Default Carob

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you know much about carob? I bought some from my local health shop after reading a brochure they gave me about it. It stated how much better it is in comparison to chocolate etc. in that it has seventeen times less fat then chocolate, is sugar free, has no additives/preservatives and so on. It also stated it had a reasonable amount of protein and lots of vitamins and minerals yada, yada, yada. I was surprised at how good it sounded!

However, after eating some over the last couple of days I have felt AWFUL! My stomach swelled up so much I looked like I was with child! I have felt generally yuck/bloated/gassy and I have to admit, I have not reacted this way to any of the other foods I have eaten from when I started Cohen's and right up until now. In fact the reason I am even posting this is because I am surprised at just how badly my body has reacted. My weight was also up almost a kilo overnight which is a first for me.

I did read somewhere that it is high in carbs but am having a bit of trouble finding out for sure as there a few different types of carob. I do definately know the stuff I had was sugar free though and that the ingrediants were milk solids, lactose, vegetable oil, emulsifier & carob powder.

Anyone know much about the stuff? I'm a little surprised that I would react so badly to something that seemed pretty innocent.
