Default softdrink

hi all was just wondering when we cook with softdrink does it have to be fresh so to speak or flat. a little diet lemon goes along way in this household as does lemonade as no one in this house drinks diet lemonade so i will have a bottle for a long time in that case. maybe debs or jenny andys wife might be best for this tuff brain tester hahahaha. jacin

Jacin, I don't think it really amtters. You are only adding a little sweetness which doesn't disappear when the bubbles do. I just use it whether it's flat or fresh.

Hi, I prefer to use Sprite Zero with bubbles for fluffing up omelettes - just a splash makes it really light and tasty (and it seems like so much more omelette too), whereas too much makes it too sweet for my taste.

Hows things - Jenny's use the soft drink when cooking - it is really a splash and she keeps it in the cupboard and I just looked and she has three opened bottles - all diet - coke, lemon and ginger ale, - we don't drink it at all so its just for cooking. In fact a dash with a teaspoon of mayo makes a great salad dressing and the lemon with stir fry prawns is nice as well. I have found that now I am adding a bit more salt to most things for two reasons (1) It stops the light headed feeling (2) It really stops the leg cramps that I was having earlier on - so with the diet soft drink the salt seems to balance it out well.

It looks a bit flat though.

Over Christmas at the sales we bought two little dish's with lids on them a red one and a white one - Maxwilliams - about $5 or $ 6 each - they are 250 mils and hold a Cohen's meal just right for the microwave or oven and they are dishwasher oven and freezer safe - the lid is handy for the micro wave to do breakfast in.
