, neither are they. As long as everyone can comfortably eat what they want, cake, apple, nothing, its all good!

Best wishes.

I will also share my own personal experience. I recently had to go on a team outing, and we went to a cafe. Lucky the cafe was outdoors and quite relaxed, and the staff didnt mind that I brought my own lunch along. I brought my stuff in a plastic bag, my lunch, knife and fork, water bottle and snack. I thought I might get a few comments and yes a few people did ask 'what's for lunch' but it was all very polite, and it was not awkward at all. I was pleasantly suprised, and thought to myself that my colleugues, rather than being immature about it, were really supportive in their own way (by not commenting) and just allowed me to do my own thing. Now it is just accepted that if we have a morning tea or group thing, I will bring my own stuff, and noone comments at all. I still participate in group discussion and try and be involved, but just separate the food component out - although I still contribute to bring in dips etc although i wont have any, it is just my personality and part of the 'team thing' - i could bring in fruit etc but I find it easier to just have something I can throw in my bag and take rather than slice, dice etc. But i definately agree with Faithy that this could be an opportunity for you to show a new type of catch-up coffee arrangement if you want? up to you.

Regardless, enjoy the time!
cheers

I must admit, I tried the long black coffee with a splash of Sprite Zero this morning. I'm sorry gal, but I had to spit it out and toss it all down the sink. I couldn't get the turkish delight taste I was soooo dying to experience..

Sorry, each to their own. Glad to hear you like it though

Cheers
Kim

I had so many outings and birthday parties since being on Cohens (only 6 weeks), it's unbelievable. I always try and time my meals and my menu so that I can have my cheese on those days. I either drink back tea/coffee or my diet cooldrink and eat my cheese and crackers and veg (I slice tamato and cucumber in a small plastic tub) if it is lunchtime, if not I'll perhaps eat an apple if I feel like it. It is not that hard if you stick to it and do it every time, it becomes easier. We had cake at our meeting earlier today and I just said "no thank you". The other people feel more akward than I do, but I have to learn to control myself, I cannot expect them not to have anything because I can't.
