Psyllium husks
Hi all
I have been reading allot about psyllium husks. I love the health benefits that you can get if you use it. Question I have is how do I use it in my day to day food? Not a big fan of drinking the stuff. Any recipes or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Re: Psyllium husks
I used in my cooking (as well as drinking it - which is vile lol) just a level teaspoon and 1/2ish cup of water makes a nice sauce, a teaspoon in stewed apple, add just a little more water than usual, I also made little fruit cups things in a silicone muffin tray...crushed crisbread, what ever fruit your using, sweentener, cut up fruit, bit of water, psyllium, zap in the microwave, mix a little of the fruit into the salada, press it into the muffin cup, pour fruit in on top, refridgerate (that recipe is in the recipe list...fruit jelly I think I called it?) mock rum balls also had psyllium husk in it as well.
I found when I cooked it that I couldn't notice the psyllium at all. |

Re: Psyllium husks
I would add a tsp into my yoghurt along with a grated apple and cinnamon for brekkie.

Use it like breadcrumbs. What a great idea. I add a teaspoon to my yoghurt each day.

Re: Psyllium husks
asked the consultant about this yesterday, and she recommended that I only use 1/4 teaspoon at the very most at this stage in the plan....I am thinking if I leave it out to when I am screaming hungry like the people getting close to their goal on here, I might not get the starving torture

Re: Psyllium husks
Thanks all for your wonderful replies!! You are right Jessy I asked my consultant about it and she said to go ahead but that it might cause water retention. The health shop that I bought it from mentioned that you can basically add it to any type of food you want to give bulk to.
Ciors I read about your rum balls in your diary and my mouth watered so much!! I am gonna try it in my yogurt to see how it comes out. But really want to try and make a nice veggie soup where I can add this to thicken the soup a bit.

Thickening soup with psyllium husks is a great idea. Might have to try that one.

Re: Psyllium husks
I've done a cleanse where all you drank was psyllium husk and apple juice for three days, nothing else. It cleanses you alright. My eyeballs were bright white.
With the husk you have to remember to drink a lot of water so that you don't get constipated. May add to a soup to thicken - great suggestion that. |

Re: Psyllium husks
Hi Bloomie - I use psyllium husks when I want to binde my frittatas, meatballs or patties. Must admit, once cooked, the end result tends to have a "gel" like effect. Also, I only use if it I have zip cracker allowance remaining for the day!! A teaspoon goes a long way ..... hope this helps.
