Default Question about vegetable types

hello everyone,
i hope this question has not been raised already and i have missed veiwing the responses.
i am curious if anyone knows why there are no orange vegetables in our allowance?
what is IN carrots and pumpkin and red capsicum that would not be good for us?
i'm also suprised things like snow peas, broccoli, greens beans are not included.
any ideas on this would be great.
cheers, caitlin.

Hi Cait,

I am sure others will be able to explain in more depth but it is cause broccoli, peas and all of them have more carbs in them. We dont think so we just think that they are healthy but they do. That is why we cant have them.

I am not sure if there is another reason but it is the carb thing.

Hope you are going well.

Annie

thanks Annie.
i guess i always had the idea that if it was a vegetable it couldn't be bad for you.
i learnt eventually that potatoes are less good than others veges, but i'm suprised that a pea would have carbs. ah well, yet another thing to add to my (ever increasing) list of new things i'm learning!
thanks for replying, cait.

Hi Cait,

The reason we can't have the veg you've listed is because of the carbs they contain.

Things like carrots, red capsicum, brocolli, brussel sprouts, corn, too much onion, too much tomato all have a higher amount of sugar in them and that would trigger an insulin response.

Things like potato, pumpkin, sweet potato, peas, lentils, beans, are all high in starches, which again get converted to sugars and again trigger an insulin response.

Avocado is also not allowed and thats because it contains fat (its the only veg that does!). It may be a good fat, but it is still a fat that has to be broken down by the body.

Also, apart from sugars and starches, Cohens also considers any chemical reactions that occur when you eat certain foods and that could be another reason why the above veg are not allowed.

Hope this helps,

Nat
