Question How can i lose more than my goal weight?

Hi,

I've been given my goal weight between approx. 53-56kgs. But i'll like to weigh about 48-50kgs for a few reasons. Is there a way to make that happen? Has anyone lose more than their goal weight?

Please advise if possible.

Thanks.

Wei

Hi Wei,

5kg's seems a lot to go under your goal weight!
How much do you have to loose?

If you read other diaries on here your body will tell you when you are at 'your" natural goal weight.
Some of the signs can be- you start to wake earlier, you get hungry, cranky & moody, you can get lower back pain.
That will be your body telling you are at your natural weight.
Hope that helps.

One further point to those shell has made, Wei. You will have a lot more difficulty maintaining the weight if you go below your natural weight.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Wei,

The "Right Weight" for you is when your body reaches it's metabolic equilibrium.

I wouldn't worry about what the scales say, but rather just keep losing weight until your getting REALLY hungry and you're happy with how you look. THAT will be the right time to start your refeed, irrespective of what weight you're at.

You will find, however, that as a general rule, you'll be within 2 (or so) kg either side of your designated 'goal weight'. Dr C's pretty right about the numbers...

asy

PS: Read Kageisan's diary for inspiration...

Hi Wei

my Cohens goal was 62 to 65, I started re-feed at 58 and only because everyone was giving me the s**ts. In hindsight, I should have gone to 56, which is what I had in mind. I still had fat on my belly (and I was NOT immagining it).

I am now between 57.4 and 59.7, still 2 kilos to high for my liking. I look fine/ great in clothes. I still have at least 2 kilos of fat on my belly and bum/upper thighs. I have not managed to shift that.

I am not obsessed, or anorexic or anything. Anyone who knows me personally would confirm that. I also know I am not 20 anymore. But still, I want to lose that last flab. I have no problem maintaining the weight and feel good.

I will go back to exercising (as I did before Cohens), and maybe that will help convert fat into muscle on those last spots.

Just one question: why do you want to be 48? With me, I have got 3 sisters with about the same height and body composition. They all weight about 56, so I knew that I could be 56 and still be healthy, it was not just a random number I was obsessing with. Also, once I hit 65, then 62, then 60, I still had too much fat for my liking. what is driving you?

Katrin

Hi Katrin,

I've always been the bigger girl among my friends and i can't remember whether i've ever been about 40 something kgs. Anyway, i have a big personal event in Jan09 and there will be about 200 ppl focusing on us and i need to look my very best and fit into nice dresses. There might not be many dresses for me to wear if i'm not slimmer. We'll also be taking many photos. So, that's why i'm pretty desperate.

So, you just kept on going with your original eating plan eventhough you've reached your Cohens goal? Didn't you feel hungry after that? i'm trying to learn from you how to lose more.... . I

've always promised to lose weight after i got married a few yrs ago as i kept on putting on weight. But i haven't done it and there's really no more choice now, i really have to lose all those weight before end of this yr.

I think you are letting emotional issues cloud your judgment. As Asy mentioned, just go until you get hungry enough to eat a horse. Then start refeed. Forget about what the numbers actually are, as it's your health that matters. If you go too low below your recommended just to "fit" into whatever size you are determined to fit into, you won't be the picture of health that's for sure.

Wei, one one point your body will tell you enough is enough. You will get hungry like a horse. It is not about how much you WEIGH, its about how good you look. They told me my goal weight is 52kg like you. At 60kg, I am a size 8, I barely have any fat on me. My only advice to you is to listen to your body, if you at 52kg and have perfect figure, you want to be anorexic at 48kg?

Default Hi Wei,

Well you are in the same boat as me!! My Cohens goal weight is 53-56kg also and I would like to be 48-50kg. I asked the clinic if I could do that and she said no problem, you can go lower than your goal weight if you wish but just not higher. So I guess if we just keep following our original plan we will keep losing until we want to do refeed.

I personally would like to be 48-50kg because I have been 51kg before in my mid 20's and was happy with that but by no means was I slim, still had chunky bits so I know that I could stand to lose a couple more kgs and not look anorexic or unhealthy. I also have had a couple of friends my height and they are both 48-50kg mark and look fantastic - not too thin at all. How tall are you Wei? I am 157cm the clinic says (changes every day ).

I think when you are on the short side every extra kg looks like a lot and I would prefer to err on the side of being lighter and having a little lee way for if I do gain a kg or 2.

Hope this helps.

Oh editing now, I forgot to mention that if you are 157cm 48kg is within the healthy BMI weight range. It is only when you reach a BMI of 18 that is considered underweight according the site I looked at.

Hey I'm a shorty too and my goal weight is 55-52kgs - I'm already a very comfty size 8 and look fantastic in clothes - I can walk into any store and find things to wear - however, having said that, my next concern is that if I do reach the goal weight of 52kgs I will be looking at size 6 clothes! Can you believe that - size 6!! Now I've started looking in the shops and there isn't a lot of size 6 clothes out there - so that is my next concern about loosing too much more weight.

My personal goal was to be comfortable in size 8 and I have now reached that so I'm not sure I want to drop too much more weight. I figure if I reach the low end of 52kgs after maintenance I will be happy to be anywhere between 52-56kgs and so I should be able to maintain it.

How about before you get so fired up and focused on a weight that is below what your should be aiming for, you just get right in and start the program and see how you go. When you are around your low end goal weight - believe me, you will look fantastic, but not because you are a specific number, but because you have just treated your body right. You might then decide that you do want to go a bit longer and lose a bit more - just don't put your horse before the cart or you could be in for a whole lot of hurt and disappointment.

I have concerns that you might have low self esteem if you think you need to be a specific weight to look good. Focus on the good that you are doing for your body and the rest will come and you might be pleasantly surprised how good you look before you reach your Cohen goal weight.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Good luck with it - remember - don't deviate - you are only cheating yourself!

cheers
Irene

I agree with what you said Irene and SMS, it shouldn't be all about the number - if when the low end goal weight is reached and I am happy I will definately stop there. However I know that having being 51kg before I would have been happier being a couple of kg's less, that is just my personal choice. Everyone's body shapes are different so it greatly depends on how our bodies are made what we will look like at the end of the weight loss.

Wei, maybe you will find when you reach your Cohens range you are more than happy to leave it at that, might surprise yourself!

First things first though, get to the Cohens goal weight and decide from there.

Suzie

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies and advice. This is the 3rd time i'm typing my reply. Don't know what i pressed but the whole reply went missing.

Yes, i'll see how it goes when i reach my goal weight. It's still quite far away as i've only lost about 4kgs and this is my 4th wk. I wish i could lose more but i'm glad that i can feel some difference in my body and ppl around me have noticed it too.

Suzie, i'm 162cm.

I've actually eaten a little bit of food/ fruit that i'm not supposed to eat these few days. i better stop that.

Wei

And that is exactly why your weight loss is so slow. Come on gal, buck up. Don't make it longer than it has to be. There will be plenty of time for that after you finish.....

You can do this!

If'n a old man can do it after a life time of eating what I darned well pleased can do it so can a young whippersnapper like you do it and a darn sight easier as well.

Well that's understandable. I wanna err on the side of caution and just be a few kilos under my goal weight too, which is 48-51. It's upto you, like others have said when you feel happy with your body and you start feeling hungry again it means your metabolism had reached the right equilibrium.
