Default How much psyillium husk?

Hi,
i have decided to use psyillium husks instead of metameucil to keep all going as it should, but the guide is really unclear on how much is allowed per day? Does anyone know? I have been stirring about a dessertspoonful into my yoghurt in the morning but not sure if that is not enough, too much?

Thanks

Hiya Krabi, I was told you can have as much as you need. I would say that to make a difference in your BM I would use at least 2 heaped desert spoons a day.

Another question, which i think i know the answer to but want to run it by you all, it seems a coincidence but i have been adding the husk to my diet for the last 10 days or so and this week (i am a weekly weigher) i lost only 100g!!!!! The lowest previous loss for a week in a bad week has been 400g so i am thinking it might be due to the husks as nothing else has changed. Should i persist with it or drop it like a hot potato? My guess would be the latter. Anyone else had this experience??

Hi Krabi,

I started adding psyllium to my yoghurt (am) and stewed apple (pm) just over a week ago - I only had it for three days and had my worst ever week on the program (a gain of 1.2kg). I've stopped adding it this week and have lost 2.9kg so far... I put a lot of it down to psyllium... but there were a lot of other factors at play as well. I hadn't been using it until last week, so I don't think it's a complete coincidence.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Hi Krabi
I'm having exactly the same experience this week. I started taking Psyllium at the weekend and although it's doing what it's meant to do I have actually gained weight which is dreadful. this is the only thing I have changed.

does anyone have any other ideas to solve the BM problem?

I think I will stop taking it now and see where things go.

Barbarella

Hi Barbarella

There's a Constipation and BM thread in the main forum under Health and Medical Issues, lots of good tips. I eat a lot of spinach and silverbeet which seems to do the trick for me but I also have about 2 teaspoons of psyllium a WEEK. Yep that's all. I make Ez'z little apple or mango cakes about twice a week and each time bulk them up a bit with a teaspoon of psyllium. (You'll find some great recipes on the Recipes, Tricks and Tips thread.) But even with that tiny amount I notice a big difference to my BM. I think the psyllium reaaly absorbs a lot of water and bulks up, could be the reason for the weight gain.

Hi All

I have been having just over a teaspoon (as per instructions on the pack) every morining with my yoghurt...Yum! and it has helped heaps! I am now regular everyday!

I think the key really is to make sure you keep up the water intake.... I have been having over 3 litres of water every day and the lady at the store specifically said to make sure I had more than normal water when using it... I have had some of my best losses this last week too (although I think this is unrelated due to it being recent gains etc)...

Just some of my thoughts!

blessya
