Dried Mushrooms
I thought I'd try the 'Beautiful Think Curry' posted by HarveyBayShrinker, and found a packet of Hoyt's dried mushrooms in the cupboard so added a couple of dried mushrooms and a shake of the powder in the bottom of the packet. Anyone have any idea regarding dried mushrooms? Would dried mushrooms count as a dried herb, and therefore be outside the weight allowance? The couple I added had no weight at all, but added a good deal to the flavour. I must admit, I never was much of a mushroom eater, but since Cohen's I have used mushrooms frequently. High in tryptophan, they naturally assist in the production of serotonin, the 'feel good' hormone. When I was on Cohen's in 2006 I have never felt better, didn't lose my temper at all and generally wandered around in a serotonin induced haze of well-being So I am now a real mushroom fan, and if dried mushrooms count as a 'herb' and not a 'vegetable' then mealtimes will be a lot more fun! cheers Kristine |

Hi there!
From my experience with the dried chinese mushrooms - you usually have to soak them in water for a while before cooking. So I would assume it's a vegetable and should be counted as part of your allowance. Then again, I could be wrong! |

Hi asmara
No, with the Hoyt's mushrooms you just throw them in when cooking, so they are used as a herb By the way, the curry was really nice - I also sloshed in some apple cider vinegar, and poured the curry over a brown rice cake - so curry 'n' rice was on the menu tonight! |

Oh fantastic! Will go out tomorrow to look out and stock up on Hoyt's mushrooms.
The curry with rice cake is a great idea - thanks! Another to add to my meal plan |

Oh, Pooh!
So ... does the 'dried' rule extend to, say, dried garlic, or just to dried vegetables? I appreciate that mushrooms are in the vegetable category, which is why I asked. You never know your luck in a big city - they may have qualified as a herb! Oh, well, it was only a couple of bits from a very old packet Cheers Kristine Anyway, the rice cake certainly made good rice for the curry! |

Dried garlic is OK, it's a herb. You just can't have any dried vegetables. Even dried fungi.
Sorry... Would be nice, though... Alas, 'twas not to be. asy.

Hey Kristine, I'm starting to question the type of mushrooms you were eating back in 2006
Have a good day. NBS x |

Hahaha NBA
Well, I am starting to think that all mushrooms are Magic Mushrooms! One of Nature's Little Treasures After all, if you had truffles growing in your garden you would be impressed, too! But no, just the usual supermarket 'closed cap' variety, with the occasional supermarket 'field' mushroom thrown in Cheers |
