Default BOOK GROUP: The Beck Diet Solution

Book Group: The Beck Diet Solution

Hey Happy Forumites

On the list from my Clinic, below the Vitamin and Mineral Supplements, is a book.

Not just any book, The Beck Diet Solution: Train your brain to think like a thin person (Amazon Kindle $8.99).

THIS IS A METHOD BOOK, NOT A DIET, FOOD OR RECIPE BOOK

The Blurb says:

Dr Beck, one of the foremost authorities in the field of Cognitive Therapy, has created a six-week plan that will help people stick with their diet, lose weight with confidence, and keep weight off for a lifetime.

This program is not only based on the author's personal success and on her success with her many clients, but also on published research. It all starts with how you think.

The Beck Diet Solution is designed to build psychological skills that will enable you to:
  • Avoid cheating
  • Cope with hunger and cravings
  • Deal with stress and strong negative emotions without turning to food
  • Motivate yourself to exercise
  • Handle eating out, vacations, and special occasions
  • Eliminate overeating, bingeing, and backsliding

You can learn how to do all of the things you need to do to diet successfully by changing the way you think.

So I have bought a copy and will read it. Probably many times. I am a big fan of the Power of Positive Thinking and do believe that if we can change our thoughts we can change our lives.

I love Cohen’s but once I finish this Program, I don’t want to do it again.

I want to reach my Ideal Weight and to maintain that weight for the rest of my life. If this Book helps me to do that then it will be a very good buy indeed at $8.99

Please Comment:
  • Did you know about this book?
  • Have you bought it?
  • Have you read it? When?
  • Has it helped you with Maintaining your Weight?

As it is on the List from the Clinic it must be considered to be very helpful.
If you have read it, did you
  • Buy it
  • Was it given to you, if so, by whom
  • Did you borrow it, if so, from a
  • **Library
  • **A Friend or other Dieter

Please contribute a short Review of this book

If you have any other books on Maintaining Weight Loss ..... METHOD BOOKS NOT DIET BOOKS .... please post a short review and let us get a Book Group off the ground

Lotsa love
Kristine

Please ensure that apart from identifying the book you are reviewing, where you bought it and how much you paid, that your post contains no advertising.

I bought the book ... I will see how Cognitive Therapy goes for me this time around ....

I was thinking maybe you could use the same application to quit smoking...over eating has simular triggers.

Here is a link to a bunch of short clip on The Beck Diet Solution https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...+diet+solution

I started reading THE BOOK !! ... its basically how to say NO! and to stay in control over food.

But I keep thinking about my first re feed back in May 2013 and I felt starved, deprived it was more than just an emotion the wanting to EAT consumed me.....

This is partly why last week end when I wanted to deviate and step of plan I did, I thought about it for 7 hours before .... I wasn't going to set myself up again for the same situation....I was just going to have a day to myself , and then back on plan....not let in 10 mini deviations that would do so much more damaged in the long run....and that is what this book is getting at ...

WHY is dieting not working for some people and how to maintain on the long haul of life. I am definitely going to put together a chart of danger foods for myself spell it out. Have it in the cupboard, put it on the fridge, make sure I don't trick myself into thinking its OK .

Like I can't have a loaf of bread in the house or a jar of peanut butter, bananas is another. These would be foods that I could have if I eat out once in a while but not at home and who would eat a banana peanut butter sandwich out ! No one but at home I could demolish the jar and the loaf of bread in 24 hours !!

Or making scrolls ( bread with vegemite and cheese ) in the thermomix , is OK ONCE every 2 weeks as a treat , not every day and put on 10kg's ( like last time )

Eating clean is paramount for staying slim, to stay away from processed foods for 90 % of all food consumed. If you sit down to 3 meals a day , three prepared meals, even if you are eating out and have ordered is OK, and stick to the three square meals that are clean you must be half way there to maintaining... The GRAZING that comes in when people have children, talking in the office over coffee, mindlessly eating biscuits, chips, etc The is a dieters kill switch. Personally I have found taking my food prepared is such a life saver ... it gives me something to look forward to and I know there is a yummy meal waiting for me

Anyway Just my thoughts too date

Well worth the read .. good luck every one keep on keeping on

Hi Jessy,

Isn't it cool that you KNOW that. Was this something you learned during Refeed? Or did it show up later on in Maintenance? There is so much to learn isn't there?

I was "re-acquainting myself" with NewYou a few days back, and I stumbled on a very interesting post where someone mentioned that some body types can handle sugar, but can't handle fats well, and other bodies are vice versa !! I think it was one of the threads in the "Maintenance" section, and the author was Tantravaya - the name sticks with me, 'cos she seemed to be very wise in such things.

Anyway, do have a read around - there is a wealth of "good stuff" out there,

Koh

And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!
