Hi Jenny!

Nuts are possible in maintenance, although they are to be counted as your daily carbs allowance, and preferably eaten later in the day.

Hope that helps!

Slightly off topic, but I have been told in the past that craving nuts can be a sign of your body craving magnesium (much like chocolate cravings are too).

Nuts are pretty good, particularly the low carb types like Almonds, Brazil and Hazelnuts etc. I think cashew nuts have a bit more carbs, but still far far better standard snack fair: chips, choco, donuts , timtams, icecream.

I really went crazy with nuts after refeed they didnt make me feel bloated and I just really craved them.

I didn't know there were bones in Spanish boobs! Guess that's what keeps 'em firm! Sure you got the right mineral?

This is true and among these foods, Brazil nuts and almonds are two of the richest sources of calcium-yeah its the right mineral-but I don't think spanish boobs have bones- maybe calcium is good for mammary glands? Thanx for the mammeries!

Nuts are part of your max two serves of carbs on maintenance (so 2 x 50 gr), so I usually have them INSTEAD of rice/pasta with dinner, and the added advantage is that then you may even have desert, how good is that? Ideally, you have them with protein rather than on their own, so have some cheese with them.

I know that nuts are welcome in maintenance and certainly beat many of the processed, packaged snacks available but they are, from here on out, a NO GO ZONE for me. The problem is I can't stop at 30-40g - I end up eating half a huge bag!! They are way to more-ish for me and I have been experimenting with them lately only to discover I am not invinceable in maintenance haha. They have made my weight go up on several occassions and although I have had them within the maintenance guidelines, I find it near impossible to stop at a 'standard' serving. If you can stick to a handful you will be fine but its these kinds of foods that set alarm bells off in my head and make me want to eat more so definately something I wont be keeping in the house!

I hear ya hayley, i love nuts too, and it is hard for me to stop at 30-40 grams so I would rather not have them. I have not tried them since being on maintenance I am still to weak I think.

I agree that it is definitely difficult to stop eating nuts once you have started on them.

I can still remember my 3-weeks stay in Perth for work. I practically went through one big bag of macademia nuts (must be around 600g or 800g..unsure) within a couple of days. I bought them repeatedly from woolies. I was practically munching on them all day long in the hotel room while reading or watching TV. I think I gained 3kg to 5kg in that stay!

i agree with you hayley! nuts are very more-ish and i also find i retain a lot of fluid from them, i think my body doesnt agree with the high fat content in the nuts, im better with olive oil and avo for good fats..

if im just having 3 or 4 just as an afterthought if i want dessert, or if its slivered almonds and cut really finely over steamed veg like they do in some restaurants, im fine but anymore and i gain weight sooo easily!!

xx

but hazelnuts (in chocolate hehe), (chocolate covered) almonds and especially salted cashews areeee soo delishhh

Also, lots of salt in nuts so that may also cause water retention. Just a thought as I love those little suckers as well! I love Planter's Deluxe Mix (absolutely NO peanuts!).
