Default Help - Attending a Function (Wedding)

I have a family wedding to attend in a couple of weeks and I'm looking for any advice on how others may have managed the reception portion of the evening.

I'll be able to abstain from alcohol easily enough but how do I handle the dinner? Not only will the volume of food be an issue but the type and mix of food as well?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Can you find out what the menu is in advance? Then you can guesstimate the appropriate amounts. Or, take your own and eat it as subtlety as you can 😊 ...I said on a couple of social engagements that I was on a medical diet and people were accepting of that.

Hi
I recently went to my Partners retirement dinner and managed to stay DF.
I ate my plan meal 3 and fruit before going. Drank sparkling water for pre dinner drinks and refused all canapés. When we sat down I said no to bread. When the starter arrived I put the prawns on my partners plate and then didn't touch it. For the main, I just cut up the beef a bit then moved it and the veggies around with my knife and fork. Our CEO was sitting next to me. I just told him I wasn't feeling that great and didn't want to eat. This was preferable to me telling my big boss - my partner and I work at the same firm - that I was on a diet.
Then I said no to dessert and asked for a pot of camomile tea.
Felt really good and in control. Had a nice time talking to people but without the food and drink.
Then I drove people home. What a star!
All the best with the wedding.

Some great advice - thank you. I've been able to find out the meals and have changed my selection to the fish.

I'm going to pass on all canapés, bread and the starter and just have a portion of the fish and veg (leaving the rest) and also passing on desert. Drinking is no problem - I'll be sticking to softies as I'll be driving.
