Dear All

Well, I have my diet, have my food and this morning had my first breakfast at 9:45 am of Yoghurt and two kiwi fruit totalling 120g.

So as of 27 Feb 07, the new me is coming home.

Will need some direction Asy on setting up my ticker. My wife and I are goind to measure , weight and photo the old me around midday so will add these ASAP.

One question though: in fruit it says you can have 2. But for melon it says 160g and same for kiwi fruit. So is 160g the total day allowance or per helping, so is one of the two?

I will also need to get up earlier for the 5 hour break to work. And may I ask, do you count the 5 hours from start of meal to start of meal? or end of meal to start of meal?
Regards, Peter 14.7

How many fruit servings are you allowed (allocated) each day?

I was allocated 3 servings per day. Basically one per meal.

I took the standard of 1 medium apple, 160 grams kiwi (2 medium pealed) as the standard by which I consider other fruits, basically no more than what a medium apple or 2 kiwi's look like.

If you have been allocated 2 servings it means a total of 320grams per day separated by at least 1 meal (5 hours), I would recommend fruit for breakfast and maybe if you can around 4pm at your desk.

I am not sure about end to end or end to start 5 hour limit, I didnt get that concerned about it, but then again it doenst take long for me to eat my Cohen meal even if I eat it slow and chew each monthful. Just do you best to keep the start to start over 5 hours.

Hi Peter,

LF pretty much summed it up. 160g is a single fruit serve. Like you, I only get 2 a day.

As for the 5 hour gap, I try to err on the side of caution and plan a 5 hour break starting from the end of the first meal to the start of the second.

Hello All

FRUIT
Is two servings. I agree fruit for brekkie is good. I am not big brekkie eater anyway. I will also assume 160g is peeled Kiwi fruit.

MEAL SPACING
I will also err on 5 hour between. I am ok hungrey wise but need to work that water.

WATER
I am only at 600ml.

My wife bought my some great detox herbal tes so that will help with giving up Coffee which I have decided to do as wel for the time being. I iwllnot count this.

I have ben told to start with 2 litre water and build up by 1 litre a week utill I get to 4 litre, which is my target.

HUNGER PAINS
So far no hungrey but I ususaly never am that much. My metabolisim must be so stuffed.

HOW HEAVY & GOALS?

Did my weight in and I am 112kg.
My goals is 76 to 79kg.

So I might set internal goals of

99kg being under 100kg
94 kg being under my 1998 weight of 895kg
89kg being under 90kg
79kg being under 80kg
then I will see.

On a side issue I willsave $$$ on not buying coffee and food out all the time. I am a social eater and love cafes.

Time for a cracker even though I am not hungrey. DO you recomend eating crackers if the urge is not there?

Thanks, Peter

FWIW, i count 5 hours or 2.5 hours from the time I end the meal...and I round it up to the nearest half or hour mark.

so if I finish a meal at 12.40, I will calculate 5 hours from 1.00pm

sorry, last one....

it's really important, particulary the first 10 days, to make sure you have all your fruit and your crispbreads.

it took some time, but i'm in a routine now, i have 1 crisp with brekky, 2 with lunch, 1 for afternoon tea and 1 with dinner, and i have my fruit at morning tea, and then as a desert...

you'll figure out what feels best for you.

Thank Jo on the crisps and fruit note.

My post was confusing as I can have two fruit any time and not the five hours. Sorry.

Makes me supported ot see so many on line with Newbie.

Peter

PS my 1998 weight was 95kg not 895kg to clarify a typo.

Hello Again

If you don’t mind Lessfatty I would like to use you intro points and meal updates. I feel by listing my meals I can better chart nay issues. Like a true diary. So for me:

Name: Peter 14.7
Rank: Director of own Facility Management Company
Sex: Male
Age: 40
Status: Married 18 years, 1 daughter aged 18 months.
Location: Provincial Victoria but business is Sydney so I fly a lot.
Starting Weight: 112KG
Starting Day: 27 -Feb -2007
Program: Cohen via Geelong Clinic. AU$680 for 12 weeks or as needed
Reason for Start: Realised that:
1. I did not look attractive anymore (had a better image than reality).
2. A three month stint in the Gym (like previously) was not going to cut it.
3. If I do not act now, I will die young and/or have a very poor quality of life.

Summary: So as planned in 2006 family moved to Country Victoria. I have the new lifestyle, financial success, wonderful wife and a lovely baby daughter so no excuses. Now is the time.

Just to clarify, eating your 2 servings fruit "anytime", it would be reasonable that you need to separate the period you eat the servings by a number of hours.

The big picture of the program is to keep your blood sugar (glucose) and hence the insulin hormone levels at low levels during the longest period of the day.

If you ate all fruit servings in one hit or in a short period (eg 1 serving at breakfast and then another full serving for morning snack), your body may not had time to consume the sugars of the first serve, then with more sugars from the new portion of fruit you would get a insulin spike and thus disrupt the effects of the program. So in my opinion spread out your consumption of fruit through the day, 5 hours between full servings of fruit (2 kiwi or 1 apple) or at least 2.5 hours between 1/2 servings (1 kiwi, 1/2 apple) etc. This is also the same for crackers not all at once or in too short a period. I think the rule is at least 2.5 hours betwen cracker servings

If you make a typo, you can click the "edit" button on your post and correct the mistake.

Peter, you don't need to post to test the ticker, just look for any one of your old posts. The ticker will show up on all of them.

Also, remove the first and last lines in the ticker code and only use the middle one, that'll get rid of the superfluous lines in your ticker.

Hiya Peter.

The coffee wasn't a problem (so long as it was black!), but I don't think we can have equal, can we?

I use hermesetas, but I'm not 100% sure what the other sweeteners are...

Buy a little wallet pack of them, it's the size of a fat credit card, and then you'll always have a few on you.

Use of Equal

Thanks so much, Asy. I called the Clinic and yes, it is a No. No.!

Clinic said being only 1 it will not affect me I think that may be a pep talk. They also said Hermesetas Original was ok but not the new one?

FYI Why equal is bad is because it contains Aspartame. So I looked this up in Wikipedia and found this.

Thanks for the alert, will buy some Hermesetas ASAP, Peter 14.7

Aspartame,

is the name for an artificial, non-carbohydrate sweetener, aspartyl-phenylalanine-1-methyl ester; i.e., the methyl ester of the dipeptide of the amino acids aspartic acid and the essential amino acid phenylalanine.
This sweetener is marketed under a number of trademark names, such as Equal, NutraSweet, and Canderel, and is an ingredient of approximately 6,000 consumer foods and beverages sold worldwide. It is commonly used in diet soft drinks, and is often provided as a table condiment. It is also used in some brands of chewable vitamin supplements and common in many sugar-free chewing gums. However, aspartame is not always suitable for baking because it often breaks down when heated and loses much of its sweetness. In the European Union, it is also known under the E number (additive code) E951. Aspartame is also one of the sugar substitutes used by diabetics.

Metabolism
Upon ingestion, aspartame breaks down into several residual chemicals, including aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, and further breakdown products including formaldehyde[7] and formic acid. There is some controversy surrounding the rate of breakdown into these various products and the effects that they have on those that consume aspartame-sweetened foods (see Aspartame Controversy, below).
The naturally-occurring essential amino acid phenylalanine is a health hazard to those born with phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited disease that prevents the essential amino acid phenylalanine from being properly converted into Tyrosine and eventually being metabolized. Since individuals with PKU must consider aspartame as an additional source of phenylalanine, aspartame-containing foods sold in the United States must state "Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine" on their product labels.

Diet Sprite is a recommend cooking ingredient and it along almost every one of the allowed diet drinks contain an abundance of Aspatame. For example diet coke and cafeine free diet coke, contain about 1/2 a gram of aspatame per liter.

There are many things on this diet that just dont make sense. So if equal is a no-no based on the Aspatame reason then all diet drinks should also fail for the same reason.

May be it is the dosage level? Or the mix? My book says it must be caffeine free version.

I checked Diet Coke on Wiki and it does contain aspartame in most countries including Aus.

I guess I will stick to the proven ones.
