Question Best Place to Shop

Hi folks,

Am looking for some help in identifying somewhere to buy inexpensive clothing. I'm at the half way mark with clothes falling off and not wanting to pay much for interim stuff.

I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

Hi Scotty..

Congrats on making the halfway mark..

I dont live in Melbourne so I can't comment on cheap clothing stores there.. but I bought A LOT of my clothes during my journey on ebay.. I sold a lot of my fat clothes on their too which in the end paid for my new ones..

Default New clothes

Hi Scottykj,
I dont know what area you are from but in greensborough and dandenong their is an op shop called Savers, they are supposed to have a lot of sample/seconds in stock (as well as heaps of cheap secondhand clothes, which can be in really good condition, last time I was their I picked up a jacket with the tags still on for $5, the tag said $90) I haven't been there for a while so I am not 100% sure what their current stock is like.

Also In Kilsyth their is a shop which stock all sample and seconds stock (near Coles) I picked up 3 outfits for my daughter for under $45 last time I was there.
Not sure where else.

Congrats on making it this far and good luck with the rest of your journey.

My sister is doing Cohens too and she is buying her "in between" clothes at op-shops at extremely cheap prices.

I haven't had to buy any clothes yet because I am fitting into all the old stuff that was too small, but I clung on to them in hope

Default Inbetween Clothes

I've found that most Vinnies stores have had something to get me through. I certainly didn't want to be buying new clothes in each size as i've dropped the weight. So I just bought a few things to keep me going. I've also been lucky enough that the girls I work with have been spring cleaning and I've had bags of clothes to choose from. I think I actually have more clothes now than I had in my wardrobe prior to starting Cohens.

Default dUMP THE FAT CLOTHS !!!!

The most important thing is ...... to dump those huge clothes as you go - so you can never (afford) to go back to wearing them - and the new cloths give you a buzz and boast your confidence at your success to date as well !!!

So throw out your huge sized fat cloths ASAP !!!

I agree...all mine are going in the bin other than one pair of pants that I wore at my heaviest....they will sit in the back of my wardrobe to remind me of where I never want to be again!

Too true! It's a must to dump the fat clothes. My clothes that are still newish (bought on the way up weightwise) are going to the op shop but the others that are really worn out are going in the bin!

What a freeing feeling it is. It's like putting the past behind you. Throwing off the old fat self ...... or like the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis!! And what a metamorphosis it is! Woohoo!

I had someone say to me at the beginning of my journey that I shouldn't get rid of my fat clothes so I'll have something to wear when I put all the weight back on! That made me so cross, it was like she was saying I'd fail before I even started. Mind you, she could do with a few months on Cohen's plan!

Anyway, I'm showing her alright! My weight continues to drop and I've had so many people (even customers) compliment me recently. It's great. One old man could see there was a difference in me but obviously couldn't work out what it was, so he says .... that new hairdo suits you, it makes you look 10 years younger! Lol, my hairdo hasn't changed but my weight certainly has!

Nope, this chicky isn't going back to being fat so why keep fat clothes?!

Opp shops, Scotty. I've found some really good clothes there, brands that normally I wouldn't buy because of the cost. I buy my new clothes there, and drop my old ones off.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm putting some of them into play today! I'm taking my first holiday for 11 years in 4 weeks and have to start shopping. And, yes Andy, I've already thrown out heaps of clothes and sent many more to Vinnies. I'll let you know how I go.

Cheers,
Scotty.

Scotty.

I went with my DD on saturday to Paddington, to the Vintage shops, and got a three "new" tops, size 12 (me being hopeful) and a skirt for $40.

I agree, the vintage shops and St. Vinnies are going to get all my "fat clothes", I think i will recycle. I'm still a little scared to depart with my "fat clothes".

Ive got some great bargains at target, jeans and skirts for under $10 in the bargain racks - brand new but almost as cheap as vinnies.

You really should give the Lifeline Supastores a go. They have amazing sales and at the moment they should be trying to get rid of winter stock. This is the time to buy cheap cheap for next year. The summer stock has just arrived so double the bargains.

I know this because I work at one, and I am constantly amazing at the brand new designer clothes that people give away.

Cheers

Snugglebear the trouble is that there is no point buying for next winter as we should all be in smaller sizes - and isnt it great!!!

Thumbs up Horray for Op Shops!!!

The Op shops are great. Hervey Bay has loads of them, and it is fun to just take a Saturday morning and look at what is around. This week I picked up a pair of size 16 Country Road Pants new still with tags for $10- how good was that buy???? My 15 year old daughter who is also doing Cohens, bought 2 bags full of shirts all of which are highly fashionable for her age group (I am sure the young ones these days must just wear their clothing once and disgard it because these articles she bought were in fantastic condition and some were designer labels). Our shopping this week came to a grand total of $31.50 and we each have practically a new wardrobe now (no more baggy stuff hanging off of us). Impressed!

Default CAMBERWELL MARKET in MELBOURNE

Hey - try the camberwell market (on every Sunday from 7am till 12:30 pm in the carpark underneath Target and Safeway)- it is renowned for the sale of second hand clothing and furniture

It has always been a favorite haunt - and you can take $20 and come out with a bag full of new clothes.

I have gone there the last couple of weeks and bought some amazing buys (that will hopefully, fingers crossed, potentially fit me after as well). You can pick up t-shirts from as little as $2, pants (I bought 2 pairs for $20), dresses, jackets, and even suits if you are lucky.

Just be prepared to scrounge through everybody's stalls and barter. OH - and for the ladies, it is HIGHLY recommended that you wear tights and a skirt / dress, as there are no changing rooms - Its try stuff on over the skirt I am afraid!!!

You can also book yourself a stall if you want to sell all of your old clothes:
