Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
I am from "the other" forum - some of you may know me. I am wondering if anyone has excess skin and if they have plans to deal with it. I finished cohens on 1/6/2007 and have excess skin on my tummy and have now booked in for a tummy tuck on 29 May 2008. Wondering if anyone else has done the same?? I went from 78.8kgs to 53.0kgs and currently sit at 58.0kgs as I didn't like how flabby my tummy was as 53. I am eating healthy and started running to prepare for the surgery as I would like to be at 53-54 for that. I would love to hear if anyone else has this problem. Cheers Losing

Re: Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
Hi Losing,
Congratulations on your weight loss and completing Cohens! In regards to excess skin - your tummy tuck isnt untill end of May next year. Why dont you try Palmers brand "skin toning lotion" which is especially for skin that has gone thru pregnancy or weight loss. I have been using it while I have been losing weight and have found that my skin is better than ever and is firming up nicely and reducing. Also, on a tip from my beautician - and what I also have been doing for an added boost is buying vitamin E capsules from the chemist or health food shop. Instead of taking them the way you usually do, I just pierce the capsule with a pin and rub the liquid on my skin - that also works really well for me. You can also start doing some excises that target the tummy muscles - sit ups, etc - and as the muscles tone, then it will also help to tone the skin. You can always give it a go and if it helps, then that will save you going into surgery. If it doesnt help, then you have your surgery booked anyway. Just a thought anyway. Nat |

Re: Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
Good question to ask "Losing" - I've only been on Cohens a month and wondering if I'll tone or need surgery as well. Nat, I agree with the Vitamin E capsules - I use them on my skin if I have a fresh scar healing and it fixes it up. Haven't heard of the Palmers - where do you buy that?

Hi I wanted to share that I too have been using Palmers - its great and I have noticed a reduction in my stretch marks in the first couple of weeks! You can get it at the Supermarket, Priceline or Chemist I think it's around $10 - $15 a bottle. I get the push down trigger one and apply at night...it has a strong coconut smell to it

Oh I just read a comment from Asy in a thread called 'for the vertically challenged' that you should wait around 12 months for the skin to shrink back after finishing...its still shrinking!

I have some excess skin around my arms, but no way no surgery, it's getting tighter all the time.

Re: Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
Hi there
Thanks for the hints. Everywhere else my skin is great - it is because I had a big baby and a not so big. I have a c/section scar that shows from the sides of bikinis. My skin is very empty here and just hangs so although I am doing the sit ups etc the only way to fix the problem is surgery. I have been amazed at how the rest of my skin has come back and I can remember thinking that I might end up with saggy skin chin - but didn't - so please don't be put off - it is amazing what the body can do. I even ran this morning and that is something I never did in the past, Cheers

Re: Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
Hi All,
I have been told by the beautician that the best thing is Bio Oil. It is available at chemists and health food shops. I think it maybe a bit dear but supposed to be fantastic. I am getting some this week. This is my only issue as I have a very big overhang on my stomach due to 3 babies and no elasticity in my skin...then to add a body that went to 104.5kgs...it had no hope. I had surgery to correct it but it went really wrong from the start as I bled way to much and he had to stop the surgery very early in to it...now I have been told that I can never have that type of surgery again. So I hope you are all right when you say that it shrinks.

Re: Do you have excess skin- are you thinking of surgery??
Wow - 12 months after - that's good to know - I'd presume we'd have to be following our refeed programme for that to work properly but it's good to know isn't it. Wouldn't mind trying the oil anyway - I'm lucky - I've had 3 kids and have no stretchmarks - I was using a cream for the first one but can't remember what it was called - that was 1975 (maybe it was Palmers - don't know)! But didn't use any for the next 2.
