Question for the ladies
Mine stopped about 2 months ago (so 2 months from goal) and I'm just wondering when to "expect" it. Not trying to conceive or anything, but my gynae said if it stops for too long it could be the menopause. How long has it taken you (if you don't mind saying!)? |

Re: Question for the ladies
FYM - speak with your GP. As WellFit said above, everybody is different and our bodies react differently. Having no period may not having anything to do with Cohen's (then again it might) but your GP will be the person to advise what to do.
Let us know you're ok, okay??? |

Re: Question for the ladies
When I got my period back, it did caught me by surprise because after all, I had not have them for many months. I lost it around the 3rd month I was in Cohen.
A few days before my period reappeared, I was so cranky and tired. Those must be PMS signs but since I lost my period for quite a while, I did not recognize them. I thought my body was shutting down due to the tiredness and mood swings. Then suddenly, BOMB! IT CAME BACK!

Interesting! Hopefully it doesn't happen to me as I would think that losing your periods isn't a great thing....you know?? Hormones are not balance etc.

Re: Question for the ladies
my periods are now regular thanks to Cohen... I'm not used to getting my flow every month! But i'm grateful, at least I know my body is functioning somewhat properly. The heaviness of the flow varies though.

Re: Question for the ladies
Hey, my personal trainer no longer gets hers and says she was told it is a weight/fitness thing.
I think every body reacts in different ways. Wish mine had disappeared. That was one of the up sides of pregnancy! I get endometriosis so every one is horrid...... |

Re: Question for the ladies
Menses will cease in the event of famine ( e.g very low calorie diet)
this is a survival characteristic and not harmful - you should only be concerned if you were regular before and it doesn't come back after there are, of course other possible reasons for menses to cease and in all cases you should be having a discussion with your gp gyno ( as I am sure you all have one with whom you feel comfortable and able to contribute to an informed discussion) fitness in and off itself is unlikely to stop menses - in fact a fit and healthy woman should be experiencing full function ( again a discussion with medical practitioner is always a start to identify if there are underlying problems) ( I resisted responding for a week jlo )

Re: Question for the ladies
It came back about 6 weeks after I started maintenance (to answer my own question).
I was hugely relieved as my cholesterol had increased, which the doc said was a side effect. Must go and get it re-checked. |

Re: Question for the ladies
I always thought this was a sign of malnutrition. It sounds concerning to me.
Having said that, I'm in my first month of Cohen's and my period seemed to go on forever this time. For those who have not had a period - I presume you're not on the pill? Because doesn't the pill force you to have a period? |

Re: Question for the ladies
Oztish see my reply above - my personal trainer is definitely not malnourished, just lean and healthy!
Not all pills force you to have a period - if you skip the sugar pills you don't. Apparently models do this so they don't have a period. My gynae instructed me to do this also prior to my endometriosis treatment and if we had not been trying to conceive immediately after he was going to do the same to avoid it coming back as oestrogen feeds endometriosis... |

Ha! Last time I looked at this thread I was convinced my BMI of (then) 21 was the reason TOM had gone AWOL for 7 weeks!
My advice.... make sure you do a pregnancy test ff |

Re: Question for the ladies
Not having a period isn't necessarily a sign of "malnutrition," but it does suggest your body has come to the sensible conclusion that it only has enough energy input to deal with its own needs. Therefore, why should it put itself at risk of having to supply a second life? That's how I see it, anyway; it's a natural process.
The oral contraceptive doesn't actually force you to have a period -- actually, in a medical sense, it's not a period anyway. It's a withdrawal bleed brought about by the removal of the hormones that were suppressing ovulation. Which is why you can skip periods by skipping the sugar tablets, though it's not recommended to do that all the time because your body ought to have a break from the oestrogen (the progesterone isn't such an issue, which is why mini-pills have no sugar tablets). I'm praying that Cohens will kill my period for a while, because I hate it. However, while the first was unchanged, the second was considerably lighter than the usual bloodbath...although then I got cross because it went on for about ten days instead the usual six or seven. I just can't win.
