Default Biggest Loser 2013; The next generation

Hey all!!

Anyone watching this series of Biggest loser Australia?
http://thebiggestloser.com.au/

I tuned in last night... The first ep was a little 'meh' to me, but I know that when they have their first weigh in and the tears and realisations begin then I will be 100% into it!

Apparently it is on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:30 pm.

Would love to have a discussion thread about it.

I have always wanted to go on this show, not because i can say i was a biggest loser, but just for the motivation and support they give to exercise etc.....

Now that i have found Cohen's i think this is the best support place to be.

Will need to find out when its aired here in NZ... i love watching it!!

Yay, glad others are interested

I find when I watch the contestants cry and work out so hard- all red faced and in pain, it makes me love Cohens even more! I actually think the amount of exercise they do is crazy. It would put so much stress on your body... Basically when I watch it, I think THANK GOD that isn't me!

BUT, I do love watching the transformations... They go the same struggles as anyone trying to lose weight, only they do it in fast forward.

I am getting the tissues ready for tonight's episode... It's going to be a tear jerker!

I always cringe at the amount of stress they physically put those huge bodies through! Carrying twice your weight around and punishing it like that can not possibly be good for you! Your heart, your joints, your self esteem!

But, yes, I'm addicted too!

So last nights episode was emotional. The first weigh ins always are.

I always find myself comparing myself to the contestants. Although a lot of them are 'bigger' than me, and bigger than I was when I started... There were still a couple that are smaller. That makes me cringe. Looking at them, they seem bigger than me... But maybe not. Must have had my fat goggles on again!

I went on the website before... hoping they would have put their heights and starting weight, but no such luck. I would like to be able to know their BMIs and maybe what their goal weights would be.

There were some interesting 'topics' last night too. Like that guy who was totally in denial and saying his weight wasn't affecting him! Yeh, the Commander sure got him sorted. One training session is all it took. haha.

And the other thing I found interesting was the mother-daughter duo, Janet and Kirsten. And how the mother was telling her she really needed to do something about her weight as if her own weight wasn't an issue- or that her health wasn't important. I can see they are going to have some issues. I think the mother is in denial.

There are so many young people in this years comp. All of the young girls I really identified with and how they were saying they were hiding out and not living. It's really sad. And that 19 year old girl who was in the 130's saying she feared being judged. SO true.

That really young boy is heartbreaking too... 17 years old. I really hope he and his dad can stay in the comp and learn some good habits.

That's another thing I really hate about this show. I don't think it should really be a comp where you get eliminated. I don't really see the point. They all come back for a finale anyway and all that matters then is their weight loss percentage so why not keep it that way the whole series. All of the contestants need to be there, as they have in other series too. I reckon they should only leave when they 'quit' and not be voted out. Yeh it causes drama which equals good tv, but I don't think the show needs it. I don't know.

They went in to a fair amount of detail recently about their cals in and out.

They are on 1000 a day and need to exercise twice a day and burn 600 cals each workout!

That is a small amount of food- like our type and that is a lot of exercise! And what about people who might be watching and then trying to copy it. tsk tsk. It's dangerous! AND, I hate the product placements!!! Last night shannon did the most obvious one ever! Um, hello, we saw you in the ads during the ad break! Grrr.

Aside from all my gripes about the show, I do love the journey. Last night was a tear jerker. And I can't believe how hard that new 'heavy weight' (that name infuriates me!) was working on the treadmill. Imagine how much strain his body is under.

Meanwhile, I have a crush on the commando, but I am also scared of him... But his eyes are kind, which is why I think he wear sunnies so often. I'm on to you commando!

It scares me how much strain they put those bodies under. No wonder they have medics on hand! Would love to see the waivers they have to sign!

That poor boy, being so dreadfully big! I feel for him!

Me too, Dezzy... Poor guy

And that's why I don't think contestants should get eliminated. I would be just as interested in the show if there weren't eliminations. Although I suppose how would they keep them motivated without them?... I would say the public humiliation would be enough for me!

Agree ladies. The competitions could be changed to have new power options instead of immunity. It'd be great to see everyone walk out of the house together.

Agree! Those bodies are absolutely smashed by these workouts... it can't be safe. I am not surprised they have medics and actually use them too!
The poor fella being as big as he is...makes ya sad really.
I agree about the product placement too! Cringe!!

I always watch - but it's nicer watching this time knowing that I'm well on my way to not being the fat person in a crowd.

After being on Cohens and knowing how it can be a lifelong eating plan - it's hard to watch The Biggest Loser contestants being presented with that amount of exercise and being told they have to keep it up or put the weight back on.

What about a Cohen's Biggest Loser - I guess it'd be boring: No tears, No sweat, No swearing at your trainer!

Yes, it's a bit interesting this show...I am truly frightened by how hard they push the contestants, but also at the sooking of the contestants...I feel embarrassed watching them cry as they walk up a sand hill...and not going to training when they could be eliminated...it's all very very interesting.

I was horrified to see that they use meal replacements! Where's those two gorgeous trainers from MKR with their delicious healthy food??? And why don't they have a nutritionist on this show teaching them about food? I thought a dr used to host this show, or is that too boring now?

I finally caught up on some eps last night.

Wow that mum Rosemary is on the scary side. I get she wants to protect her son, but it's called enabling. I mean I feel completely sorry for him and really want him to succeed, but I think BL is the wrong choice for him. No way is all that exercise good for a man on over 250 kilos!!!!!!!!!!! No way! He needs to get his diet in check and the weight will come off then anyway... Then start working hate.

I cannot believe the outcome of that episode though. I thought the trainers were going to pull some shifty move and like vote out the 2 mums and leave the children in the game. I mean that was ridiculous!

I CANNOT STAND THAT AMBER GIRL AND HER DAD IS A JERK HEAD. (ha, sorry for caps). She is a spoilt little so and so and needs a good foot up the bum. And her Dad (and probably mum) is where she has learnt that behaviour.

I feel like I strongly relate to Kirsten (I think)... I have had those same issues of feeling like I am in the background of my family and food was definitely my escape.

Oh Rosemary was terrible, wasn't she!? Totes right Lil Dol, she is an enabler. Kevin admitted that he didn't follow the plan and she still wouldn't hear of them even asking him if he was following it properly. Sheesh. She was very defensive.

Also agree that Amber is a brat and gets it from her Dad. I've forgotten which one Kirsten is, the pink team? They are doing well!
