Thumbs up Roxy's Diary

Hi Everyone

At last, a forum that I can join! I have been reading the 1pd forum but was not allowed to join as the required a IN number.

I am from South Africa and joined Dr Cohens on 4 April 2009. To date I have lost 11kg and lots of cm, as clothes that fitted me 2 years ago are now starting to fit me again. Yeah!! I started on 103kg and am now on 92kg and my goal is 68kg. Still a way to go but I am still positive and have not deviated in any way, and don't intend to.

I just have one question, in my first 2 weeks I lost 7kg. Then I stood still for 2 weeks and now I seem to be only losing 1kg per week. I am generally a slow loser but would like to see the scale moving a bit more. I have tried to cut out cheese for a week but that did not help. I also drink about 3+ Liters of water a day. Is this normal on the program? Everyone else seems to be losing at a much faster pace. Okay, maybe the only deviation is climbing on the scale once a week but this helps to keep my motivated.

Look forward to making friends and receiving motivation and support from this forum.

Hi, I had my first weigh in today and have lost 9.7kg (4 week weigh in) so you are just doing F I N E fine. I found cheese stopped any loss in its tracks so have cut back to once a week until the block is gone and then () no more cheese. Keep up the great work!!!!

Hi Roxy,

Welcome aboard I wanted to have a crack at answering your question re "how fast do we lose weight?"

In short, there are MANY things that can impact - here are a few:-
1. Around 47.5% of people will lose 9.1Kg (20lb) or more in their first four weeks (based on Andy's poll today....) That means that 52.5% lose LESS than 9Kgs.

The first month will likely show approx. double the losses of other months (a very few have confounded that theory, but it seems to work for most). Expand that out, and the "average" is around 4 - 4.5Kg per month AFTER the first month (or, 1 to 1.1Kg per week).
2. Those with "more to lose" tend to lose quicker.
3. Recent gains move quickly (as opposed to "hard-packed fat" built up over many years)
4. Younger people lose weight quicker (related to 3. ?)
5. Males lose quicker than females
6. Underlying medical conditions can impact....
7. Deviations will slow you down markedly - and make the job harder, as the body chemicals get kicked out of whack.
8. Stress will tend to slow things - so keep as happy as possible.

Some clinics say "Bank on 1Kg a week, and consider any extra as a bonus". Many have LESS than 1Kg weeks, followed by 1.5+ Kg weeks. As an average, though, that seems to make sense.

In the end, Roxy, there are not many other ways "out there" that will achieve 1Kg a week - so, just by doing Cohens, you're doing WELL (IMHO ).

I hope you enjoy your time on here - it's a good place to be

Koh

Top shout Koh!

I can also confirm that for me, some non strenuous exercise, like walking shifts my weight the morning after. I walk 9 holes each Saturday now (for last 4 weeks) - that's about 4 km, pulling a golf bag and cart.
Each Sunday morning I get a nice surprise, whereas before golf, Sundays were miserable loss days, because my Saturday's weren't very eventful.

Good luck!

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the replies and encouragement. I just felt after my first weigh-in the consultant expected me to lose more. She told me that some of the other people that started with me had lost 13 - 16kg in the first 4 weeks, which really depressed me. I did note that the lady that lost 16kg has about 150kg to lose, so that would explain that one. I decided not to take any notice and just stick to it. This program really works and I have never had so much success as with Cohens, was just worried I was doing something wrong.

Imfef, I have thought of starting to go for a slow walk. Will try this week and see what happens.

Kohinoor, how do I create my own dairy section. I did try but it said that I don't have permission to post in that section.

Thanks again everyone, I feel much better. Good luck to us all!!

Hi Roxy,

To start a diary, you need to complete a "Diary Request Form". In the Diary section, it's right at the top of the page - but here's the link:-

Maybe your consultant also lost a lot (and had a lot to lose). Thus, maybe they have unreal expectations of what MOST people lose Anyway, you're here now - and can find out how it goes for most....

Wow !! No wonder she lost so much. Interestingly enough, I don't recall anyone on here needing to lose that much - yet, one or two have lost more than 20Kg in that first month. But that is NOT "the norm" for sure.

Smart girl !! In the end, your body will do for you what you will allow it to do. If you do your best to stick to the Plan, then your body will respond admirably !! And you will shed those Kgs in the very best way YOU can (not to be compared with anyone else). I guess the poll at least helps to bring a bit of "normalcy" to expectations eh?

Rock on, Roxy - you'll be sweet,

Koh

Hi Kehinoor

Definately! I think we measure ourselves according to what others achieve and then feel like losers when we don't achieve the same...but acutally we are all loser hey ...well those that stick to the plan 100%.

This forum is a life saver ..we don't get much advise here in good old SA. I just received my diet, a 2 page document telling me what I may eat and a recipe book. I see some members refer to a guide, which we did not get.

Thanks for the link. Some of us are IT challenged . I will definately be visiting this forum often.

Hi Roxy,

Welcome to the forum. I know it's hard but please try not to compare yourself to others. We all lose weight at a different rate. The only certainty is that by following the program you will continue to lose. You have done so well so far so just keep doing what you are doing.

Good luck.

Rach

Hi Carrie Anne

It's me, Michelle from Facebook. Thanks so much for sending me the link to this forum. Just one day on and I already have more perspective about the weight that I am losing, thanks to all the wonderful support and the poll from Kohinoor. Actually I am doing very well and I am not going to get on the scale again until my 8 week weigh in.

Thanks Rach77 and Daffodil for the words of encouragement. This diet is actually very easy to follow. I have been 100% Cohens since the start.

I will post in the diary section but am waiting for approval. Good luck everyone and let's keep shedding those kg and cm!!!

Daffodil, where is your clinic? I go to the one in Monument Park.

Hi Roxy,

This is looking so much like a diary, I'll alert Asy to make THIS thread your approved Diary once the validation has taken place. That way, all this good stuff becomes "your Diary".

Hi Roxy! You know I just love that alias! I am so glad i found this place too. I love all of the support in here. And who would have thought that there would be so many of you South African folks milling about.I had another night out of drinking tea-I put it in a rocks glass(small wide -you know the one they use for whiskey on the rocks and manhattans etc.) and some one asked me if I was drinking whiskey. So good to know that we are not alone on this Cohen flight.!

Hi Everyone

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am hanging in there and feel much better since being on the forum. Saturday is my 8 week weigh in. Will post on Monday. I am going to try add a ticker to my signature. I know there is a post to help with this.

Carrieanne, Roxy is actually my doggies name, whom I love to bits. Decided to use her name as Michelle is a common name and somebody has probably used it already.

Glad to hear there are also fellow South Africans on this site. I wish I knew about this site when I started, but I still have about 6 months to go so I will be here often, believe me.

Just one question, my skin is very dry. Are we allowed to drink Omega 3 & 6 and if so, will this affect weight loss?

Be checking in again later. Good luck to all us loser...LOL.

Roxy, I know for a fact that you are allowed omega 3 as I'm drinking it as well, Its the only supplement I'm drinking at this moment cause I'm on roacutane and you aren't allowed any vitamin A. Im not sure if omega 6 is safe, but come to think off it, I should check on my bottle cause I think there's something else in, either 6 or 9!!!!

Talking Re: Roxy's Diary

Thanks tinkerbell. I will definately get some this afternoon. Good luck with the roacutane. It really works!! Oh, and let me know about the 6 & 9 please.

Just had to share what I had for lunch today:

1 x Cracker bread
1 x Kiwi fruit
Cottage cheese (allowance) with sweetner
Cucumber veggie allowance

The trusted old cheese cake, one of my favourite meals . Tonight I will be having a fried egg with mushroom, tomatoe and onion sauce on.

I think I need to visit my doc. I am on blood pressure meds but have been getting a headache everyday for the last week and I feel dizzy. I know the diet lowers blood pressure so maybe I can start to go off the meds....wouldn't that be great, another saving from Dr Cohen .
