Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
G'Day
The recent thread about rice cakes, and the innovative recipes posted by loulou and others, has got me thinking about crispbread and the uses we can put them to During 2006 I used crispbread as snacks eg ate 2 Vita Weat mid morning with an apple, ate another 2 during the afternoon, managed to eat another 2 somewhere else during the day, usually as accompaniment to a meal – but still as crispbread. Unless I used the Premium Lite as a base for the mini-pizza, I can’t recall using the crispbread as part of a meal ie as part of a recipe My program lists these crispbread: Vita-weat – original or cracked pepper Paradise Lite – white, wholemeal or cracked pepper Provita (kosher) Rice cake – thin Ryvita – plain Salada Lite has since been approved This covers wheat, rice and rye cereals I want to be a bit more adventurous with all the foods on the shopping list, So: How do you eat your crispbread? I: Eat Vita Weat by themselves or with a cut up apple Eat rice cakes as ‘rice’ in the bowl with a stew poured over (the rice bubbles literally ‘snap, crackle ‘n’ pop’ and the grains separate so there really is ‘rice’ in the bowl Eat rice cakes or Salada as the base for a mozzarella mini-pizza What about Ryvita – does anyone use these? Ryvita is not salted and has a nice, nutty flavour but is very dry to eat by itself. Would Ryvita be good pulverised and used in desert type dishes eg stewed apple crumble, the cakes which loulou makes, or the cheesecake recipes? I don’t think that I have ever eaten Provita – does anyone eat these and what do they taste like? Are they similar to Ryvita? Given that some people are on a 5 crispbread per day program, and others on a 6 crispbread per day allowance, sharing how we use them may provide a bit of variety rather than just eating them as a snack or as an accompaniment to a meal Cheers Kristine By the way, I have weighed the products I have: 2 x VitaWeat = 13 gms 4 x plain Salada Lite squares (one whole crispbread) = 14 gms 1 x plain rice cake = 6 gms |

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
i like to eat my crackers crushed up on soft fruit in particular mango and kiwi fruit. Just gives it an extra crunch.
It depends on the meal as to when i eat them. One of my treats is cheese, tomato and crackers with apple. Yum. It is best to eat them when you need them. |

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
I sometimes use ricecake allowance in my soupy dishes like my prawn and chilli concotion with a crushed up rice cake gives it some density.
I love also to have it for breaky a rice cake or salada with melted allowance of cheese on top. My favourite though is keeping it simple with my lunch of cheese and salad allowance. Yummo! Specially now in summer...

I like to eat them plain but with a cup of hot coffee or tea. I love to savour them for the longest time in my mouth.

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
I like vitaweats. For a snack or meal accompaniment, I give them a light spray of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and fresh ground pepper. Then I use one of my flax seed oil capsules (from allowance) to squeeze over the top. I find them delicious! I don't know if the light spray of olive oil is too much of a deviation. If so, just the flax seed oil would be nice, if you like the taste.

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
I only use Salada - my allowance.
I have mine as: 1. Mock Up Cake / Doughnut 2. Coating (crushed with herbs) for my meatballs or chicken balls 3. Thickening in my Spicy meatball sauce 4. Crackers with kiwi instead of crackers with Jam 5. Base for my apple slice / apple pie / cheesecake I use my mortal & pestle to make it a very fine, almost like flower substance. This helps a lot with coating and thickening in my foods. Last edited by EEEE; 30-12-2014 at 13:29. |

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
If you want to loose weight, there is sacrifice, commitment and most important DISCIPLINE.
For the 6 months that I committed to this lifestyle change, I might as well enjoy the ride and make my own yummy goodies. I read a lot of recipes all day long, so the ideas was born out of boredom and "what if's". |

Re: Crispbread - How do you eat yours?
We are allowed 1 rice cake (Counts as 2 crackers) which is obviously unflavored.
I take my yoghurt + cinnamon + 1 sweetener and mix it. I then put the rice cake in a bowl and add the yoghurt over the rice cake and leave overnight in fridge. Tomorrow morning you have rice pudding. |
