TV Cooking Shows
I watched Nigella a few weeks ago and cooked ChocoHotoPots for the family, luckily I don't have a sweet tooth. The butter, sugar, chocolate, etc were in quite large quantities. Since starting Cohens I have watched one cooking show and turned it off. I am thinking that it is not helpful entertinment at the moment. Does anyone else find that it is better not to watch TV cooking shows while on Cohens?

Re: TV Cooking Shows
i find the hardest part is the tv ads at tea time and the constant stream for brochures in our mail box for pizza etc. also the lady that does the cooking on sunrise makes great food but soooo unhealthy. jacin

Re: TV Cooking Shows
I was watching The Iron Chef on Saturday night & it was a Valentines dessert special using chocolate & pears. I swear my mouth was drooling!
If that food had been in front of me, I have no doubt I would've eaten it! It was torturous to watch & don't think I'll be watching again while on Cohen's! |

Re: TV Cooking Shows
I LOVE Iron Chef, great show!
I have never noticed all the cooking shows on TV, until I stared Cohen's- funny I suppose I watch them and it doesn't bother me too much, I don't eat sweets or cakes etc, but notice more when they cook lamb, beef etc. I aslo find when they add a "little" bit of oil- OMG they use heaps- especially Huey!! Have a great Cohen's day Shell

Re: TV Cooking Shows
i know exactly what you all mean... i keep seeing ad's for pizza and it definitely makes me drool! But i think i prefer the pizzas I make now anyways to the store bought ones at least, but my non-cohens ones are so good too and definitely have less oil then the store bought ones!
but it is DEFINITELY harder to watch these shows when on cohens. funnily, whenever I was home sick from school or whatever, I would watch tv and there would be SO many cooking shows on during the day and if course I couldn't eat anything coz I was sick. THAT was pure torture, I ended up always making sure I watched dvd's instead! I remember one time I was sick for 2 weeks, I had mouth ulcers all over my gums, tongue and inside of my cheeks - they were everywhere! The doc said I had like 50 of them. They initiailly told me to have ice cream - that didn't work. Then throat lozenges - again didn't work. They finally gave me antibiotics, but I had already lost 10kg in those 2 weeks, had lovely long nails and hadn't eaten a thing. But that didn't stop the tv from showing cooking show after cooking show... I spent most of the time reading and grinding my teeth. Oh and I couldn't talk either... anyway, that was a bit of a digress. But tv cooking shows = BAD

Re: TV Cooking Shows
Nelle - I've had that too! Luckily I only had it for a week - and yes, cooking shows were a torture! It was esp hard when ppl around me were eating some of my fav foods, and I couldnt touch a thing - I could hardly even drink water!
I actually enjoy cooking shows - although I can't cook anything for myself, i seem to feel satisfied just watching things being cooked!

Re: TV Cooking Shows
Funny I have been watching them and they have not been a real issue - last night we watched Food Safari on Brazil. I tend to watch them with a thought in mind on how to modify what I am watching post Cohen's to make it a healthy choice. I read on someones refeed diary that they can have 6 almonds and 2 squares on dark chocolate on maintenance per day so I experimented with some choc treats - mixed 6 ground almonds, 2 sq of dark choc, some grated coconut and 4 dried blueberries to make some little choc treats and gave them to Chris to taste test. They got the thumbs up. I think they could be Cohens maintenance friendly too.
I am a big Iron Chef fan too. Cheers Daisy

Re: TV Cooking Shows
I love all the cooking shows - Iron Chef, the Cook & the Chef, Nigella, Jamie Oliver etc - while I'm on Cohens I don't feel hungry so don't crave the menus but when not on it it's tempting alright - except Iron Chef is usually with a product I wouldn't eat anyway - I can believe what the Japanese eat - sea urchins etc

Re: TV Cooking Shows
I LURVE cooking shows and recipe books and find I get hungrier while watching them, than making non-Cohen's food for hubby and friends each weekend.
If you can stand the swearing, Gordon Ramsay is great to watch. cheers babytime |
