Hi Andy,

It's incredible, isn't it. Like Asy, I was able to speed read it too with very little difficulty. Yet, the originators need to check their own rules:-

1. fi yuo cna raed tihs, yuo hvae a sgtrane mnid too Cna yuo

Those bolded words DON'T make the grade (first and last letters in the right place) - but, since they are common, and quickly realised as a "spelling mistake", we counteract accordingly.

2. THIS one leapt out at me !!
Quote:
aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy
The copy typist was having a bad day - since when does "research" have ten letters? Or was it meant to be "researcher"? If so, the are too many "ch"'s and not enough "er"'s :P But it ends with an "h" instead of an "r". Research or researcher?

I don't reckon it was you, Andy - you're smart enough to just "cut'n'paste" - so I reckon it was the original source that was just a little bent out of shape. Anyway, I'm just being pedantic - and, seriously, I was surprised that I was able to read things almost as quickly as usual. I guess I'm just no longer convinced about "the first and last letters need to be in the right place" (or about some researchers )

Koh

PS keep 'em coming though, mate - you seem to have some VERY interesting sources

Yea - Its interesting - and you need something to (1) Keep the mind ticking (2) have a laugh (3) put my poll up near the top !!!!!!!!

I cut and pasted - I have been the worst speller all my life - Mum was my teacher for my earlier days and I used to slip away a bit - was not really into schooling then when I had 16 000 acre's of scrub to explore like Captain Cook !!!!!!!!!!!! little did I know my future then - and have tpyed every day for the last 30 years. !!!!!

I have lots of informants !!!!!!!! so watch out !!!!!!!

Will post more later - in emerald tonight - in a flash motel with slow dial up so will catch up on the two pages of posts for today before I nod off - left home at 4.45 am and driven on the wrong side of the road all day - so don't think it will be long before the big flash bed jumps out and grabs me - all by myself !!!!!!!!

Andy

I am at Emerald on my way home after going to Currah Mine with a big truck body via Barcaldine from Augathella yesterday - yes it was work. But on my way home to Augathella via Springsure - but never get to Rockie.

I used to live and work at Clermont many years ago and we used to go into Rockie to shop. It didn't have much there in the early 80's. I also went as a student tot he Emerald Pastrol College 30 years ago - not much here then either - Blackwater was a brand new town and the town planners had just pegged Dysart and Middlemount out as well - how things have grown and changed.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I rate with Koh and Asy as I could speed read thru that missed spelled mumbo jumbo.

Good point on the weighing cycles Asy. I had read that somewhere else that we go in a 4 week cycle on weight loss and then inch or cm loss.

Hi Andy,

I wrote the following prior to "splitting" the non-relevant posts away from the "How often do you weigh" poll. One problem with forums like this, is that they can EASILY go right off-track, leaving later readers to sort through a bunch of stuff they don't want to read. So I "split" the extra's into this new place. I hope you don't mind...
Quote:
I think you (we?) might be taking this thread seriously off track - so I'm about to "split it" and create a place for it in the "Community Chat" forum. I'm sure others appreciate the varied input you provide (like I do), but it should be "in it's place" - with the kids and the knitting Don't worry, mate, you'll survive in there - just be strong.

I also want to see if I can navigate the uncharted waters of "split" too - so I have a vested interest in doing this....
OK - it's all done - Andy, if the poll gets one or two days behind, just say "bump" in a reply - the new post you make "bumps" the "when do I weigh" thread up to the top again.

After the "split", I've noticed some replies here have "a bit of each" - hmm, awkward, but not life-threatening, so I'll leave them as they are.
Meanwhile, Andy, enjoy "the kids and the knitting" section - I reckon this is the place for some of those great posts of yours (like this one). In fact, I think they may draw more people into this portion of the "newyou" board.

Hi Andy,

Hmm - not sure I could get 4 right. As I don't believe in Googling, just to make me look good, I'll just say I'm pretty sure I know the answer to Q10 (and it is NOT black).

Re the rest, I think that England might feature in two of the answers - the rest, I'd just be guessing - but, based on Q10, I reckon they will ALL have surprises. I'll be interested to hear others responses (hope THEY don't Google though), sounds like a bit of fun (you're good at that...)

Koh

PS Just reading them again, I think I know the answer to Q9 as well - what do you reckon, Asy? Could I possibly know that one?

Hi Andy,

Hmm - the "split" function was real easy to work out (I need that ) - I'm pleased you sound happy with the split.

Mate, I'm happy to let others have a go first. Down the track (if required) it will be interesting to read the answers. Meanwhile, over to everyone else,

Hi Pudge,

I think anyone can be forgiven for thinking that - but I'm guessing "wrong" is the right answer

I got right to the end one (the black box) before I was SURE that this was a bunch of trick questions. Because I've heard that the aircraft black boxes are actually bright orange (to make them easier to find after a crash).

The only other one I'm faiirly sure of is the "chinese gooseberry" one (today known as Kiwifruit). You probably have to be over 40 to have known of "chinese gooseberries" - I think the name changed in the 1970's ??
