Default The quest for Caro!

Hi there everyone.....long time lurker.....first time poster!

For my first attempt a few details...... I am overweight, not just overweight.....I am obese. It has taken me a long time to say that out loud....but on with the details.

I am 38 years old and have about 40 kilos to lose, I received my program this week and decided that Wednesday 14.04.2010 was a good day to start..... the first 3 days will be taken up by work and by the weekend I should be into the swing of things, and be able to check out a cool ticker!

The stars in my life are:the significant other, the wicked housemate, the family combo (think Waltons and Munsters with a hint of Brady), the fishes - Goldie, goldie, roger and the suckers and the friends (who shall henceforth be known as "the Watchers"). Oh and the additional 40kgs.......

Soooooo, all good through Day 1 - no adverse effects yet.....unless you consider the mounting shopping list as I read the recipe book a bad thing.

Looking forward to Day 2!!!!!!!!!

I just had to update..... the Mustard Chicken from the recipe book was sensational!!!

Now really looking forward to Day 2!!!!!!!!!!

Hey CJ,

Welcome to the Cohens family!
You've come to the right place (this forum) for support and motivation and advice/help!
Hope day one went really well!
Day 2 and 3 can be a little tough going, as detox sets in then, usually in the form of a headache, so take some nurofen or something, as you don't have to suffer! Then that is the hardest part out of the way, and you will then hit the zone after your first week!

Enjoy the journey and shedding those kgs!

Vee

Hey Caro. Hope all goes well for you. This is a fabulous program, and the more you read, the more you will see that you have made the right decision.

Remember a couple of my favourite motivational mantras:

Food is fuel not entertainment

Success breeds success

Nothing tastes as good as slim feels

Best of luck on your journey!

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcomes and the encouragement.

Day 2 went well, I got hungry in the afternoon, but thanks to the posts on this site, I was prepared. Although a 'Watcher' did comment on how slowly I ate my apple and crackers!!!!

Then tonight before dinner I heard my tummy growl....... I can't remember the last time I was really, seriously, actually hungry!!!

Anyhoo, time to sign off, be kind to yourselves and live the life you want to live!!!

Wow, Friday afternoon Day 3 is almost over and I thought that I would post after reading some other Diaries.

It took me about 38 years (or maybe just the last 20) to put this weight on and here it is coming off.....finally.

And this got me thinking........ when my friends need help I give them encouragement and support to help them reach their goals....... so I have decided to treat myself like my own best friend, if I start to think negatively I will stop and remind myself ........ would I say that to a friend?

So Day 3 has gone really well, I took nurofen for a headache last night, but how cool is it to blame a headache on DETOX (Out! damned toxins, out I say!).

I read some recipes on the forum last night and decided to microwave an apple and mix it with my yoghurt this morning - OMG how heavenly was that, who knew that natural yoghurt could be so good!

I am enjoying experimenting with herbs and the taste of food without adding salt - the SO and the WH are away for another week and are waiting to taste some of the Cohen recipes. So this week I will be testing and menuing - As my home ec teacher always said - organisation is the key!

Sooooooo, be one of your own best buddies! Caro

Hi Caro - welcome to Cohen's and the forum! You'll have a blast!

You sound great!

Organisation is the key indeed - it makes everything easy.

I know what you mean about REALLY being hungry - I enjoy this feeling now as it tells me the diet is working.

I also started mid-week. Why wait for a Monday?

You'll reach the zone soon and then you'll feel even better!

Welcome again my orange-peel-eating comrade!

Wow Day 3 was great, I am really enjoying eating so clean although I don't think I will be out of bed for long, but no hunger and no headache.

I found a really good Whiting in woolies, Lakes Entrance 350gm, perfect small whiting fillets, which means more fillets for 110gm!!!!! Just pan fried with a little garlic powder!!

I also had my first social thingy - at SO's work social club - made good choices though and had coke zero and crackers as I got there and as a reward I bought some pretty candles! Gosh I love being my best friend!!

Roll on weekend, treat yourself to some fun if you can, you deserve it!

Welcome!! It sounds like you are already well into the swing of the program! It sounds like you have a great attitude and I love it that you are being your own best friend and being kind to yourself!

As you know from reading the program it does work and it works more quickly than many other programs, which personally I find very motivational! Keep up the great work and you will be amazed at how soon you will be buring down the numbers on the scales and having to discard your baggy clothes!!

Sooooo Day 4 has been awesome!

Weekend brekky's are great, more time to experiment, so I had bruschetta! Two crackers topped with a salsa of tomato, green caps, garlic and some spring onion with some dried parsley, a squirt of spray oil topped with shaved mozzarella..........absolute bliss.

Lunchtime I had some beef strips marinated in mustard paste and for dinner fried tofu........ what can I say, I looooooove tofu (and orange peel, and kiwifruit skin!!)

I was going to have the whiting fillets again but the fish saw me take the box out of the freezer and I felt bad!!!! With everyone in the house away at the moment they are all I have to talk to, Blu Cooza this doesn't sound weird does it???

Hmmmmm dangerous territory tonight though, dad's house has a bottomless lolly jar and beer fridge, two of my favourite food groups.......NOT ANYMORE!!! That jar helped to get me where I was....... so 'LOLLIES YOU NO LONGER HAVE ANY POWER OVER ME!!!!'

Today I looked at some smaller clothes and tried to imagine how it would feel when I could put them on! Will I still be the same? I know I will think differently, but how differently..........it's good to question why you do the things you do and I know I will appreciate this "Quest for Caro"

Hope you all did all you could today! Caro

P.S how cool is the line dancing banana, watch him all the way through, he moonwalks!!!!

Well today I spent the day at home on the couch with DVD's and the computer getting over hopefully the last of my cold.......

Staying home today has made me realise jus how much I eat that I don't need, I haven't been hungry at all so I must be eating enough to satisfy by body..... so why did I used to reach for a box of shapes while watching a movie??

I trawled a lot of Diaries during the day and there are so many people out there who share their stories, their experience and their support, I just can't thank the people who have really inspired me. I got heaps of recipes too and may just run out of programme before I run out of recipes!

So this entry brings me to the end of Day 5.... and so far I am travelling really well, I am so pleased with the results I wish I'd found this years ago.......but I'm so glad I found it now.

I have a weekend away at the end of this week which has me a little worried but I have worked out my menu and should be okay taking meals I just have to get super-organised...... The SO and the WH fly back in and I can't wait to see them, wonder if they will see a change yet..... oh and I miss them.

I hope all those weekend weddings went well for everyone........ catch up with you through the week.

Caro

Hehe - one helluva rhetorical question right there, CJ - but, what good learnings you are undertaking right now eh? Keep those thoughts uppermost, and I suspect you will be another Cohen success story !!

Wow - go back and re-read your diaries! This is from my Day 4 - those smaller clothes feel great and I look at them on the line and think WOW, I cannot believe it, and how differently do I think - well, apart from my developing princess complex:

I don't have to go along with things I don't agree with so I don't bring attention to myself;
I can sit by myself and have coffee in a cafe because I am worth spending time with;
I think that people are on their own journey and everyone is dealing with something - so be nice!
I feel comfortable in my own skin!
I really believe in my abilities!

Hmmm I'm very impressed that you noticed, my online name is short for Aurora as in sleeping beauty/greek goddess, do I detect another disney fan?? If you hadn't already guessed I have a bit of an obsession with disney movies. My real name is Faye, wish it was Aurora I love that name, I named my golden retriever Aurora and then realised a bit too late that means I can't name any future children that as it would be really weird giving my child the same name as our dog.

Gee that was a bit of a random rant, anyhoo wow look at you 6.1 in not even a week congratulations that is awesome.

O and how the bloody hell do you make fried tofu, I gave it a try tonight and it didn't go so well it just kept sliding around the pan leaving burnt crust stuck to the pan so then I just mushed it to warm it up and ate it, didn't taste too bad though.

Hey there groovers,

Karyn - i know it's insane isn't it but I'm completely ready for when it slows down (hope it doesn't but from what I've read it probably will). Thanks for the thanks - you are inspiring!

Koh - I am apparently all about rhetorical questions, since I've started every time I speak to the SO I ask so many of them that he now asks "do you want an answer or should I just listen?" and he does listen.

My best question has been - if this is enough food, how come we eat so much more?
The best answer has been - how often do you judge the value of a meal by the size instead of the flavour?

Which got me thinking he is exactly right, think haute cuisine (those tiny portions, those big plates). It's probably exactly the quantity that most of us are eating for our Cohen meals. Got that in your minds?????

Now think the local RSL with its good wholesome family meals (those huge portions, those big plates). Seriously a 350gm t-bone.... that is three meat allowances for me!!

Today was Day 6 and the only day I have not weighed myself, thought about it alot but I don't want a number to set the tone of my day! My work pants fit better, the tape measure shows a great loss and I feel great..... what more do I need? I know that I will not last 4 weeks to weigh-ins but I will try to go at least a week...... or at least a couple of days.

I started the morning with fish salsa on crispbreads....AWESOME! but I did get hungry mid afternoon so I used the old splitting up the fruit snacks trick...

Now after dinner I am checking out some diaries before I get into bed, the cold is one sleep away from being gone.

And lets all go haute cuisine on ourselves and judge yourself by the quality and not the quantity......... Caro!
