Default Check YOUR Curry Powder !! (aka CURRY- The bane of my existence)

More and More people are having problems with CURRY.

Whilst Curry IS allowed on the programme, you must ENSURE that it contains NO FLOUR.

Flour can be ‘disguised’ with different wording, for example: Rice Flour, Anti-Caking Agent, Starch, etc

Any curry you use must NOT contain any of these items.

Keens Curry DOES contain these and is therefore NOT allowed.
Even the “Clive of India” curry which was previously thought OK is NOT ALLOWED as it contains Fenugreek, which is a BIG problem under the programme...

Of course, you may make your own, provided you adhere to the rules!

Also, just as a warning, we don’t know why, but, even the TINIEST amount of the incorrect curry seems to have fierce detrimental affect, and we’ve had reports of people “only” having a quarter of a teaspoon of the wrong curry and it stopping their weight loss for a week! The adverse effect seems utterly disproportional to the error, but, it’s been a real problem for quite a number of people.

If in doubt, leave it out!!!

hmm, not sure. If you have a tin take a look at the ingredients on the side, see what it lists.

Hi KimN,

Keens is not what you want, Kim - see below :-

The ONLY brand of curry we’re aware of, at this time, that’s allowed under the Cohens Principles is “Clive of India”.

Also, FWIW, I was chatting directly with Asy, and she emphasized that even the TINIEST amount can lead to HUGE consequences - so, best to be sure by staying away....

I *believe* keens mustard is OK. But, I just tried to have a look, but I seem to have run out. If someone's got one around the place, please list the ingredients and I'll tell you.

I also have a tin of Woolworths brand mustard powder, and that only lists mustard powder as the ingredient (with no additives or msg, etc.) So PHEW on both counts. Just need to fix up the curry powder issue tomorrow. I guess curry powder is the least of my worries at the minute LOL!

Folks,

I know I am risking the ire of those more strict than I.

I have to say I struggle with these kind of posts, the a quarter of teaspoon of curry powder stopping weight loss for a week does seem a little scare mongering...

Seriously, how can 1 or 2 gms of flour have that kind of impact? The curry recipe I am using has a ground up salada in it to thicken it, and that contains flour so the addition of the evil curry powder is hardly going to make a difference.

I have the same issue with multi vitamins, the rule about not having lactose in your multi vitamin meant I set aside a $45 bottle of multivitamins and bought another bottle so I would stay deviation free and then I find out that the "approved" laxative senokot contains lactose. So why would lactose be banned in the multi vitamin but be allowed in the laxative? It really is contradictory.

If you are following your plan your overall calorie intact is going to be low. aI simply can't see how 1 or 2gms of flour is going to reverse any weight loss , it kinda defies logic....

Anyway I am sure I am going to be corrected!!

Yeah, I dont quite understand it either, and from asy's post...

"The adverse effect seems utterly disproportional to the error, but, it’s been a real problem for quite a number of people."

...seems she also didn't quite understand how such a small amount could seemingly have such a large effect, but you can only base it on what you hear from others I suppose.
And since we're not allowed it anyway, is the kind of warning that I appreciate. I'm not one to check labels, though I definately know I should be, so I was glad to find out.

I do get where your coming from though, but better to be safe than sorry I say =)

I hear you Scarlet and yes the information is posted so that others can choose to take it up or not. I do acknowledge that asy has also said the results are disproportionate to the the error.

I just did a wee experiment, one portion of salada by my scales weighs 8gm

One Tablespoon of curry powder weighs 3g, given that one tablespoon equals two and a half teaspoons, half a teaspoon of curry powder is going to be just over half a gram. Assuming that half the curry powder is made up flour ( which is very unlikely to be the case) then we are talking about quarter of a gram of flour....

Or 1/32 of one portion of salada.

Oh Asy, please do not think I am having a go at you, that's not my intention. I appreciate your efforts to help and inform others, I suppose in this instance I am just presenting another perspective...

Maybe I need to get in my box, and admit that I really know very very little about the programme, but my logical self wont let me! So this is not at all personal and I am big enough to accept when I am wrong....
