Default YOGHURT - Request for help from members please.

OK...

So we know that yoghurt has to be less than 2% fat, and with no added sugar...

But...

The edict came the other day that Vaalia isn't allowed, which would seem to be contrary to these instructions.

I've been asked to make a list of the yoghurts available on the market and their INGREDIENTS list and nutritional panel.

All these will be submitted to Dr Cohen and the results as to what's allowed and not allowed will be posted here as the definitive guide to yoghurt.

I'd ask that anyone who has a yoghurt variety NOT LISTED HERE (I'll update as I get more yoghurts) please either type out and post here or scan and email it to me at: admin AT newyouforum.com

Also, please feel free to simply type the usual acidophilus and bifidus cultures as 'a&b cultures'.

Thanks.

THESE ARE THE YOGHURTS I HAVE DETAILS FOR ALREADY:

Jalna (with the light green lid)
Brookvale (from Aldi)
Gippsland Natural Organic Low Fat Yoghurt
Yoplait low fat.

PS: Please DO NOT use this thread for discussion, it will be DELETED.

I found the Black Swan No fat Greek Yoghurt in Woolies which is really lovely and smooth and creamy.
It only has 0.15g fat per 100g and carbs 7.7 per 100g.
Ingredients are:
skim milk, milk solids non-fat, fibre (inulin) live yoghurt culters, soy solids.

Hope it passes the grade as it is a really nice one, and it was so hard to find one to replace the Vaalia!

Suzie Im with you, Pauls is awful. Im now having Yoplait filled with Honey Dew Melon and cinnamon. I was told that I can get back to Vaalia when I get to re-feed. That has to be something to look forward to although the Yoplait is a good alternative.

not trying to start a discussion, just wondering if there was any further info about this yet? Unfortunately I have been using Vaalia since the start, and still hate it, and just wondering if I should be changing asap

Hi Nelle

Yep, you should be changing ASAP as Vaalia is too high in fat, (it should be less than 2% per 100g). After refeed you could reuse Vaalia again, but if you hate it, then it would be pointless.

I was advised by my clinic that the only 'allowed' yoghurt now is the Jalna Natural Fat Free with the green lid. I've been looking out for the Tamar Valley and have seen the flavoured variety but not the natural one. I don't mind the Jalna, not as nice as Vaalia though.

Hi Suzie,

Your clinic is wrong (or you've misunderstood them).

You are allowed any yoghurt that is less than 2% fat and plain (unflavoured) with no added sugar. The only exception to this is the Vaalia, which apparently has some ingredient which is not allowed.

Default Jalna with Blue Lid

I previously ate the Jalna Red Lid yoghurt throughout the program and everyday since then

Apparently this was not the 'low fat' variety but I wasn't aware of that and it tasted a lot better than the Green Lid product which was rather watery

Now I have the Jalna Blue Lid 'Low Fat Creamy Yoghurt' variety

This is very nice and is, indeed, of a very creamy texture, almost like whipped cream

However, I rather liked the sour taste of the Red Lid and the Blue Lid is not sour at all

Nutritional Information: 2% Fat

Cheers
Kristine

Ooooooookay...

The official word is:

as I said previously...

You're allowed ANY yoghurt which is less than 2% fat, and has no added sugar.

Now, I've had a few PM's regarding Vaalia and the bruhaha about it not being allowed, and, at one stage it was advised that it's not allowed.

After some investigation, I believe (and it has NOT been verified by head office) that it's due to the inulin in the yoghurt.

After discussion with Vaalia's manufacturers, Inulin is a "Chicory root extract", however, chicory root is specifically disallowed on the programme. Hence I believe that it's the inulin that was the problem.

HOWEVER...

Dr Cohen had another look at the yoghurts we have here in Aus, and rather than testing each of them individually (there are LOTS!) he simply came back with the statement that any Yoghurt is allowed so long as it's less than 2% fat and has no added sugar. The inulin wasn't mentioned.

So, Head Office issued an edict to that effect. So, technically Vaalia is allowed, but, if I were you, and for best effect, I'd steer clear of it if possible.

PLEASE keep in mind this Inulin thing is MY THEORY. It has NOT been proven or acknowledged by Cohens' head office, so I don't know if it's right.

We simply have to go by the rules as set out by Dr C. <2%fat, no sugar.

Hope this clears it all up.

asy.

Default Inulin - Wikipedia

Hi Asy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inulin

Inulin sounds like Nature's answer to saccharin! Apart from the possibility of bloating if not used to it, and if eaten in large quantities, it seems as if it could be added to the yoghurt to enhance sweetness

All very interesting. Thanks for the follow up work

Regards
Kristine

Hi

After following a phone call from my Clinic today. I have just been informed that Yoplait Natural LF yoghurt is no longer allowed. I have a full Dev on my recent BT and it indicates that somehow (don't ask me how)

The lady told me Pauls, Paris creek, and a few others I can't recall are the only allowed Yoghurts. Talk about confusing.

After losing Vaalia and now yoplait, I'm going for eggs. LOL

Well I dont know. Just as well I am only a good leak away from going over to refeed land. I found Vaalia early in the programme and then taste tested some others (YUK!!!!) when Vaalia was blacklisted. Finally found Yoplait and have been on it ever since. dont know what these two blacklisted yoghurts have made to my weight loss whether I would have been finished by now or not but I am there (almost) so I dont see myself changing again. I will stay with the yoplait.

OK...

THIS IS THE OFFICIAL LINE...

Directly from the good Dr himself.

If clinics are telling you anything different to this, please ask them to check with head office because... THEY ARE WRONG.

Yoghurt must be Plain Natural (unflavoured) yoghurt, with less than 2% fat, and NO added sugar.

That's it. That's the official line. Full stop.

However, Inulin, which is an ingredient in some yoghurts (including Vaalia and Tamar Valley) is made from Chicory Root, which is specifically NOT allowed on the programme, and can affect SOME people causing them to show deviations and not lose as quickly as otherwise, so, I would suggest strongly you avoid those yoghurts with Inulin. (MY suggestion, not head office's).

So, to recap, anyone in any clinic telling you anything other than this needs to check their information with head office because they are wrong.

IF this changes, I will post updates here.

asy.
