Default When do you have breakfast?

When do you have breakfast?

OK I know the obvious answer is "in the morning"

What I mean is do you have breakfast as soon as you get out of bed, maybe after your shower, maybe you go and buy a paper and then have breakfast or do you perhaps drive to work first and then have breakfast. What do you do?

The reason I ask is that I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I have real difficulties facing food at 6.00am in the morning when I first get up. I prefer eating breakfast at around 8.30-9.00am regardless of what time I get out of bed but that means I could be up for 2-3 hours before I eat. Is that a bad thing? Would it affect my metabolism or weight lose if I did that.

For the record I currently eat as soon as I get up but it is a sorry sight to see poor me sitting there shoving food in my mouth that I don't really want to eat.

Hey Terry!

I am a habitually 'running late' person and I was waiting to eat brekkie when I got to work at around 9 ish, after waking at 7:30... I mentioned it to my consultant and she said I should be eating my meal 1 within 30 mins of waking up! I now make the effort to get up earlier and breakfast is pretty much my number 1 priority!

Check with your clinic and she/he may offer different advice as we know clinics do differ. But it made sense to me. You haven't eaten all night and then if you stay awake without eating for too long you are running on nothing and that can equal starvation mode... and can bring on cravings and munchies.

Craig and I eat our breakfast at 7am - we wake up at 6am.

I'm not sure if it would make a difference with weightloss, however i am a mere follower of Dr Cohen and not the DR making the rules lol.

Lil_doll, i was unaware you needed to eat it within 30 minutes... thank you for your info

I wake up, stretch and avoiding getting out of bed for 10 minutes of so. LOL I'm out of bed by 6.30am and eat before 7.30am. I think you should eat sooner rather than later to get your metabolism started.

Some times I wake up and curse how long it takes to put yoghurt into a dish I am so hungry! Lol!

Lately though, I haven't been hungry upon waking but within 10-15minutes my body is making noises and asking for food.

I guess it also depends when your last meal was, if you are eating later then you haven't been fasting as long as someone that last ate at 5.30pm

So it's all relative and will involve your own bio-chemistry too.

I need to eat quite close to waking (so I eat between 6-7.30am) depending on when I wake though...if its a sleep in day it will be 7.30am, if its a work day early, because I need lots of time to get ready! LOL!

I'm up at 6am every morning. I have to take my thyroid meds close to an hour before eating, so take it as close to 6 as possible, then will eat breakfast at 7, sometime 6.50.

Up around 5.50-6am, coffee then make breakfast at 6.30am. It's 6.45am by the time I'm eating (with 2nd coffee). If I ate any earlier, I'd be looking for lunch by 9.30
Same routine for weekends....just slightly later

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have seen some other information suggesting that 30 min-1 hour is the maximum time you should leave between getting up and eating breakfast which does make sense when you look at it logically if you want to kick start the metabolism. I was just wondering what everyone else does or how you cope.

I am fine on the weekends and holidays because I will get up later than 6.00am like 7.30-9.00am and I don't have difficulty eating at that time of the morning. I guess I am not a morning person. Maybe I should just go on a permanent holiday I will ask my wife and see if she is willing to keep working to support my holiday lifestyle. Wish me luck
