Default Refeed symptoms but not at refeed as yet...

Hi ya
I have lost 45 kilos and have about another 25/30 kilos to; however over the last week or so I have been experiencing a lot of the symptoms of the body being ready for refeed.

Surely that can't be right - but I am hungry between meals (stomach grumbles big time between each meal), I have back pain, I am very grumpy and irritable...

Any tips or advice please???? I will chat to my consultant this week but we weren't able to catch up last week due to her being sick.

Hi Karen,
Your consultant is KEY on this one. I hope you get to catch up this week. Meanwhile, a few thoughts:-

1. Are you eating ALL that you are allowed, even the "optional" foods?

2. Have you tried eating the larger meals earlier in the day - to provide the most energy when you NEED it. Mr HGH will work fine on an empty(er) stomach....

3. The back pain could be simply your posture changing as you have already shed TWO economy-class suitcases !!! Perhaps a visit to a chiropractor or similar is worth considering.

Then again, "someone" on here mentioned acupuncture - I can't point you to it, but a Search might find it. Talk being that your kidneys could benefit from some attention. And of course, kidneys can provide "back pain" too.....

Let's see what the clinic says....

Koh

And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!

Hey Karen!!

The hunger (which can lead to the grumps) could just be your body cutting through the next layer of fat!! Maybe you were at this weight for awhile and your body is having a little tanty. The back pan, as Koh said, might just be a realignment thing, where you body is adjusting to not carrying so much. I know I felt back pain when I gained wait (it hurt) and have had some on and off pain through my journey.

I'd say just do your best to get through it... Eat all of your allowance (cracker and fruit), drink lots of water and remember hunger isn't an emergency!! Sometimes even just knowing and labeling the way you are feeling (ie: grumpy cos you're hungry) can help you move forward.

You could also try some pampering things... Like giving yourself a little reward. Maybe a nice relaxing bath, a pedicure, manicure... Some time for relaxation. Reward yourself for everything you've done already and get ready for the last 24 kilos!

Talked to my consultant this evening - she has suggested that I trial going apple free for a couple of weeks as I am one of those people who get hungry after eating an apple and I am having an apple a day (each evening) as I love the crunchiness of them. I am also going to trial going cheese free for two weeks as well as I only recently introduced cheese into my menu (have it 2/3 times a week) and perhaps that is slowing my losses down... time will tell.
Re my back pain - she agrees that it could be my body adjusting to the lower weight etc after years of carrying around the excess so suggested I see a physio to get some exercises to do as that is what she had to do when she was on the program.
I am also going to start gentle walking and gentle weights to try to start toning... am a tad excited about that
